My parents were scheduled to fly from London to Washington DC in 1994. My dad called up United while they were in London to change flights. The agent told him that the flight he was scheduled on was the inaugural b777 flight. United was the launch customer of the 777. They must have switched planes because my dad didn't know it when he made the initial reservation. He still switched flights so he didn't get to make the first 777 flight.

Man, this was a trip down memory lane for me. Thanksgiving week 2009, I took UA from Dubai to IAD on a 772. Back then, business class looked a lot like what premium econ is now. 2-3-2 seating, but the seats were wider, no IFE screens, but wider tables in the armrests. There were electrical outlets, but the FA had to give you a converter to use. I watched an entire season of a tv show (some HBO offering) on an iPod classic (the one with the click wheel) during that flight. The food was only marginally better that what you guys got. I'm glad this flight is back primarily for a more reasonably priced business class ticket for a non-stop flight to the states at a noticeably lower price point than what Emirates or Etihad can offer. Definitely need to sign up for Milage Plus since I'll be flying UA several times in the fall on this route and the Island Hopper from HNL to GUM.
Great story to hear! I agree, the cost is worth it 100% in my opinion. I don’t think there’s a doubt that Emirates can beat the quality, but you’ll find yourself paying 10x more! Enjoy the Guam Hopper! I just did that flight in January and it was amazing!
Fantastic video! Learned so much about the Newark airport experience as well as all the flight information too!! It must really such a cool experience to be on an inaugural flight to a new destination!!
Excellent trip report, editing and content 👍 Enjoyed watching it. Flight time was exactly 12:00hrs bang on according to Flight Radar. Your flight took off at 22:08EST and landed in DXB at 18:08 local time (15:08BST). Clocks just went forward in the UK 🇬🇧 an hour for British Summer Time. Flight path took you directly over London, England 🇬🇧 I would guess you flew over London approx 5.5hrs after leaving EWR so around 08.38BST. The jetstream most likely helped your plane cruise well in excess of a ground speed of 600-700mph, if not more, across the Atlantic. From London it would be around 6.5hrs non-stop to DXB, or even less as you were already inflight and cruising at a high rate of speed. 👍

All of these carriers already proved that lots of people fly there every day so they would be viable routes. United only returned to India after Air India launched direct service between BOM & EWR and DEL & EWR.
Yea... I think that there was some disagreements that forced US airlines to pull out of much of the middle east for years. But I know United is happy to be back in Dubai, and American in Doha
in a past Pan Am was flying non stop service from JFK to BAH. it was from the end of 70's to 1983-1984. Pan Am used for these flying Boeing 747 SP. Delta was flying to DXB from ATL too, but service was ended in 2016. Grettings from Poland - Warsaw.😀
That overwing view was very nice. Departing weather ceiling had to be only about 300feet. I had a similar seat and port side, on the LAST Delta B777 flight , JFK-LAX , a few years ago. The plane was only 12yrs old and had just been fitted with a band new interior and was immediately flown to storage within an hour after we deplaned. We actually had last flight welcoming Delta personnel at the gate with drinks and cookies and balloons😢. Came back to Kennedy a couple days later, on a nice, 31yr old B767-300. 😊 Thanks for the reverse trip memories. Awesome vid!
Great video but you mentioned every reason I hate the bulkhead! Stowed Tv, seatmate covering tray table access, can’t fully extend legs, no access to bags on takeoff or landing, bothering seatmate to gain access your bags after takeoff, can’t see tv when working, wobbly tray table, narrow seat because of the stowed tray table! Other than that, I see why it’s your go to!
Just a little side note- in your opening, you said that US airlines haven't flown to the middle east since 2016, but that's factually incorrect. United has been flying to Tel Aviv for decades (initially as Continental, then UA after the merger), in addition to Delta, who has been operating JFK-TLV and imminently re-launching ATL-TLV. American has also been on the JFK-TLV route, as well as MIA-TLV. UA also launched a service to Amman, Jordan, a little while back... So, US airlines have been flying to the middle east for quite some time. In fact, United used to fly from Washington to Kuwait City & Bahrain.
Great video man. I’m leaving from Newark to Japan on United next week. I’ve never been on a plane for more than 5 hours. You gave me pretty good insight on what t expect. 👍🏼
@PatrickSheaAviation We fly economy all the time. Sometimes I wish I did not have flying anxiety because on long haul flights, I must have business class due to my anxiety of flying.
Emirates is a great option from a bunch of US cities, but the cost is just a bit too high if you’re looking to get there on a budget. You can save a few hundred per person with United. Just depends on what you’re looking for
Transiting domestic flights from Terminal C to International flights in Terminal B is very easy. You walk down a set of stairs to a transit bus and you are there in 5 minutes. Returning from overseas in terminal B and transiting to Terminal c for domestic flights is terrible. You walk outside to the air train and wait in long lines for security checks and then walk long distances to your gate.
The only reason to fly united to Dubai from Newark is it is the only one which flies non-stop. If you have the option to fly from JFK or with a stop, it is much better with Emirates.
You might want to modify your voiceover which states that there haven't been any flights from the US to the Middle East until this flight. US carriers have continued to fly to Israel for years, so I don't think your comment is accurate.
I flew this flight a few weeks ago and the catering is just not very good. The only reason to fly then again is if they are much cheaper than the competition.
Great video and gotta love classified and that new UC. Didn’t get to meet in the flight but was a great time! Hope to see you on another United flight sometime or in Dubai! @PatrickSheaAviation I will fly out of Dulles United club next week. I will check to see if it have shower suites. I have used the united club plenty of times but never checked for shower suites.
An “ok” video. In my opinion… there could have been a lot more flight information, (duration, flight path, cruising altitude, airspeed, etc) Cabin interior and layout, Aircraft information (engines, model, unique features, etc). I am an aviation buff and have been fascinated with commercial aircraft since my first flight in to LAX in 1974 (when I was two years old). For me, it’s the actual aircraft that is most interesting and admirable. As a machine… a feat of engineering, an experience to travel on. My sister was a Flight Attendant and I was able to travel all over. The different types of aircraft all have their unique characteristics and cabin experience. I am a big fan of Sam Chui. His videos really capture a love of commercial aircraft and the experience of flying on them. All of this is being said as constructive critique. By covering a few more things and focusing more on the flight and aircraft… you may gain more interest in your content. Your skills as a creator are there… with some fine tuning it could be great.
Well after people spent years hating on it, it seems they are finally, slowly, adding some nice things. You’ll notice that the only nice areas are the new things
Nope. Everything that I had in the lounge was free with admission. People do have the opportunity to purchase day passes into the United club, but that’s the only thing that’ll cost you money
New to your channel you are amazing at these videos love the fact that you speak to your followers and are very much h into details thats a huge plus. I am a flight attendant based in Chicago and definitely will be following you hope you do a vlog on one of my flight. 😂😂
I use airlines’ and airports’ Wikipedia and social media. In both places the inaugural will be announced well in advance for those looking to join the party
If you have business class ticket, it is to my understanding that you’ll have access to the emirates business class lounge. I don’t believe there are any lounges for people holding status
I guess I should have clarified more that it’s been a disagreement more between US and Persian Gulf/Arabian Peninsula aviation markets. I have done that Tel Aviv flight to SFO before
Well, hope United planes don't break like the one's they have going from Houston to Rio de Janeiro. UA129. Every day it is a delay for mechanical and other problems. last night was 14 hours and 30 minutes delay with no explanation and no capability or not want it to fix the issue. The interest part is, we pay a lot money for air fares and United services it is one of the worst of the air lines.
@@EvanEdits888 how is A-380 to big, they just open a $3.7 Billion terminal A, runways are 11,000 and 10,000 FT all they had to do is add a A-380 gate, I guess Emirates didn't want to spend the money, the PA isn't going to do it, there to busy pumping money into JFK!
@@michaelcosta3098Dude, the reason why the A380 can’t land at Newark is because it is too big and it needs a larger taxiways to get to the gates. In fact, the gates can’t handle the A380, it’s only the 747-8 which can handle all these. Plus, it will cost a lot of money for the airport to put these things just for the A380. That’s why emirates only flies 777 to Newark and A380 to JFK.
I can’t possibly imagine united providing even half the service you get from Emirate, Etihad or any gulf carrier, I am sorry. Can you imagine meal service on UA? Let’s not go down the filthy toilets and quality of seats. I had the misfortune of flying UA from LA to Sydney when the seats were torn and hard I ended up having physiotherapy session for weeks after the flight. Let’s not head to the attendant department that is manned by matron-looking overweight staff who are a definite liability in emergency conditions, they would need someone to help them instead of them assisting the passengers. Perhaps things are different now, but I very much doubt it, it is not in the American culture to provide at travel service
If I have one bit of advice, never, ever, never take a domestic carrier to Dubai, etc. Emirates business is likely cheaper and magnitudes better service, food, etc.
Incorrect. I just compared prices for both carriers for a biz class ticket for this fall. UA's cheapest Polaris ticket was $4070 round-trip, while EK was asking $5600 for their cheapest ticket. I've lived in Dubai for over 11 years, & I've never flown EK because of their ticket prices. All the "extra" that you get with their biz tickets isn't worth it to me.
@@get2dachoppa249 I just found one $1700 cheaper from JFK to DXB round trip on Emirates, go figure. 😎 if you’re going to fly United, it’s your money, enjoy the experience 😩

I honestly never knew Newark airport had all those amenities.
Well after people spent years hating on it, it seems they are finally, slowly, adding some nice things. You’ll notice that the only nice areas are the new things
Did you have to pay for the meal in the lounge in EWR?
Thank you! Hope we can meet up on a flight in the future!
@@PatrickSheaAviation of course I'm now watching your Asiana A380 from Thailand to Seoul
How do you find out when an airlines is having an inaugural flight?
I use airlines’ and airports’ Wikipedia and social media. In both places the inaugural will be announced well in advance for those looking to join the party
Did you know you can fly American Airlines to Doha from New York JFK
Yep that route just recently began. It was mentioned early on in the video. One of their few routes that they offer first class
Is there United club in Dubai? I don't think so but in that case I'll use my complimentary cards in Newark
If you have business class ticket, it is to my understanding that you’ll have access to the emirates business class lounge. I don’t believe there are any lounges for people holding status
Me n my friend are there at ground safety😊😊
Love it so much 👏
Thanks!
What is total flight time ? Nice video. Thanks
We made it in 12 hours. Based on what they told us after the flight it was a new NY-Dubai record. Probably due to jet stream, but still appreciative
Have you ever travelled without a Buccee or US state garment Friend? No 😂. LOVE IT! Thanks Shea for catching it 😉
We love the Buc-ee PJs especially overseas! 🤣
Qantas also use T3
United has been flying to the Middle East for years. Lots of flights to Tel Aviv.
I guess I should have clarified more that it’s been a disagreement more between US and Persian Gulf/Arabian Peninsula aviation markets. I have done that Tel Aviv flight to SFO before
@@PatrickSheaAviation Thanks for the video. I’d love to hear the specifics on the disagreement.
Which lounge is available in Dubai for United passengers flying business/Polaris?
That’s a good question. Being in terminal 3 maybe Emirates Business Class??
United to dubai on the 777 sounds fun... somebody shiuld consider dubai
12:24 75%+ of the passengers are connecting to the Indian subcontinent.
Nice to see United is doing a good job at EWR, don't understand why Emirates is not flying A380 at EWR
instead of 777-300
a380s is too big for newark
@@EvanEdits888 how is A-380 to big, they just open a $3.7 Billion terminal A, runways are 11,000 and 10,000 FT all they had to do is add a A-380 gate, I guess Emirates didn't want to spend the money, the PA isn't going to do it, there
to busy pumping money into JFK!
Do you the reason why emirates is no longer codeshare of JetBlue did they hated each other
I don’t know the exact reason, but I believe it has to do with Emirates beginning a partnership with United
@@PatrickSheaAviation so for long time they wanted to partner with United I mean JetBlue was great partnership
Why would one want to fly on United to the Middle East instead of Emirates? Insane. LOL they now downgraded the meal to a cookie from ice cream?
Airfare for one reason. All the ME carriers are noticeably more expensive, especially for their long haul, non-stop biz class tickets.
Whats the economy seat pitch compared to Turkish and emirates airlines
It’s comparable. United has 31” in economy or 34” in economy plus. Emirates is 32” and Turkish is listed as 31-32”
If I have one bit of advice, never, ever, never take a domestic carrier to Dubai, etc.
😎 if you’re going to fly United, it’s your money, enjoy the experience 😩
i really like to see delta united and american airline fly to all over middle east and north africa
It’s always great to see airlines expand to new regions!
Pat pat!
Sorry, but DREADFUL meals!!
They got even worse. They replaced the ice cream with a cookie!!!! LOOOL. United and American are comedians.
