As a Samoan born in New Zealand I think this is beautiful would love to visit Matakana don’t care about tourist attractions or hotels anyway I’d just wanna meet the locals and chill with people and most of all make friends
Kia Ora! This is an amazing video! A lot of great initiatives, a lot of knowledge, I am from Mexico and I can said that we need to learn more about the relationship between local communities and nature. You guys are doing an amazing work! I want to understand Māori language. “The price of freedom it’s eternal vigilance” about Moana.
wicked days.. used to cruise out and stay at my friend Kitt"s cabin on Rangiwaea Island.. early eighties, absolute paradise.. fishing was the best.. thanks Kitt & Toria.
Used to holiday on Matakana with my Aunty and Uncle. They would come over to the mainland with a barge. Uncle Dave grew the meanest watermelons on the island..Great memories! Then they moved to Motuhoa!!
Awesome to see all this especially when Tauranga is right on its doorstep. 160k People right there, tripled in Population since the 90s but Matakanas still the same.
I may be pakeha but I love what you's are doing there, I also dislike how the land has being ill-treated, I am so over the 'health' system & their poison pills, looking to natural medicine and would rather live off the land also.
I remember we went here as a whole school back in the 80s. pakipaki bilingual school. We stayed at the marae on the hill and our parents and teachers went out for a few somewhere anywho was a good time really. Then we performed in Auckland
Interesting point of view most people have a say over land legally theirs and Matakana appears to be mainly covered in Pine trees not natives. There is a obvious potential problem that could destroy the beaches and sea areas from the pine slash from their harvesting or destruction to due natural damage just like other maori areas. I see 100 acres is for sale are only maori allowed to buy? As it is ''maori land'' that's what happened all around New Zealand the maori wanted the money pakeha didn't steal everything. Will a pakeha luxury resort be built? Could provide jobs? But a wharf would probably be built and water activities happen and kai moana caught. our NZ is changing everywhere by love of $$$$ money.
Keep the island for the islanders hope it doesn't change keep fighting never give up
