Todd and Katherine.... I just purchased the XDE 9 today. It came with 3 magazines (1) 8 + 1 and (2) 9 + 1. The sights are fantastic, as the front sight is red which makes it very easy to sight in on the target. I enjoyed the interaction between you and your daughter. Thanks for the video.

Hey Kathrine great shooting, I believe the reason the brass was hitting you was just the slight loose Grip you had on the pistol. You could see the pistol violently recoiling, in regain control or grip, you are canting the pistol at angle enough to send the empty brass straight at you.

Also as a gun shop owner in California, I'm just curious as compared to NJ where I live it's strict also, do you have to follow the magazine limit of 10 while carrying and are you aloud to Carry to protect your shop? In NJ gun shop workers can carry at work only and regular civilians can't. Only LE and retired LE. I have a permit that lets me carry in 28 states but not my home state. I work security at state buildings in Trenton where there's shootings every day and they have those buildings with no armed protection.
All my employees go through firearms training and have to sign a Firearms use policy. Law enforcement are exempt from the laws in California for the most part so they can carry High cap mags and we can sell them to law enforcement only. But we have a very good sheriff in our County who issues concealed weapons permits daily.
Todd Cotta that's good to hear about your sheriff. In NJ you need the sheriff to sign off then you have to write an essay to a judge and have it notarized of why your life is in immediate danger. 100% you will be denied and a copy paste letter about how the police protect you enough is sent. Then the next time you go to purchase a gun you get delayed because you have to check the box that says you have been denied at some point for a firearms related permit. LE and politicians don't have to do this of course. Lastly Katherine and yourself have good voices for video/tv/radio I look forward to future reviews. I like the no BS straight shooting information you put out.
Thank you for watching. Katherine is getting much better at these videos and I am very proud of her. I have been in radio, in one way or another since the early 90's. I used to be a Country Radio DJ, and Online Talk Show Host. I am so sorry to hear NJ is falling apart. I was in NYC in 2015 and learned a lot about their redonculous laws there also. I am working with the NRA/NSSF to try to get a 50 state 2nd Amendment law that will protect all 50 states from the tyrannical left.
I love my Springfield Armory XDE 3.8 9mm! It's the midsize XDE and they make a full sized one the 4.5 9mm but their 45 caliber in the XDE is only in the small 3.3.
Hello Maisie! This gun is pretty much as manageable as you can get.... Have you taken a beginner handgun course? Guns are not as easy as you think. There is a bit of science to shooting guns and having a professional instructor can quickly make that gun work better for you. My range, for example, has a New Shooter class as well as One on One instruction. It will make a world of difference for you. Thanks for watching!
@@ToddCotta Good advice! And speaking from experience, it is always encouraged that you shoot any gun BEFORE you buy it to make sure it "fits" you. I foolishly bought two handguns on recommendation without firing them...a big mistake.
Just picked mine up in time to sign up for magazine madness! Seriously, agree with everything you've said. I shoot it as accurate as my xds, like you, wish the reset was a little shorter. I bought it for safety, being an old revolver / 1911 guy, I always felt like the striker fired guns were like carrying cocked and unlocked. First polymer gun I've owned that I'm comfortable carrying with one in the chamber. Will be interesting to see them offer other calibers. (Now while I'm dreaming, make the next generation as modular as a Sig P320) :)
Also fwiw not all strikers are cocked when the gun is charged. Its more or less half cocked like a 1911. Not to mention that the plunger safety is not going to allow the striker to move without the trigger being pulled. The equivalent would be a hammer drop safety for a decocker that moves when/as the trigger is pressed. I felt like you did for a long time.... So I carried an xds, but once you understand the operation of the pistol there is a greater chance of a 1911 discharging accidentally than a quality striker fired pistol.
I love that gun. I carried a Shield and loved the size and feel but wanted something about that size but with Double/Single action. That gun fit the bill. Feels great. Just a little larger than a Shield. Shoots great.
A point was made about how this pistol is different from most that you review due to being hammer fired vs. striker fired. I seem to be in a minority as I detest striker fired handguns and am unable to understand why anyone would want a weapon that takes more effort to fire.
I've been looking for a pistol like the Springfield and liked your review very much , you covered every question I would have asked in person,I watched a couple of other reviews and one couldn't stop badmouthing the pistol, but didn't even have one , the other guy just blazed away at big man sized targets and to be honest you couldn't tell if he was even hitting them , I want something like a WaltherPPK, ,only in 9 , but with a weaker slide because of a weak hand and one more question , why will they never be sold in California ? , I don't live there so I don' get it
CA has a safe handgun roster that is impossible to add new guns to it. Gov Schwarzenegger passed a "Microstamp" law on the tip of the firing pin and it is not possible to do so. Therefore we have a small number of semiauto pistols to choose from. No new guns have been added to the state roster since 2014
it may have been she had more recoil jump( muzzle flip) than the father did that caused the brass to hit her vs him. You can see it in the video she had much more muzzle flip and the gun hardly moved with him.
All Semi Auto Pistols in CA must have a Magazine Trigger disconnect so it cant fire without the magazine in the gun, and the serial number must be on the head of the firing pin to stamp the primer (no technology available) so we have no new guns in ca since 2014
I lived the first 42 years of my life in NJ, and I can appreciate how you feel about people's negative comments about how gun unfriendly your state can be. It really got old fast hearing that. Very informative video! I am concerned about how the empty shells can straight back at Catherine. Do you think Springfield will have a fix for that? I am not a big fan of striker fired pistols. I presently carry a S&W shield with a safety, but I am seriously considering this hammer fired 9mm.
I like your assessment of the XDE and i agree with the comments about the “Grip zone “ idea its kinda youthful but its atleast textured skin for a better purchase if moisture is an issue. I got mine and i feel it has a responsive trigger and the shoe is broad so you get a smooth pull every time... i also got in on the free promotional event and got to say the items add to its value... its my EDC and it rides comfortably in the appendix zone and in the kidney stone too without discomfort as well... did you notice the micro printing of the hammer? And if thats the only printing one can see it will conceal nicely 😂 im looking to get the .45acp next
I'm no expert but I think the roundcoming back and hitting her in the head was the difference was the way u manage recoil vs. her and I'm not saying she doesn't but she seemed to have more muzzle flip then u, just a thought but I like it too bad we can't have Springfield pistols in Massachusetts also. We do have ways to skirt the laws that are legal but not everyone knows shhhhhh !!!!
Rich The Tactical Plumber Rounds flying straight back because the recoil impulse is not being controlled very well for that particular pistol. Now of course that's not always the case, but it looks pretty obvious here.
I agree if u read my comment I just said the same. I honestly thought she wasn't hitting the target at first. But I guess she's hitting her mark. Maybe a Lil tighter pull with her weak hand would help. But she did seem a Lil anxious or nervous.
Very nice looking piece it seems to me that it has a lot of the same features as the H&K USP I like it. Living just up the road from you and being left handed I am frustrated with the available guns on the roster this would be a great addition but you say it will never be added. I love my H&K P2000sk and have just bought a full size USP Expert 45, had this gun been on the roster I would have considered it for purchase. Its a shame that this is just one more great gun we cant get in Calif. Just learning of your store down in Hanford, we will have to stop buy on one of our trips to get Ice cream at superior if its still open.
I really like my XDs that I have owned over the years, XD9SC, XD9 Service, XDS 9 and XDS45. I have not bought any of the newer XD line but the "grip zone" stamp on there is kind of lame. I may still have to pick up the XDE when SA decides to do another Gear Up promo. Great review.
I agree with the blatant statement of the "grip zone" not sure what audience they were targetting but i don't see many people stippling that part of this gun. seen many covered w a grip tho
Stay strong out there in California. We have a big election coming in NJ this November and the front runner said he plans to add more restrictions. Our laws are similar to yours but not as far yet. Politics aside great video and review.
CA law states all guns MFG after 2014 must have Micro Stamp, mag safety and loaded chamber indicator on each gun. We can not sell guns in CA that don' t meet CA standards. We are suing the state because of it.
Todd Cotta So this is just missing the mag safety?... And what's a micro stamp? I hope you win that lawsuit. CA has a lot of absurd laws, and not just gun laws either.
You are very fortunate to have such a beautiful young lady as a daughter who shares your interest in firearms. I have to literally drag mine to the range to make her practice with her carry weapon. Nice review and channel as well.
can anyone tell me why the gun is not California legal? honestly im just curious. i May have to move to California and im bummed i have to get rid of it
They are illegal to sell new to civilian (Non LEO) in CA. If you own one already you don't have to get ride of it as long as it has 10 round magazines. You can "Self Register" the gun with CA. $19
I love it that your daughter has to tell the boys that pick her up "my Dad owns a gun shop and range, and has a BobCat front loader". LOL. That was weird how it was hitting her in the head and Dad's ejection path was more to the side.
I won't bash your very beautiful state with the nice whether. But why would this be restricted? It carries less than ten. I thought ten round capacity was the issue. My XD45 said "Californa restricted" on the box when I bought it in Texas. But I thought it was for the hi-cap mags.
Three reasons. CA requires loaded chamber indicator, magazine disconnect and micro stamped firing pin to qualify for approval for the Safe Handgun Roster. All must be there to be allowed sold in CA
So, they just came up with a set of impossible standards for marketable firearms. Well. I'm sure these extra steps have been incredibly effective in keeping the inner cities there a crime free utopia. But that aside. Good video. Your kids a pretty good shot.
I think it passes their "sane" tests. Newer guns have to deal with the micro-stamping. (Like criminals would ever use a gun that could be easily tracked back to them... but hey - government at work.) See this link. smartgunlaws.org/design-safety-standards-for-handguns-in-california/
Oh for goodness sakes! Do you folks not read these comments before asking the same question 20 times? Todd, thank you for your patience answering the same question over and over. Nice whether? Really?
I have to say your Daughter is absolutely beautiful! I'm sure ur tired of hearing that by now being her father! Lbs. But if u ask me, I think the reason the spent casings were hitting her was bcuz she may have been limp wristing it. I say that bcuz I seen a lot of muzzle flip. She seems a Lil anxious with it. But hey we've all been there! I've got the xds 45. In it took some getting used to! In ill be honest I had a spent casing smack me right in the forehead once! Lol but it's definitely appealing to the eye! Good review I liked it! In I can say Katherine did hit her mark in that's what truly matters! Good job guys!
Good review, one of the reasons I just got one! You missed trying out the double action firing. You can carry it more safely decocked, double action fire on the first shot, then smooth and single action on the rest. Double or single, the trigger is smooth.
Agreed on Springfield marketing and Damatic commercials and whoever does their extra logo stuff // Pretty lame.Less is more! I actually got the GripZone when first came out Gen1 and got some traction grips to cover the grips on it buged me so much.LOL Springfield is in some deep shit wonder if they will ever step out of it?And fully recover?
California sux......lol. That said..... Everyone must still be mad at SA because I remember for the Xds and the mod 2 all my favorite RUclipsrs already reviewed the gun so much I was sick of it. With the Xde I have all but forgotten it's announcement. Im not crazy about the trigger guard on the XDs it digs into my middle finger 2nd knuckle and prevents me from choking up on the gun. Not very ergonomic for me, and with the large back strap I would totally pass on the xds. The small one makes gripping the pistol better but the trigger guard is still uncomfortable for me.
CA law states all guns MFG after 2014 must have Micro Stamp, mag safety and loaded chamber indicator on each gun. We can not sell guns in CA that don' t meet CA standards. We are suing the state because of it.
Todd Cotta That's terrible. I watched the video with you and the other man explaining what makes a CA compliant rifle and I was furious that Californians' 2nd amendment rights are trampled on.
CA has a "Safe handgun roster" if the gun is not on that list, it can no be sold to the public in CA. Recently 2014 the AG of CA passed a rule that said all new pistols must have a Micro Stamp on the tip of the firing pin. NO gun can do that, there fore we can not sell guns older than 2014. CA must still sell G3 Glocks because they were submitted to CA before 2014.
Ca refuses to abide by federal laws on many levels, but keeps their hand out for Federal money. Marijuana, Sanctuary cities, and many more laws CA ignores, but we as the minions must obey all of Sacto's edicts. it is shameful.
Todd Cotta ah I see... Can't you just remove the mag disco at home? I saw that judge blocked the 10 round limit, did that affect all of Cali or just one county?
It will be interesting to see if Springfield will produce the XD-E without the stupid manual safety. A decocker-only model would be so much better. There is the ban of the XD-E in California due to the criminal politicians, but there is also a ban on the XD-E and all SA and RRA products due to the sell-out by SA and RRA in the criminally bankrupt state of Illinois. When the XD-E is offered without the stupid manual safety and the consumer ban on purchasing SA products is lifted, the XD-E can be a nice product for some concealed carry options. Thanks to Todd and Katherine for making this review. It is one of the good actual reviews of the XD-E pistol. The extended magazine helped with the brass to the face problem. The XD-E is only half designed properly to prevent brass to the face for smaller hands. At least the XD-E does not have the stupid grip safety that the XD-S has, so the tang can be modified to help female shooters.
i second on the bs with the ban i mean for fck sake i cant even get the smith&wesson M&P 22 compact in southern fckifornia but i can get the full size 9mm/40 s&w but not a no threaded barrel S&W M&P 22. bullsssshhtt
I know some of you guys don't care for the word "Grip Zone" running down the grip, but I think Springfield was look to enhance Brand Recognition/Reinforcement with that being on a highly visible place on the pistol. I don't see it a childish in a sea of different firearms to make it easier for potential purchasers to remember your brand first over another. I actually see it as marketing genius to be quite honest. Does it really do anything?.. No I don't feel it does. But after your buddy shots the one you have or sees it in an ad, he is likely to say he wants that a gun he practice fired that had the word GRIP ZONE in the grip of the pistol. Any Dealer will know what that person is looking for with 100% certainty, and they won't go get a Glock or Shield, Kimber, etc. from the display.
Cod it's a good thing that you haven't talked to her daughter to arm herself. Because it would take more than a baseball bat to beat the boys off of her. She is a very beautiful girl. God bless you both and have a Happy New Year.
Thank you for that,.... Most all modern Springfield pistols have that feature now. I am just so used to it, i neglected to mention it. Thanks for watching!
Yes branding, but looks like they, (HS Produkt/Springfield Armory) learned their lesson. Funny how it was NOT added to the XDS Mod2. Sometimes good intentions are bad ideas that give people something to turn into a joke. That branding backfired on them. I have not seen a single person who feels that was a good idea.
Good video, good information...the only comment that I have for daughter is to not ride the slide, just let go...other than that you just got another subscriber.
I have been all over America, north south east west, and NO state compares to the diverse scenic landscapes as CA. Best Mountians, deserts, ocean, and farming. But our Politics is what ruins it. Los Angeles and San Francisco dominate our politics and it makes it pretty miserable here. Right now they are trying to make handing straws at restaurants a crime. Plus strip us of our gun rights.
Like bellbottoms, double action hammers are comin back baby! I love em. So much safer and let's be real, you probably aren't going to need your EDC ever. EVER. So erring on the side of safety is best. PS California is BEAUTIFUL, shitty but beautiful. :-)
She may be left eye dominant holding the gun more to the left side or limp wristing from my observation you should relax just a little bit or end up with tendinitis if your dad owns a gun shop and you're shooting constantly.Relax a little Bend those elbows a bit will help with the recoil as well like a shock absorber drop that right foot back a bit this will help with transition practice and moving behind cover being more mobile and adgile.Sorry DAD Constructive Criticism JMO.🙃 yes California is a beautiful area I grew up in Santa Cruz 38 years Avid Surfr then moved to Hawaii. Never been back Since. So sad it has changed so much the state still remains beautiful the people messed it all up.

I like this gun but would prefer a better single action trigger. Can they be adjusted without replacing?
Thanks for watching!
I love my Springfield Armory XDE 3.8 9mm! It's the midsize XDE and they make a full sized one the 4.5 9mm but their 45 caliber in the XDE is only in the small 3.3.
Glad you like it! Have a great day!
Great video! I like when the whole family are shooters... By the way where can I get some of those targets?
Those are our custom targets. We have them made in Southern CA.
Todd Cotta can i buy some from y’all?
I agree"grip zone" is kinda goofy. Good review thanks guys.
Thanks for watching!
This is the first pistol I bought, and if this is the pistol you used it is a lovable little gun to own
Thanks for watching!
Was advised to buy this gun, im left handed and having a pretty hard time handling it...any suggestions ? Also its my 1st gun eveŕ
(Now while I'm dreaming, make the next generation as modular as a Sig P320)
:)
Charles Amsler Magazine madness never ends unless gun sales go up..... Something tells me itll be going on for the next year straight easily.
Thanks for watching!
I love that gun. I carried a Shield and loved the size and feel but wanted something about that size but with Double/Single action. That gun fit the bill. Feels great. Just a little larger than a Shield. Shoots great.
Thanks for watching!
I love you to Kings gun range good people
Thanks for watching!
First time watching one of your videos. I enjoyed it and subbed. Good stuff!
Thanks for watching!
Do you know if there is any after market barrels? I wanted to custom my new xde 9mm.
Thanks for watching!
A point was made about how this pistol is different from most that you review due to being hammer fired vs. striker fired. I seem to be in a minority as I detest striker fired handguns and am unable to understand why anyone would want a weapon that takes more effort to fire.
Thanks for watching!
No new guns have been added to the state roster since 2014
nice father/daughter video!
Thanks for watching!
it may have been she had more recoil jump( muzzle flip) than the father did that caused the brass to hit her vs him. You can see it in the video she had much more muzzle flip and the gun hardly moved with him.
Thanks for watching!
nice review, what's a mag safety? won't fire when the mag is out? also what is a micro stamp?
All Semi Auto Pistols in CA must have a Magazine Trigger disconnect so it cant fire without the magazine in the gun, and the serial number must be on the head of the firing pin to stamp the primer (no technology available) so we have no new guns in ca since 2014
wow, that stinks! thanks for clearing that up
I think the brass coming back at her was more of her not being able to hold the gun firm enough
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
She defiantly had a few shots that were limp wrists the pistol. The casing when shot by him went to the right.
I agree if u read my comment I just said the same. I honestly thought she wasn't hitting the target at first. But I guess she's hitting her mark. Maybe a Lil tighter pull with her weak hand would help. But she did seem a Lil anxious or nervous.
naw its random you cant control how brass ejects from a pistol
Thanks for watching!
I had lunch with the owner of Superior Dairy a few days ago. Yes its still open and walking distance from my Indoor Range. TC
I thought H&K and Sig sauer 226 can pull the trigger with out racking the slide?
Thanks for watching!
Love the video! Really interested in the XDe. Keep preaching the gospel of guns and personal protection to the citizens of California.
Thanks for watching!
love this video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Stay strong out there in California. We have a big election coming in NJ this November and the front runner said he plans to add more restrictions. Our laws are similar to yours but not as far yet. Politics aside great video and review.
No hollow points is crazy
Thanks for watching!
wait... why is this not sold in California? It's not a 10 round mag, it has an external safety... what am I missing?
Thanks for watching!
I love a DA/SA With the Decock
Thanks for watching!
can anyone tell me why the gun is not California legal? honestly im just curious. i May have to move to California and im bummed i have to get rid of it
They are illegal to sell new to civilian (Non LEO) in CA. If you own one already you don't have to get ride of it as long as it has 10 round magazines. You can "Self Register" the gun with CA. $19
@@ToddCotta dude thank you. Its extremely hard to get a straight answer from anyone about CA gun laws
I think the brass was coming back at her because she was bucking a bit before she pulled the trigger.
Thanks for watching!
Spriengfields do shoot low and off center a bit.....but still GREAT guns!!!
Thanks for watching!
I love it that your daughter has to tell the boys that pick her up "my Dad owns a gun shop and range, and has a BobCat front loader". LOL. That was weird how it was hitting her in the head and Dad's ejection path was more to the side.
Thanks for watching!
(Like criminals would ever use a gun that could be easily tracked back to them... but hey - government at work.)
See this link.
smartgunlaws.org/design-safety-standards-for-handguns-in-california/
Thanks for watching!
Should have fired double/single several times to test, as it would be actually carried.
Thanks for watching!
Good review, one of the reasons I just got one! You missed trying out the double action firing. You can carry it more safely decocked, double action fire on the first shot, then smooth and single action on the rest. Double or single, the trigger is smooth.
Thanks for watching!
She had a lot of muzzle flip on hers when she was shooting. I don't think she had a good grip on it and that's why the ejected shells hit her.
Thanks for watching!
It's a great pistol.
Thanks for watching!
Wish you guys did some double action shooting but overall nice vid.
Thanks for watching!
I agreee mr pants, you should carry a hi point!
Thanks for watching!
Agreed on Springfield marketing and Damatic commercials and whoever does their extra logo stuff // Pretty lame.Less is more! I actually got the GripZone when first came out Gen1 and got some traction grips to cover the grips on it buged me so much.LOL
Springfield is in some deep shit wonder if they will ever step out of it?And fully recover?
Thanks for watching!
I got one today.. thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
why cant you buy this gun in CA?
CA law states all guns MFG after 2014 must have Micro Stamp, mag safety and loaded chamber indicator on each gun. We can not sell guns in CA that don' t meet CA standards. We are suing the state because of it.
Todd Cotta That's terrible. I watched the video with you and the other man explaining what makes a CA compliant rifle and I was furious that Californians' 2nd amendment rights are trampled on.
Nice video. Forgot to show the gun Cocked & Locked !
Thanks for watching!
Great video! It awesome to see you teaching your daughter about firearms. Maybe we need more gun education not gun control.
Thanks for watching!
Curious, why is this not allowed in CA?
CA has a "Safe handgun roster" if the gun is not on that list, it can no be sold to the public in CA. Recently 2014 the AG of CA passed a rule that said all new pistols must have a Micro Stamp on the tip of the firing pin. NO gun can do that, there fore we can not sell guns older than 2014. CA must still sell G3 Glocks because they were submitted to CA before 2014.
ruclips.net/video/LzCnmVUct9Y/видео.html
Todd Cotta Outrageous! Does the AG know that they can't actually pass laws? Is anyone challenging this infringement of your 2A rights?
Ca refuses to abide by federal laws on many levels, but keeps their hand out for Federal money. Marijuana, Sanctuary cities, and many more laws CA ignores, but we as the minions must obey all of Sacto's edicts. it is shameful.
The citizens of California need to revolt
It's less than 10 rounds, why is it banned in Commiefornia?
Magazine safety disconnect, and microstamp are needed to be approved in Kommiefornia
Todd Cotta ah I see... Can't you just remove the mag disco at home? I saw that judge blocked the 10 round limit, did that affect all of Cali or just one county?
I just got mine! Great firearm, I love all my Springfield pistols.
Thanks for watching!
I don’t like the DA/SA guns because you might re-holster a cocked gun in the heat of battle.
Thanks for watching!
Maybe the pretty lady is just strong??? I have trouble with the slide on all these semi autos
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Ummmmm second strike ability is normal for all double actions it's nothing new lol. Hell you can even do that with Taurus g2c
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
Cod it's a good thing that you haven't talked to her daughter to arm herself. Because it would take more than a baseball bat to beat the boys off of her. She is a very beautiful girl. God bless you both and have a Happy New Year.
Thanks for watching!
forgot top bar on pistol raises to show round is in. need to know gun before review
Thank you for that,.... Most all modern Springfield pistols have that feature now. I am just so used to it, i neglected to mention it. Thanks for watching!
that little thing has a good kick
Thanks for watching!
No shots in DA?
Thanks for watching!
Some people just don't understand branding.
Yes, it looks silly, but "GripZone" is is branding, not instructions.
@@ToddCotta I'm glad that they removed it from their newer pistols, too.
Good video, good information...the only comment that I have for daughter is to not ride the slide, just let go...other than that you just got another subscriber.
Thanks for watching!
Never been to California but it looks nice but everyone says it's a shit hole ?
I have been all over America, north south east west, and NO state compares to the diverse scenic landscapes as CA. Best Mountians, deserts, ocean, and farming. But our Politics is what ruins it. Los Angeles and San Francisco dominate our politics and it makes it pretty miserable here. Right now they are trying to make handing straws at restaurants a crime. Plus strip us of our gun rights.
If I would get it I would change the trigger for sure!
Thanks for watching!
Like bellbottoms, double action hammers are comin back baby! I love em. So much safer and let's be real, you probably aren't going to need your EDC ever. EVER. So erring on the side of safety is best. PS California is BEAUTIFUL, shitty but beautiful. :-)
Thanks for watching!
