- From WDVM Washington, here's a series of high energy news promos with the tag line "The One to Watch". What's cool about these is that there really isn't any moving video, they're just animated stills. The blue streak is meant to convey unstoppable momentum and constant improvement.
I worked with Jim Collier of Collier concepts to produce this campaign. All film animation and custom music for these. It was the launch of the One To Watch. John Chase was the promotion manager at the time. Not long after, Hank Price joined us as Creative Services Mgr and we developed a return to The One And Only Channel 9. Those were the days!
Interesting. These were rostrum effects, right? And how did you make the light effects and the moving parts? Plus were there other clients that used this campaign? And what happened to Collier Concepts?
According to the SouthernMedia News Music Archive, this music is actually _The Team to Watch_ by VTS Productions. I heard some opens with this music there and thought it sounded familiar.
Ian Sherman VTS Productions adapted this theme for syndication. I believe that someone (eyeontv himself?) saw reels of this original music and said they credited Frank Becker Music, who must have done it for Collier.
One of the best campaigns ever, especially the first promo that details WDVM (now WUSA)'s rise to the top of the ratings. The musit hits, everything hit. This was TRULY the 80s at its finest.
I absolutely LOVE these!!! Anytime you upload anything from DC, I watch immediately. Thanks so much for these.
The one and only TV-9!
Bruce Johnson the only one left at Channel 9W*USA
And he passed away after he retired
It always bummed me out when I was little that channel 9 only showed The Price is Right every morning on daytime.
WDVM (WUSA) is an CBS affiliate owned by Tegna.
News Team ! Assemble!!
Britian's SKY News made very similar promo's in the early 90's.
WALB in Albany, GA also used that theme music
The same type promo KNXT (KCBS) Los Angeles used
How many of the original team are still with the station?
Katheryne Koelker 1
720p60 and 1080p60 only HD for WDVM-TV "The One to Watch" promo 1983 with eyeontv.
They should have called this station WVDM or WMVD and gave advice on how to avoid getting VD at the end of every newscast, they could have called themselves the VD station. This would have been very helpful about this time due to the AIDS epidemic, AIDS was so prevalent in America in the early 1980's that if you messed around you ended up with it.
Hey eyeontv, would you please upload the Nickelodeon Silver Ball campaign vids? Becasue this year is Nickelodeon's 40th birthday!
