I was lucky enough to be on set for this film. It was fantastic! Definitely a great bunch of actors to be working with, and Ed and Viggo are such gentlemen

One of my favorite actors...I still think his portrayal of John Glenn in the Right Stuff was a thing of legend.

Tremendous film...I thank Mr. Harris for having the vision to make it...so much garbage coming out of Hollywood now, this one was a real gem and I count it as one of my favorite movies.

Wish he and Viggo had followed up with more of Virgil and Everett.
The chemistry between the two truly matched up well with the characters in Parker's great novel.

When I saw this movie...(as a guy in his late 50's who has been around since the 60's) I was supremely impressed that someone actually made a real western...not a 2000's version of a western but one like I enjoyed as a youngster...Great movie.

This and Unforgiven are my favourite westerns. Wonderful character depth, dialogue and performances, plus the world felt so real compared to most films of this ilk.

It’s actually a whole series, which is quite good (probably Parker’s best work after Spenser. But he started it late in life, and only wrote the first 3 books himself. The fourth was published posthumously, and since then it has been carried on. But as Ed Harris says in the clip, it’s a great read (and you can find out what happens to all the characters!)

"Many levels" is just how I would put it. I swear this is the first Western I've seen in a long time where I really did not know how it would end.
Complex, many-layered characters. Nobody is quite what they seem. A not-so-heroic heroine and a complicated villain. You really have to pay attention.

It is an amazing movie guys. Its better than the trailers. The message it sends is greater than the story the acting is amazing
    Viggo Mortensen was amazing.
Renee Zellwegger's acting was perfect for its role.

We all share the consensus that this movie turned out to be better than the previews, and better than the hype, in fact as someone said here, it really didn't even have any. I felt this movie was totally underated. I hope that like No Country For Old Men, and There Will Be Blood, the dvd sales are good. But then, unless it gets nominated for some kind of an award, probably not. But if anyone has not seen this, I highly recommend that you do.

I think Hitch surviving was even HARDER on him than if he and Bragg had killed each other. Hitch doesnt so much want to leave, as he has to acknowledge that the way things had been for a dozen years was no longer possible.
Hitch had to move on, and its HARD to leave your best friend behind.
    Forever.

Ed Harris is a great actor, and he looks Just like the real Erwin "The Desert Fox" Rommel. If you Google for Rommel images and you compare his picture boy he is a dead ringer for the General. He should do a movie I bet you it would be great .

Hey! I wasn't talking about Renee, I was talking about the CHARACTER.
I happen to like her a lot, and I don't know why so many people love to dump on her.
It's always starts with her looks and goes downhill from there. She's an unconventional beauty, she doesn't fit into any neat ethnic pigeonhole so they're always saying she doesn't look right. It gets real tiresome.

The movie could have been better if Hitch died simultaneously with Bragg. That way he would have sacrificed his life for his friend. In the other hand now Hitch sacrificed being with long time friend Virgil, part of which was because he did not want to live there anymore

That's because people like you are, with all due respect, immature for the cinema. You expect in a film for someone to die every two minutes, and a good explosion every five, otherwise you just fall asleep. I don't want to sound vituperative or opprobrious, and maybe you are not one of these, but people of today, usually don't appreciate the real cinema and indulge themselves in utterly dumb and neuron-killing movies like the Avengers or the Dark Night, and everything else seems to them boring. That's really sad.
