It didn't dawn on me till FULLY EDITING THIS VIDEO that I made ALL THE BOOKS BACKWARDS 😭 why can't I ever get it right?!?! IM A MESS lol
Idk I kind of love that they're backwards. Your mini books are just incredibly ✨️unique✨️compared to everyone else's!
I don't know how you didn't notice :D but it adds character (and won't be noticeable later when the jar is full)
@@butzichen I blame having a scattered brain lol
Just consider it practice for making mini manga volumes 😂 giving me ideas
Just pretend they're written in Arabic lol
They are not backwards, they are the manga versions.
HAHAHA I’ll run with this!!
Cozy-ish fantasy I really enjoyed lately is Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross. I haven’t read River Enchanted yet but the overall vibe/style seems similar to Divine Rivals
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett was also pretty fun. It keeps faeries closer to their folklore roots where they are creepy and mischievous.
I always skim the acknowledgments because I am NOSY and I want to mine them for info about the author’s life and connections haha. Who is your bestie? Which child is your favourite? Why didn’t you thank your mom? 😂
My favourite dedication is “this one was for me”
JESSE !!! i have been watching you for 10 years now, but you have been killing it recently !! genuinely feel like you’re making fresh content and it’s all so artsy without being artsy 🤣🤣 literally love the effort you put into editing !! keep doing you good sir !!
also!!! what you said about not wanting a heavy war in your fantasy, i felt that!! but, ik you read the poppy war. do you think it’s still good even despite the heavy war?? i’ve had it for like 3 years and haven’t gotten to it 😅
The Art Thief by Michael Finkel is the absolute best audiobook I could ever recommend you. Its a nonfiction about a couple (mostly the young man but the couple generally) that stole hundreds of pieces from museums across Europe in the mid 90's to early 2000's. You learn so much about this man, his girlfriend, his whole family as well as how museums handle theft and the changes of museums after cases like this along with so so much more. It's also told like a mystery story that's unraveling. The narration feels like you are having a long intimate conversation with someone who's telling you this winding fantastical but entirely true story you just can't believe. Its hand down the best book experience I've ever had.
This video was so relaxing to watch 😍 I'm just saying... I wouldn't be mad if this turned into a monthly tradition..
braiding sweet grass for non-fiction. get the audiobook her voice is like a lullaby. it's about native American culture and botany. amazing
I would love to recommend Daisy Jones and the Six - I loved it! But that's me, I love reading about the start of Rock & Roll. (the audio had a full cast, and I love that too)
That book is truly amazing! I am so annoying about it haha. And the audiobook is phenomenal!
My brain just assumed the video was mirrored, despite the words on the books being fine 🤣
I absolutely love this idea and I can't wait to see your reading jar fill up with all the mini books!
😂 it’s adorable that you made the books backwards. It adds character, okay?! I need to read A River Enchanted, like yesterday. I’ve read Divine Rivals and I LOVED it. The writing was just beautiful. So no doubt, I gotta read A River Enchanted, I think.
Love this idea. I recommend a paper Trimmer/Cutter if you hate cutting! Makes it so much easier.
11:17 The dedications from the ASOUE series are my absolute faves. "Beatrice - Darling, dearest, dead" lives rent-free in my head 🥺
This is such a nice idea! I once made miniature vinyls with lil cds inside, I should try to make books too!
These miniatures are the cutest things ever.
I loved this video! This is why I always end up coming back to your channel, you are so creative, and your videos are so different and chaotic in the best way possible! I think I´ll get myself another Jesse binge! 😊
My favorite dedication is in Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronovitch.
"This book is dedicated to Sir Terry Pratchett OBE
who has stood like a wossname upon the
rocky shores of our imaginations - the better
to guide us safely into harbour."
I grew up reading Terry Pratchett, and his death hit me hard. When I discovered Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London books, it was like that hole Pratchett's death has left inside me was being filled up again. I knew he was a Pratchett fan (there are references to his, and many other fantasy authors, works throughout all the books), but when I got Foxglove Summer and read that dedication, I'm not ashamed to say I cried a little bit. To this day, reading it gets me emotional. Seeing an author I love pay tribute to an author who was so important to me growing up is a beautiful thing.
Ive been making miniature books since last year and this isnt really a tip but more of a suggestion, you can add clear tape to the covers of books to make them shinier and so the image pops out more! I do that for ceetain miniatures where the irl book has a shiny/glossy hardcover
I really love this video format, I hope you keep doing them🥰
8:26 I think Aiden Thomas is planning a sequel for Cemetery Boys! He said so on his Instagram!
Oooo that’s so exciting
Yes! It’s going to be in Julian’s POV
@@zahra-mg6vpoooh ok that makes me interested! I wasn't going to read on but I love dual pov so having his now will be so nice
If you want to pawn off any of your bookish things, let me know!!🥺
I hope you continue this series!!! I absolutely loved this video. As a crafty person and a book lover this speaks to multiple parts of my soul ♥️♥️♥️
Get yourself a paper cutter! You will be able to make all the perfectly strait cuts simply. They don't cost much at all, and will make your crafting easier, so you'll be more likely to continue.
Non-fiction recs:
Tiny beautiful things by Cheryl Strayed, I haven't read it fully but the concept is Q&A in an advice column 'Dear Sugar', she has such an beatiful way of answering people with such compassion but still cutting the bullshit on the advices. There is definetly trigger warnings with this one!
84, charing cross road by Helene Hanff, letters the author (NY) exchanged with a bookseller (UK)! I have a copy with The dutchess of Bloomsbury Street that is the authors travel journal in London.
Honestly the backwards books are a slay and this is so fun I might steal your idea
I'm so excited for you to dive into a horror genre ❤ I expect some amazing book recommendations from you
Loved the video 😍 now I have to try to make miniature books too !!
I love your little book jar, I WANT one!!
Always love when you post :D
Ok but this video idea slaps I might steal it that’s such a cool concept
MINIATURE BOOKS OMG SO CUTEEEE
Loved the style of this video!
I made mini books this year. I found like double sided sticky foam was my favorite way to do it.
"Things I Learned from Falling" is one of my favourite non-fiction books, definitely recommend!
Omgg I have book darts!! It’s nice they’re reusable too
One book that is nonfiction (more like memoir) is called In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park. She escaped North Korea and she wrote about her journey to make it to the US.
I had the same euphoric feeling while ready a river enchanted!
idc that they're backwards, i love them. 😭😭
Currently reading Divine Rivals by her and I really like it so far! Haven’t read her other work yet. You should see me cutting paper for presents lol. 😂
now I wanna do the same thing, I love the idea!
I have an amazing book recommendation that is a great horror book and it is also a classic. You should read Dracula.
I read the Radium Girls by Kate Moore last year and it was amazing! I'm currently reading Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. I saw the movie and it was amazing and I needed to know more so now I'm reading the book.
This is such a lovely concept! I want to do paper craft too.
Looks like a fun project. I'm a big crafter. I made one of those bookish room models you can find on Amazon.📚☕❄️
Ps you should also read vampire hearts and other dead things. It’s a romance/ mystery and it is one of my top favorite books that took me from surprise, and also check out Long live the Pumpkin Queen.
Aiden Thomas actually announced a sequel to Cemetery Boys! There isn't a lot of information yet, but it is supposed to come out this year!
When Breath Becomes Air is a really good nonfiction memoir!
I have wanted to do some miniature books for a while, but it seemed like too much work. I did find a version where you use foamboard for the pages (you can't open the books, but you only have to put the cover on that) seemed like way less work (but also haven't tried it yet)
I don’t think it’ll be for a while yet, but cemetery boys is getting a sequel!
Hi Jesse, I am also someone who wants to get into reading more non-fiction. One non-fiction that I really liked and still think about is Stuart: A Life Backwards by Alexander Masters. It's a little dark and a little sad, but really interesting :)
If you find yourself keeping up with this project, it might be worth looking into those paper cutters with a built in ruler and blade. (I'm sure there's an actual name for them.) It's so easy to get straight lines on them.
Jesse, if you're looking for books with horror elements I highly recommend Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. It's got a decent amount of body and disease horror and has lots of interesting themes that include religeous trauma
I feel like if you folded the "pages" like an accordion it would be a lot easier to put them together rather than cutting out every page? I mean it wouldn't open like an actual book but I think it would still give the page illusion.
CEMETERY BOYS IS GETTING A SEQUEL!!
I need to do this
Now u need a mini me to sit on the shelf to read a long with you😊
I don’t like the fact that the thought to do this with manga crossed my mind. That would be soooooooo many. Maybe my light novels
For non fiction I recommend “All About Love” by Bell Hooks, very eye opening 👁️👁️
Anything by bell hooks or Audre Lorde. So much life-changing wisdom
the lords of discipline is SO good. highly recommend.
If you like horror/ thriller read Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Caesar. It was great! 10/10 recommend.
Cemetery Boys is the first good trans representation in media I ever saw, and I'm so happy that Jesse liked it too!
Cemetery boys will get a sequel
Do you have a PO box or Amazon wishlist? I want to buy you a paper cutter. I think it will make this project more enjoyable. I mean don't get me wrong, I still mess up using the paper cutter, but it does seem to help a little. If I can figure out your PO box, I'll send you one.
I don’t have one anymore, but that’s a good idea. Don’t worry about sending one to me! I’ll look into getting one. 🖤
Horror recommendation: A God in the Shed by J.F. Dubeau!
Id just sell the 1* books or trade them
Making them backwards and not noticing. Sounds like something I'd do.
Don’t try to cut straight lines with scissors. Get a paper trimmer. It will be so much easier and turn out so much better.
What is the spice level in A River Enchanted?
About the soft fantasy i would recomend SIX CRIMSON CRANES by Elizabeth lin
O read it o love it
Kiss 🇵🇹🇵🇹
No one can cut straight. That's what paper cutters are for
A fortunate life by A.B Facy is an awesome non fiction from someone not famous 😊😊😊
Backwards smackwards
Oh, we need to get you a proper paper cutter of some sort. It will change your life.
Also, yes A River Enchanted is so good!!! I would argue that it's not romantasy 😭😭😭 romance is the A Plot if it's romantasy. It's just a straight up fantasy with a couple little romance B Plots.
