At 15 I bought an automatic 1.3 and drove it regularly to the court house, parked in their car park, received a telling off and many points on my licence - which I could never figure out but did have to wait until I was 21 before I could do my test - got back in the car and drove home. I did need the car for work so I've often wondered if the authorities were a bit lenient on me - very different times and yet only really yesterday...
I got one of these immediately after passing my test at 17. One day later i drove to work blasting techno and it was so loud i couldn't hear the engine screaming for help as i was doing 40 in second gear and exploded the diff!
@@Manualchoke silly me first day after i passed my test. took me a few weeks to get the hang properly, i learned the hard way haha, yeah i was on my lunch break and decided to go for a spin in the town the factory i worked in was located. I had to get my manager to tow my back to the factory, then my mams bf towed me 20 miles home. Could NOT find a new diff for love nor money.
Is there something wrong with your carb? Maybe it needs new seals and tuning. My Metro typically needs 2/3 clicks on the choke, starts first time, and then you can put it into one click and leave it there for the first mile or so until it's warmed up sufficiently to idle without. This of course depends on how cold the weather is, but I've never struggled with it as much as you seem to.
Thanks for the comment. Most carburetors were gone by early 90’s in the UK. Although there was still the odd car had then with manual chokes until about 1994. After this point everything new was fuel injected
@@Manualchoke Here in the U.S. fuel injection seems to have totally taken over by about 1998 or so. There were some hold outs, Jeeps and Grand Wagoneers. I worked at an airport hotel in the mid 90s and over the course of two or three years I got to see three different situations where Grand Wagoneers were hard to start, carburetors very dry and lots of worried cranking. I miss that, those moments walking through a parking lot and all of a sudden you get to witness a hard start.
@Mr.FloodedSilverado I used to work in a car park when I was about 18/19 where you paid as a booth when you were driving out. At the end of the day you would regularly get people arriving to pay and their car would conk out or they could be chugging hard while they got the money out. There was a couple who arrived to pay and the engine instantly went silent as they stopped.
@@Manualchoke Oh man, I bet you enjoyed that! I know I would have. Reminds me of a time I was at a gas station out in small town rural western Kansas. This old farmer type struck up a conversation with me about my truck. He just talked and talked. I got in my truck and he kept talking, so I sat there and pumped up and flooded my carburetor. I spent the next few minutes there with him everyone in a while cranking my starter trying to get my truck started. He just kept talking like nothing was wrong.
@@Manualchoke hi , just come across your channel, my girlfriend and I have a 1967 Morris minor, I love to watch her start it from cold in the morning, she fiddles about with the choke something chronic, usually takes her a few try’s to get it started , would love to chat about it sometime
If you have enjoyed my video. Please consider giving it a like, share or leave a comment below!
Great cranking and sputtering ! Keep on flooding it.
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad to enjoyed the video. Personally I prefer flooding the engine so it splutters and chugs.
hours of fun starting without the choke!!
There certainly is Baz , I’d do it everyday to our moggy but Wendy would never get to work 😂

Got to shake that gear stick for it to start
Lol. Thanks for the comment!
Great cold start! I'd like to see pedal pumping too
Thanks for the comment. I’m working on it for you.

Thanks for checking out my video. I can just imagine the engine was crying for the gear to be changed to 4th or 5th if you had the luxury!

Oh yes man !!! Mmmh
Thanks for the comment and support. It’s really appreciated!
How often would it flood at the intersections? Would it restart easy enough then
It has done a couple of times. Usually starts after a few attempts once the flood has been cleared!
I'm surprised they were still putting carburetors on these in 1992! Especially ones with manual chokes. Is this common in your area?

Than you
But do you succeed at the end ?
As I told in an other topic, you reminds me my Mom with her old Peugeot 205.
Yea it started in the end. I’m glad I remind you of yours mums 205. I would like to chat more about this if you want.
@@Manualchoke thank you I will send you an e-mail

Does it need any choke in from cold in hot weather?
Yeah it would some choke if it’s been sat over night even in summer but not much.
Next week. We get the suspension blown up!
Thanks for the comment. These metros had a very a unique suspension system. Always needing pumped up on every trip to the garage.
Can we see the exhaust please?
I’ll post a few more videos and there will be an exhaust clip for you I’m sure!
Pleas boots
