I personally feel like there's a difference between heat damaged and heat trained hair. Like I consider your hair heat trained if it straightens more easily bc its used to heat but still reverts when washed. Its heat damaged if its just straight and doesn't revert back at all. I don't see the two terms as interchangeable but some do.
I dont see a problem w/either or if you don't use heat at all. Whatever works for you!

I agree. My hair is heat “trained”. My hair is easy to straighten and it usually stays straight until it’s shampooed. If I’m caught in the rain, I may get a little curly, but it remains straight for the most part. Once thoroughly soaked for a shampoo my curls return. I love it like this since I never wear my natural curls.

i hope you see this....i know so many men (usually men who have sisters or men who dated a woman who was really into their hair, or men who are just fascinated with hair) enjoy watching hair videos...or watching women get their hair done. I had a homeboy who i have/had a totally plutonic relationship with and i remember when i was in my 20s he used to love to talk on my hair day when he was at my house...but he has sisters...it was literally how we bonded.

That so touched my heart that I had to subscribe. I just love your videos and I love watching a professional at work trying to teach us how to maintain our hair. I use to press my hair every two weeks when I was a teenager I fried my hair with Dax pressing oil and roll it up EVERY night. Her hair is so pretty! I’ve been wearing natural hair since 2005 or so. I’ve never been able to keep a straight style for long because my hair is naturally wavy/curly. Other than blow drying after washing, I haven’t had any heat on my hair. I comb it, part it on the side, twist it, tuck comb it and pull it into a bun. I’m in desperate need of a trim, lol. I really enjoyed watching this video and I appreciate your tutorial on heat damage and how to care for your hair. Thanks for sharing.

Because curls get sweated out but that pony stays SLEEK in the heat and keep ya head warm in the cold! Curls keep ya head warm too! Because I do not wear my natural curls, heat trained hair has been honestly appreciated. Yeah I’m definitely one of those who has heat trained hair. I do a silk press 2 times a week, deep condition 2 times a week as well. Some of us don’t care for our natural curl pattern and I never ever where my natural curls. She is right tho you need to really deep condition and keep up with trims.
    Ps.
I do alternate from silk press and doing my hair using the Dominican method. Shampoo, deep condition with heat, leave in conditioner, serum while the hair is wet, roller set and then blow out. I know a-lot of steps but I do find that roller setting the hair also keeps the moisture better in the hair. It doesn’t look dry like it does when you blow out wet hair.

Honestly, when your hair is straight, it distributes this sebum and other nutrients that are supposed to travel down your hair and otherwise can't do that while it's curled up and or frizzy because,it's too difficult for it to maneuver throughout your hair. Being straightened makes that easier and also the heat from the tool you're using or even just the sun itself helps it travel down to the shaft and into the ends of your hair. That's why these other races have such long hair because, it's straight as well as all the nutrients are going down that hair whenever needed.

how can we make sure that sebum and other nutrients can travel down our kinky curly hair without straightning the hair?

    • @youmad_youtubegood8322
      @youmad_youtubegood8322 2 года назад

@@TheSmily4ever I've seen folks with long hair section it and massage product into all small sections. People with low porosity hair need to somehow open those cuticles up. I would suggest taking your ends in your hands and rubbing them back and forth like you're trying to tighten locs with a good product like Carroll's Daughter.

As a person who used to have long natural hair, I preferred my hair heat trained. I did not have a perm, but I was going to a stylist every two weeks and tried to put minimal heat on my hair in between appointments. Heat-trained hair does not mean that your hair is damaged. I have always had a thick, full head of hair. Even right now with my hair cut short, my hair is so thick that people think it is fake. For me, heat trained hair is about ease of maintenance. I also liked wearing my long hair with a little bit of curl, because I felt like I could get two styles out of it. I would wear it curly for one week, wrap it and let the curls fall for another week, and then could do buns/ponytails/half up half down on week three. It allowed me to minimize the heat even though I primarily wore heat styles.

I love how you do natural hair! I am a cancer survivor and have an autoimmune disorder that affects my hair. I don’t wear it because I am trying to get it to grow and be healthy. I am a nurse as well and wear scrub caps to keep my hair from being out. Haven’t had a professional stylist in my hair for over 20 years…just bad experiences. But would love having a stylist like you to take care of my hair.

I love my hair in its natural state (curly) but it can be difficult to handle sometimes and not a lot of products work in my hair. It tends to dry out a lot. It used to be heat damaged but I did the big chop and now I try to apply heat about three times for the year to maintain my natural pattern.
Also, I love your videos! And your clients hair is beautiful ❤

I went natural in 2006 (before it became a trend) so I went to the Dominicans and just kept getting doobies. And my hair was heat trained/damaged but it was my longest ever and easy to work with. In 2012 I decided to let that hair grow out and stopped using heat so I could see my curls. Love my curls but now hair is harder to deal with so I’m always in protective styles. I’m strongly considering going back to blowing out my hair twice a month 😩 I don’t wear my loose curls and I HATE fairy knots 😣

@Clara Yes it was working for me! My hair was consistently about 16” long, now once it hits 13-14” I have to cut 2” of fairy knots off the ends 🙄 so now it’s stuck at underarm length. I think I am gonna try it again, and now with more education I know how to properly take care of it.

It's curls for me! I only straighten my hair once, two times a year tops. I love my curls so I'm very careful with getting a silk press because I want to keep my texture as untouched as possible. I only let one stylist do my silk presses, I'm so paranoid about salon horror stories.

For me personally, I don’t really think that my hair is heat trained because it has not lost its curl pattern, but I do feel that with me doing my hair, my curls feel softer, idkk. I like my hair being straight more being straight or “stretched out” because it’s soooo much easier to maintain. I was fully natural/no heat for years, but I found myself washing it more than once a week which affected the the natural oils in my hair and I found that with my hair being curly, when I blow dried it, I would have so many more split ends. I find that even just doing a roller set And then just blowdrying my roots does the job, and is healthier for my hair. My hair is down to my butt, so I think it’s working! Btw, love your videos, it’s like therapy 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

I will look busted before setting foot in a Dominican salon again. 😅RUclips is the only social media I have these days. I’m in Baltimore but if you need heads for your channel, I’m on the first thing smokin to Philly!😃 my hair has not been done in about 2 years…..I’ve been through a lot. 😩 I’ve got grays in the front, my natural hair color in the middle & the dyed color on the ends. 12:48 Yeah went to great clips (cause it was 1min from home) for a $17 trim and that's exactly what I got. 😭 I was encouraged to go even though my gut told me not to, but I was like dang my stylist all the way on the eastside (I'm westside 30mins away) and gas is $5. Let's just say I should have listened cause if gas was $10 I would have went after that experience. 😭 She missed a lot when she trimmed my hair and told me it would be in layers if she trims it all the way through, Lort never again. My hairstylist fixed it some weeks later so I'm happy again. 😊 Traveling on the road with my husband who is a truck driver taught me that Walmart, great clips, fantastic sams, ect. those type of places (when I had no other choice) are not for me. They do not know how to handle African American hair (imo) even though they're taught to do all types. I could barely feel her fingers touch my scalp as if she was washing the air. 😂 Anyways her hair looks beautiful, just how I like to get my hair done from my real stylist. 💖

I think like you said one major difference between heat “trained” & heat damage is the amount of TLC and maintenance one is putting into their head. It’s a fine line and you gotta stay on top of it.

I love my hair straight too. But I prefer curls because of how they change my look to mature and serious. I'm natural. I wear my hair curly mainly because it thrives/grows best this way. But, if I had it my way, heat trained/heat damaged would be my choice. My stylist told me if I relaxed or texturized my hair my curls would not come back. #😍Sucks2HaveMyHair😍

I usually start with straight hair and then curl my hair the next week for some fullness. It’s how I make my heat styles last without going overboard.
As someone who also likes to rock my natural curls, heat damage is devastating lol but back in my high school days I was definitely one of those people that thrived on heat damage.

I have not had a relaxer since 1995 and my hair is definitely trained and in some spots "damaged", but I do wear it straight all the time. Even in the light rain, my hair barely reverts. There is a lot of texture in the back, but the front has some straight parts. I think heat damage should not be mistaken for overall damage, the bonds are broken but it does not mean the ends are bad or the hair has to look dull or dry. As for curls vs. straight, I love them both! Hubby loves it curled so I do not wear it straight too often. Love your content!

My 2 cents...heat trained =heat damage. I'm almost 60 and was taught to use a pressing comb..on the stove. Lol. My hair always kinks back up once wet with no straight pieces. Those straight heat damaged pieces will dry and break off over time. Deep conditioning may delay it a bit.
