    Jumping back into this for Halloween season, after a couple of years of not playing. (DOW:TLN) Re-reading the rules, you don't lose automatically if Morale drops to zero. "When the game ends for any reason, if a player has completed his secret objective he wins." If not, they lose. "The game can end in a variety of ways:" "...morale track reaches 0...", "...round track reaches 0...", or "The main objective is completed."

      You just said you lose if the morale track reaches zero 🤷‍♂️

      @@BoardGameBollocks My bad! I read it as the end game triggers when either track reaches zero, or the Main objective has been met. Then, if you've met your secret objective you win!

    I played this game prior to my full immersion into the hobby. I had no idea a game could do what this game did. Playing this game was one of the seminal steps towards my embracing board gaming as a hobby. I played it again a month or so ago, it for me, it does hold up.

      Yea it’s pretty good... have you tried the expansions? Warring colonies is great if you can get enough players.

    Thank you for wnother great review, although I will appreciate if you'll clarify this one for me:
    As a triple box game I understand that the system will shine..
    But how about Dead of Winter the base game only..?
    Do you still recommed it for its own?

    Just curious, on your thoughts on Waring Colonies. I don't see many reviews or thoughts from anyone with this game.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  4 года назад +5

      I don’t think many people have played it as it only really works with large player counts. Plus the fact you need the 2 core sets and there’s loads of bloat puts people off.
      Personally I think it works really well. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t play the same as DoW and has some rules stripped out so in effect this makes it a different game, which is both welcome and unwelcome.
      Bottom line is if you can muster 11 players and love DoW then this is a no brained.

      @@BoardGameBollocks thank you for the super quick reply. I love Dead of Winter and I actually bought both sets with the intention to buy Warring Colonies but after I didn't see much buzz about it- I became less interested. Thank you again and stay safe and take care

    The only thing I kind of wish that would be different in Dead of Winter is that the exposure die should have been a D20 instead of a D12. That way, the bite would be rarer and more tolerable. Still, it's one of the things that you either love or hate about this game. I think the thematic fit of the die really overcomes the obvious downside of poor luck.

      Agree with this. Seems a bit unfair but then again who said the apocalypse was accomodating?

    Me and my son play this 1v1 Warring Colonies with everything (variant supported) included. He beats me every time with his clever card play. I also play this solo hardcore with the base plus TLN plus WC using all five player sheets. Crazy, no?

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  5 лет назад +4

      10 Player game with 2 players? That’s more hardcore than Arkham Horror with complete boost.

      @@BoardGameBollocks He didn't say they play 5v5 but 1v1. On the other hand I don't know why you say about gathering 10 or 11 pple to play warring colonies, when people indeed prefer to play it with less player count. You can play 2v2 or 3v3, even with an odd number of players.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  4 года назад +3

      I didn’t say 5v5 either. I said he emulates a 10 player game with 2 players. I’ve only ever played it with 10 so I dunno about playing it with less...what’s your point mate?

    • @noralthair

      @@BoardGameBollocks I just wanted to point out that it's not a 10 players game, officialy it's a game for 4 to 11 players, and saying otherwise both in the video and in your comments will confuse people. That could make someone not buying the game just because of that. In BGG there are no many votes, but people seem to prefer it with 5 -7 players, and if you look for online videos, there are videos where they play 2v2 nicely. In the end it's not about using both colonies at full potential, I've read a review from someone who said getting close to the limit it's a big problem. Too many players. Even though they created that hourglass mechanic in order to mitigate that, they preferred to play with less players.
      I hope it doesn't sound aggresive nor anything like that. You're doing a good job for the community reviewing games and expansions, I'm just trying to correct and shed some light regarding the ideal/necessary number of players for the expansion, as almost 2.5K people is watching this.

    Hey, mate! My partner and I are just getting into the hobby and going deep down the rabbit hole. There's a lot of content on RUclips, plenty of it is solid, plenty of it is maybe not so solid. This content is SOLID! I was thinking to myself "where's this bloke been?" Keep it up mate, all the best in the future. Any suggestions for horror co-op outside the normal big ones (arkham horror, eldritch, horrified, mansions of madness, mysterium, haunted hill etc?)

      You don’t want to know where I’ve been mate….can’t wash it off no matter how hard I scrub.
      Try Ghost Stories or Kingdom Death (if you have a spare £300)
      I’ve done a top 10 games for Halloween so maybe search my channel for that.

      @@BoardGameBollocks i think it might be late already. In the last year DoW disappeared from the 1st page on BGG. In addition it looks like the new crossroads space game from them failed. A perfect moment for them was about a year ago. But DoW remains still one of my top favorites board games. I hope they still have this idea in on a todo list.
