You know what I realized? All of the comments on Sleeping at Last songs are supportive, genuine, and kind. There are no swear words, hateful remarks, or harsh feelings. Everyone is at peace and wants to be gentle. I feel that this is strongly because of the type of music Sleeping at Last is. Heartfelt, calm, and sincere.

Kindness is not everything. Sometimes force is necesary to achieve something. Tho admittedly humanity is abusing it towards other people.

    I’ve met the moon.
He is kind, and he is gentle. He smiles softly and laughs so quietly that you can barely hear his joy. But if you listen closely, he is always speaking.
The first time he spoke to me was in kindergarten. When I was younger, my mom had always called him “Mr. Moon.” I think she got it from baby’s book when I was younger.
“Look, there’s Mr. Moon!” she would exclaim in the car, and I’d clap my tiny hands together in joy to see him riding his dark horse, Night, across the sky. I always knew Mr. Moon, but the first time he spoke to me was in kindergarten.
I was in the car, tears streaming down my face. The kids at kindergarten had been brutish: calling me names and poking fun at my skin. They are not kind and gentle like the moon, I remember thinking. They were sparks. Hot and dangerous.
Night had befallen the world as I sat in my car seat, staring out. My mom usually picked me up from daycare after the moon had risen in the sky. So on this night, as my small mind replayed every word the kids had taunted. And as I stared forlornly at the great circle in the sky, I heard him.
No, he did not come to life and start spouting words at me. It was a much deeper connection than that. Like music, but the kind you can only hear. Like the moment in which you’re awestruck by something, but no one else seems to find it fascinating, so you try to soak in the beauty. Suddenly, the moon was close to me, and I heard his thoughts. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but I will remind you that the moon is kind. The moon is gentle. The moon does not speak with grating words, but with its soul.
That was so long ago. And I am ashamed to say that I forgot about Mr. Moon. I grew up, as children tend to do. My body changed, and with it my mind. I forgot about lonely nights and weeping stars, distant lands and the people I once believed lived inside my TV set.
I became engrossed with worldly things. Boys, makeup, cars, life. Growing up, as much as I promised myself it wouldn’t happen, came. I was 17 now. I didn’t have time to slow down and talk to my old friend, Mr. Moon.
And so it was a special night in which I suddenly sat bolt upright in my bed, just as the clock struck 1:13am. And it so happened that the moon was positioned perfectly, and shone its beautiful silk words into my bedroom. Shafts of light scattered across my bed sheets as I tried and tell myself the nightmare hadn’t been real.
But it was real. That night, my mom had announced that we would be moving shortly. Being torn away from my friends, school, and social life at my age felt like a great blow to the stomach. I couldn’t move… not now. I was a junior in highschool, and had so much to do in that great city I called home.
And so the nightmare was real, and I felt that my world was about to be torn apart.
And so I stared emptily around my quiet room. But it was not quiet, because for the first time in years, I heard a familiar voice from the sky.
My own hands are silver under the moon’s light. Almost like he’s taking my hand and guiding me towards the windowsill. For some reason, the things in my room that marked my childhood seemed to stand out to me. The crappy drawing on the wall that my mom had insisted on keeping. My line of model horses on the shelves.
The moon hums through my head, and I get out of my bed, leaving the blankets trailing on the floor. I move across my carpet in bare feet, walking nearly silently. The windowsill is open, and through it peers the round face of the moon.
I sit at my chair, my body numb but my mind alive. The moon hangs there in the sky, looking down on me. Its beautiful voice fills my thoughts. I am alive inside.
On the desk, bathed in moonlight, is an old art kit I got six months ago at Christmas time. It’s open, the scraps of my last painting spread across the page. The most recent time I had used it was four months ago, until I realized that I had no talent when it came to art. Ever since, I had let it sit there, refusing to look at it for fear that I would feel guilty for not using it.
But now, I found my hands reaching for it. The moon’s voice reached a climax, echoing through my heart and bringing back a flood of memories of who I used to be. The long car rides, the tearful talks with the moon by my bed side.
I fumbled with the watercolors for a moment. I took a brush, and an old cup of water still sitting by my bed. I dipped it in, gathering grey paint on the bristles. Pulling a torn piece of paper from under a nearby book, I began to paint.
I started off cautiously at first: the paint brush barely skimming the page and the paint running over the crisp white paper in rivulets. But soon I painted with more vigor, going back for more paint. And more. A circle took place in the center of the paper: a grey sphere much like the one hanging in the sky. I dipped the brush in the white, accenting it. Then added black highlights, a bit of reflecting yellow.
The sphere grew larger and larger until it filled the whole page. Still the moon sang on. Images of my childhood, of what I used to believe in, flitted through my mind. I longed to paint it all, so I would never forget. But there is no way to capture feeling, belonging, and the joy of creation with watercolors. So I painted the moon, and I painted it broad and bold.
And as I pulled my hands away from my finished masterpiece, my fingers were stained gray. I looked down at them, moving in the moonlight on the desk. The greyness blended against my skin, and I smiled. I was the moon.

January 11th, I got the biggest surprise of my life, a positive pregnancy test! We were afraid, overflowing with joy, and again VERY surprised. As she grew within me, our little Luna Winter became my world..August 9th, she was diagnosed with Hydrops Fetalis and I contracted Mirror Syndrome. The one being I'd give my life for, who had become my little moon, was ending her time on Earth so soon. August 10th, during an emergency C-section where I almost passed away, my little girl slipped away from us without a sound. Luna, if you're out there, please never leave my side. Please stay my little moon, shine the light back in to me because where you were, I feel only silence and darkness. Empty. I miss you baby girl, your daddy and I love you forever and always.

Too far to touch, but close enough to see
What more could we ask of you?
A beacon of light looming in the night
Always there keeping us a safe
Every story needs a beginning, and a fitting end
Yours begins with collision and chaos
So much beauty born from destruction
A new beginning in the face of madness
You're a shadow in the night, a constant friend
Holding us together in times of doubt
Without a single spoken word you know what to say
Please dont ever leave, we need you to stay
Hold my gaze and welcome me
    Into your arms for infinity
Just you and me against the elements
We'll run so far and never be found
A heart so big for a body so small
Your love radiates across the seas
So lonely, so cold, but beautiful nonetheless
Tell us your secrets, show us your magic

I've always loved the moon. It's one of those things that has always been there. And even though everyone has their own concepts of beauty, as nothing is seen the same through any two people's eyes, I like to think everyone sees it the way I do. It cares for us too. It bends the Sun's rays to gives us light even in the dark. While society may turn a blind eye on some of us, the moon knows. It shines it's silver beams on us, telling us that we are never truly forgotten.

For the moon, shines out in the dark. We walk below it, in its light, often forgetting to look up and appreciate it, so lonely, surrounded by darkness, alone, beaming light down at those who need it, but not for himself. Everyone lost, every one loss, their whispers carry off to the moon, where empty wishes reside, where the lonely souls cry, where prayers not yet answered hide. Bearing secrets of its own, hiding faces never shown, keeping secrets all could know. The moon, cratered and fractured, still whole, its curved smile shining down on us, hidden by grey clouds, the opposite of the sun, not bold, not bright, but still, like water running through the sky in graceful notions, quenching thirst of those who long for light, each barren land blessed with single strands of moonlight, where hope is bereft, look up to the sky, where stars collect around the light whoms harmony heals souls that cry.

I know how to hum a tune, where others fail to stay in pitch, but my voice is not a singing voice
my mind is a constant buzz in which
I constantly follow songs, pitch to pitch
to sing out loud is all I have ever wanted
I burst into tears in the throes of passion and desire
Listening as voices set my heart on fire
My bitter voice cries in utter agony
For I know destiny hasn't chosen me
If I had one wish for anything in the world
One chance to eliminate all of my fears
I would climb my way atop the highest mountain
And sing, and sing, and sing, through the tears
I don't want fame or money or knowledge
I just want to be able to express my pain
In the most beautiful melody, right from the heart
Like the elixir of life taking you back to the start.
I am the outcast, the lonely lost soul
I wake up every morning, left in the cold
But I have begun to discover and understand
Music surpasses everything when there is a story to be told
One simple note from the sweetest harp
Or a simple piano melody, ever so sharp
Can excel far beyond the capacity of words
To tell the sweetest story you've ever heard
So as I lie here, lonely and rejected
I can listen to this masterpiece, my hope resurrected
And paint a masterpiece so vast and majestic
That no amount of beautiful words could best it.

Does anyone else feel that stars are tiny little orbs in an endless concave of darkness. It's like every Star is a Sun and every Sun is a Star just waiting to happen. Imploding with cataclysmic forces to do so. Lighting up the world, even at the worst and darkest of times. To me every birth of a Star is our dreams. To me they are also a lone call for hope, help, love and prosperity. A look through time and age. Past, present and future. When one dies, another piece of hope is reborn among the stars. Igniting the small fragment of our inner beings, our souls, reaching all the way down to the unbroken pieces, telling us their still there, awaiting there moment to spark.
Some say the void is our moment to die. You know when we "Enter the Void" Others say that in that small insignificant moment, such as a pebble breaking the surface of a endless ocean. That it could change time, for good, for bad. Even for the restoration and faith in a losing humanity. We can never know.

That is really beautiful. I often think how privileged and lucky I am to see these tiny, infinite dots twinkling through vast distances from such a dark and lonely place and how one day we won't be able to see them anymore when the space expands. I think it is beautiful to even exist in the universe, we are an exception in a world that never should've been.

God I miss her so much...but I know that letting go was the best thing I could do. His music helps me remember the absolutely amazing moments we shared but it also helps me remember why i had to move on from something that was beginning to become toxic. I loved her and everything that she stood for and she loved me just as much but neither of us were happy at a point in time. This is totally random but its making me feel better so fuck it yolo.Sleeping at last was a big part of our relationship and the songs never fail at making me miss her but they also help me remember that this is for the best.

The boy on the moon never felt lonely, not once. Not with all the children that stared up at him with large, hope filled saucer eyes. Not with all the wishes that laid elegantly across his ears in lullaby whispers. Simply put: it was magic. Their hopes - the thing with feathers. He always felt that poem didn't get it right. It wasn't a bird. It wasn't locked in some cage, it couldn't soar below the clouds. It couldn't easily be shot down. No, hope was never a bird, it was so much more. It was star dust. It invaded the air, it floated above the clouds. It pumped through tiny veins and kept hearts beating. It kept him from being lonely. Because it was star dust that stared up at him each night. It was hope. It was children who believed him to be following their car. It was adults who needed a friend. It was dogs and wolves and free spirits that needed to know someone else was out there. It was life. In all the dark hatred that shrouded the earth he looked down on, he could always see a shimmer of star dust. So no, the boy on the moon never felt lonely. For he was never alone. Not with so much light looking back at him. So much hope. So much life...and love.

@anyone who wonders so much why this single man band can make you question so much about life and how lucky we are to be living - this man, though not overly eager to use "Christian buzz words" like mercy and grace is in fact Christian. He instead uses words like forgiveness, humility and hope and weaves those messages into deep spiritual messages that really make you wonder. This band became a quick favorite, and the meanings behind the song are so personal to him yet so relatable to us, because he knows what we all tend to think and wonder about life and has the common sense to write about it and the musical talent to play to about it.

I can’t sleep. I want to rest but I cannot even silence my mind. After a long time of being brave, of trying to shake off this feeling of sadness, now it’s here again, like a childhood friend. Though somehow, it’s familiarity’s is quite comforting. Sleeping at Last never fails to keep me hoping, that maybe some other day I’ll be fine again, that maybe some other time I’ll finally be found, not by anyone but be found by myself. Everything hurts right now but with Ryan’s voice, I am hopefully hurting. That this pain will one day make some kind of profound sense.
