While listening to this, I thought of myself.
What do I get angry about.
I don't really get angry at people.
So I switched anger for frustration and cold shoulder/Ignoring others for my own happiness.
So I was looking into my brain and heart for moments of my selfishness I guess.
    I realized, customers.
    Customers at my retail Job.
I ALWAYS have (on a good day) a neutral if not aggravated (bad day) to the point of almost daring a customer to over react so I can throw them out of the building.
And I thought about the customers.
There is one 70 or so year old fine lady, but she ALWAYS seems mad or aggressive towards me.
I almost think it is one of the triggers for me to go into MY state.
    I need to Agape her.
And I just realized this very moment that PROBABLY the reason she always seems angry at me, is because she sees the contempt in me.
So I will try tomorrow to form a conversation, I'm sure she has wonderful tales and wisdom to share.
    Thank you Tim Mackie.

The original word later appropriated got a particular theology (catholic/καθολικός katholikos) actually means- “universal” or “whole”…it’s the body of Christ….not a denomination. You will find those who understand His teachings inside and outside of the church…as the Gospels clearly show us you will find that those who recognize Him as Son of God FIRST will often be found outside of those who consider themselves to within the family of God (see first person to recognize Christ -: Son of God in Marks Gospel)..follow Jesus with all of your heart and I promise you that you’ll quickly come to understand who it is and who it is not who knows Christ - Prayers for happy seeking-God Bless

    Tim,
Of all the dozens of teachings of yours I’ve heard, this was hands down the BEST!
Of all the sermons I’ve heard on Corinthians 13, this was the most impactful, but down to earth, that I’ve heard. (even if you took us out into orbit for a bit 😉) .
I know you stopped preaching to be a prof, but please consider coming back, at least periodically. The world needs you, not just theology students in Portland! (Ok, there’s my black hole for the day!)
May God bless you & your family.

I dont have kids myself but love when Tim discusses the challenges of a father trying to raise miniature drunken cavemen. It reminds me of the beauty of a father's love. Thank you for all of it.

Ive been listening to this particular sermon on my Echo ( Alexa) through tune in. Was having trouble explaining tin my 14-year-old teen why I love her. She's suffering parent alienation and doesn't trust my love. And Tim's definition hit the nail on the head. Because loving teens at this age is tough people.

The title of this video led me to think Tim’s sermon was going to be along the lines of Austin Fischer’s book, Young, Restless, No Longer Reformed. The idea that God’s Love not being like a black hole is a central point in the book. Good sermon anyways.

I feel like Tim is on point with alot of what he says but one video I watched with him. He thought it was okay to watch the tv show breaking bad because it is a good character study. This alarms me but he is one of the best preachers ive ever heard.

    • @waterman308
      @waterman308 7 лет назад +18

Well, you could make that argument about a lot of classic literature, including the Bible. How many stories have adultery, even incest or murder and yet we place the Bible on a pedestal as a holy book. While it is, it is full of character studies of people with major flaws, and the results of their flaws. That is one thing the Bible does highlight - major character flaws never result in good things happening - apart from God's intervention. That said, if that show isn't your taste (and it is not mine), don't watch it. But his comment is valid.

DanIscool09 sure, not for entertainment of course. But he had plenty of exposure to the dark side of people hence his teaching on so many topics related to the wickedness in men's hearts. He talked about " this perverse generation" he knew it well. He didn't hide his mind from it because it was dirty like so many Christians do they pretend evil doesn't exist with a head in the spiritual sand mentality. I think that is what Tim was getting at.

The depreciation of the defining value over time by culture has twisted the true meaning of love.
The original definition Webster gave was to have such a devotion towards someone, some cause or something that one would be willing to die; devoted affection; parental care; devotion towards.
Now if you google love you are told it is an intense feeling towards something; great interest or pleasure in something.
The concept of self sacrifice & action is entirely removed.
This has now become a terminology defined as being wrapped up in being on the receiving end, what pleasure & feelings are given by an outside source.
As of today, that is what children, & adults are finding as the definition if they google love.
Dear God, please bless us all to keep our faithful books with true definitions, teachings & foundational principles, in Jesus name
