I STILL get the tingles seeing/hearing this game 31 years (!) later! "Don't get wing damage" is what Falco says in my head every time he talks. They don't make em like this anymore, kids!
Did this in 25 minutes in middle school. Said I was the best in the world. LOL. Anyone else make up phrases for the gibberish Peppy, Slippy, and Falco say?
In terms of speed running, the out of this dimension route is a different category. The other problem with that route in terms of speed running is that it's very heavily dependent on luck with the slot machine at the end.
Nah that's two different things. The slot machine ending is Out Of This Dimension where there's no way out. The Black Hole can be escaped and it spits you out at different places, including Venom
There's a comment thread down below where someone asked the same question. If your game is a European game then apparently Star Fox is actually something totally different and this game was called Star Wing over there. There's also star fox 2 and star fox 64 which could be what you're talking about. Hard to know without a video or screen shot
Maaan this game was so bloody mesmerizing visually to ki as a child, the "warning, warning! incoming enemy fighters!" at the beginning barely even registered and even when it did it sounded like a totally alien language! ROFL!!! XD XD XD Like Falco and the boys! BAAWWWWHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Yes lol. Little by little. My sum of best is under 13 currently. I've been doing comparisons to see if the game runs faster on Switch vs the original SNES. I discovered a couple of small time saves as well, but it's hard to put them all together in a single run
There’s a few different places you can go! I actually learned about the black hole from a promo thing in a box of Apple Jacks back in the day, haha. It showed how to hit the asteroids and make the warp appear. And then mentioned taking the third ring to go straight to venom.
@@harvtronix do you think it's a nostalgia thing from being a kid? Or were the newer games just some how inferior in presentation? Because they were no doubt better from a technological standpoint, as well as content aspect. BTW, did you ever play Starfox 2?
You're definitely onto something with nostalgia being part of it; it's one of the first games I ever played and it didn't disappoint, so of course it's gonna leave a lasting impression on my soul! But on the other hand, it's far from a perfect game (case and point: it's super laggy, and lag optimization is kinda-sorta the main reason speed runs for it even exist 🤣). I also LOVE the sound design for it. The hard hitting orchestral music and the bass heavy sound effects make it so much more immersive than anything else I've played in the series. SF64's goofy dialog was WAY too loud and distracted from the experience of "Dude, I'm a fighter pilot in a state-of-the-art arwing saving the galaxy!" I did indeed play SF2! I played it for the first time a few years back on the SNES Classic. I got a credit roll after my first 20 minutes without taking a single point of damage. Talk about a let down 🫠. I was so confused because IMO SF1 is a REALLY tough game, and SF2 was not at all what I would have expected as a follow-up. I'm curious of your thoughts on SF2 if you've played it!
@@harvtronix Exactly. That's why I mentioned the part about the sequels having a technological advantage. The music? Chefs kiss. I don't know who sequenced those drums, but they did one hell if a job. I... kind if played Starfox 2, if you want to call it that. I played the unfinished rom on an emulator many moons ago. So I wouldn't say I got to experience the game as intended. I stopped buying Nintendo hardware after the GameCube. It no longer appealed to me. With all the gimmicky controllers and what not. When I did get the GC, it was solely for Smash. So I'm no longer buying Nintendo hardware for a handful of games. I love the Zelda series. So I've had to miss out because of that.

Same!
Same
Its so neat to see speedruns of these kinds of games!
loved this game and stunt race fx so much, brings back the memories :-)
This was awesome to watch. Thank you for this.
I remember the 1st time I beat andross
Falco: "Do do do damnit!"
Wo wo wing devon
Jim jimmit jim jimmit
Wo wo wing damage
At least thats what I've always heard for many years.
@KRS2000 That's what I hear too.
What a game. Amazing music and sound effects
my fastest time was 28 mins when i was about 12. but i was doing fancy barrel rolls as much as i could :D
Man does this bring back memories!!!!!! ;) Cool stuff, i don't ever remember passing this game in less than 15 mins.
The commute to work on venom must be a bitch.
Your time is still impressive. Congratulations on a job well done.
Roger. I’m heading back to Corneria.
Wow - if you got a one-cycle Andross, this would've been sub-13. Insane run!
Haha thanks!! Is one-cycle Andross doable? If so please tell me how! :)
I wish this game was ran more but I kinda see why it isn't cause it's an auto scroller
MY record was 16:02
No clue how this was a SNES game, they seriously milked every bit of the power it had with this game. Unbelievable.

bleb bleb, bleb bleb
808, you lamebrain!
blu blu blu bleh bleh
Couldn't you have just went to the out of this dimension because its basically the final level
In terms of speed running, the out of this dimension route is a different category. The other problem with that route in terms of speed running is that it's very heavily dependent on luck with the slot machine at the end.
Harvtronix IKR sometimes it will take me over an hour to beat the boss
HAD NO IDEA THERE WAS A WAY OUT OF THE BLACK HOLE OTHER THAN THE SLOT MACHINE ENDING!! ALL THESE YEARS!!
Nah that's two different things. The slot machine ending is Out Of This Dimension where there's no way out.

@@rodracer4567 black hole IS out of this dimension... what's the difference?
@@yourbrokenoven You can escape the Black Hole and it's a warp zone
You can't escape Out Of This Dimension
why does your star fox look different from my star fox??

Wow, thank god those other 3 idiots came along for the ride. Whatever would Fox have done without them?
nice timing on the nova bomb in the first phantron battle, screwing that up would lead to you losing a life
Thanks!! That's definitely a "run resetter" if I mess it up. I think there's an even faster way I can do it, but I need to do some more testing.
The first stage BGM sounds a lot like Super Punch Out🤔🤔🤔
Richieray04 I was thinking the same thing. I came here to listen to it after playing super punch out to see if it was the same or not
Gemini Crickets that game was HARD

the memories. I remember beating this game countless times. The slot machine was a fun boss
The canon route, according to the comics
Anybody trying to be the first to achive 13:00 yet

@@harvtronix I was thinking of how you could potentially beat this run by around a second. It will rock once you can get a sub-13min run altogether.
I never knew you could travel directly to venom through the black hole!! I thought it was meant to take you to sector y!

Genesis Does. Genesis Does. What Ninten... oh wait... erm, never mind.
no it wasnt. now is peak gaming.
Super FX does what nintendcouldn'twithoutit

None of the newer Starfox games captured the magic of the first game IMO.
So true
