We went on Celebrity's Millenium last Sept, and it was our 2nd time to Alaska. We flew into Anchorage from Seattle, took a wonderful train ride down to Seward, spent 3 days there, taking some outstanding tours and boat rides while there, then hopped on the ship. Our ports were Juneau, (trip into Glacier Bay was cancelled due to bad weather), Ketchikan, Skagway, & Icy Straits, disembarking in Vancouver, Canada. Getting to see more of Alaska was high on our list, and I highly recommend the White Pass Train ride in Skagway. Learning more history about Alaska sparked a fire in me, and I immediately read James Michener's book, Alaska, when we got home. We're already talking about taking another trip there again and extending it so we can go inland even more into Alaska. So far Celebrity had been our favorite cruise line. Oh, and the restaurant, La Petite Chef, was AMAZING! It was so different than anything we've ever seen, and if anyone is unfamiliar with it, search on youtube for videos. Now I want to see their other shows.

I'm looking to do my first Alaska cruise in July, so I'm no expert. But I have heard if you're going early in the season (before July), avoid any ship going to Endicott Arm/Dawes Glacier. There's a good chance the ship won't make it because of icebergs.
If you do go that route, Celebrity Edge might get you closer because it's newer, has a super good navigational system and can maneuver very well. I heard one RUclipsr say on the day they went, several ships only made it 6 miles from the glacier. Celebrity Edge made it within 2 miles but couldn't proceed further.

We value luxury, peace, cleanliness and fewer crowds. We prefer large bedroom since we have a baby. Price is not an object, as we prioritize quality above all. We can depart from either Seattle or Vancouver, and we’d love an itinerary that includes Victoria, since my husband has never been.

Don't understand the pick of the Edge. It has no forward facing lounge. I cruised Alaska and that forward facing lounge was very well utilized. The Edge class are not great cold weather ships.

    • @Eatsleepcruise1

Although the Edge class ships lack a forward-facing lounge, the other features might appeal more to some guests. What is your pick for the best ship in Alaska?

@@Eatsleepcruise1 HAL ships. They have a pool area with a closeable roof along with the Crows Nest. Edge has the solarium pool but Solstice has that plus the Sky lounge.

@@benjaminsmith2287 I am looking into HAL too but for different reasons. They do reposition cruises from Yokohama, and often they're not only in great deal but also perfectly timed with Golden Week. Two birds in one stone.
The ships are usually Vista / Signature class only but guess I can't complain too much?

@@steinwaldmadchen If you want new and trendy, then HAL isn't it. HAL gives you a very HAL like ship. However, I can't say what another person will enjoy. I like HAL's new ships because they haven't fundamentally tried to change their product.
The timing and itinerary are important and it makes great sense to sail those ships. I hope you enjoy them and it's good to try different lines.

I’d say because they’re smaller so can get into spaces some of the larger ships can’t

Alaska is best in a ship that has good spaces for cold weather or rainy weather. That Celebrity ship isn't great for Alaska. A Solstice or Millennium class (older) is a better choice IMO.
