I've always loved the New York Voices' soprano. Having been in many, many terrible vocal jazz groups myself, it's nice to hear a soprano who knows how to belt it when needed, and can swing like a gate!
I've been listening to this every morning for the past week. I heard this video a LLOOOONNNNGGG time ago when it first got posted, but this arrangement is SO brilliant. Absolutely New York Voices!!
Two people that clearly don't understand what's going on in this video hit dislike. 😂🤣😂🤣 this is an awesome impromptu jam! Great chord structure as always Darmon Meader is an outstanding arranger! Love this
Never mind the unappreciative simpletons and their dislike tap. Unaccomplished failures no doubt that project their self hatred through anonymous criticism.
Superb !. Have their recordings & love them but seeing & hearing this was an unexpected and great bonus. This provides a "master class" for aspiring vocalists. Thankyou for posting.
b5 and #11 are the same thing. I normally call it an 11th if it is above the seventh and a 5th if below the seventh, which it is in this case, but either is fine. I'm amazed at how creative this was harmonically with only three parts and a bass line.
Me Too, The lady in the dress complimented me on my singing and energy personally, and in about an hour I will be performing Bli-Blip with them at the George L. Hess Educational Complex in Mays Landing, NJ so if ypu live near there they sell tickets at the door, and just in case you see this later, today is 3/4/10
There is no such thing as "the" greatest. New York Voices are by many considered as "they took over where Manhattan Transfer left off" (as in: taking it to the next level). Also: don't forget the pioneers of the 40s and 50s, many fantastic harmony-vocal jazz groups and the groundbreaking "Singers Unlimited". "Take 6" (undeniably brilliant of course) name them as one of their inspirations.
Nice. Once upon a time, people would stand on the corner singing like that. You could walk by and pick that up off the ground. Now not so much, we've regressed.
ambition of vocal perfection = egotistic. vitrue of jazz perfection = heavenly. with jazz groups like these, the originally virtuous and true-to-heart jazz artists such as chick corea and return to forever, just seem to get covered in dust, nearly forgotten. down with this ego-centralized neo-jazz crap and these robots that follow and perform it for glory! and up with the real inspiring universal-message renaissance jazz that shares virtue with it's listeners! there's no fooling the soul..
Totally killing it on this tune.
This IS like being in love! I absolutely adore this arrangement! I am forever in awe of New York Voices. My All Time Favorites!

Elisha Jordan sent me over here to check out New York Voices and I gotta say that I am much impressed!!

Does anyone know who arranged this? Or where sheet music would be available?!
Sara Lee By now you probably already know, but the arranger is Darmon Meader (the one on the right) and it was published by Shawnee Press.
But of course!!!
i recorded it myself......
