  • One of my hobbies is genealogy! In this video I share a dramatic reading of a letter written by my great uncle Isaac George Bailey Sr to his wife Sue Elvie Ford Bailey in 1903. The letter is quite moving in his observations of the social structure of the world as he travels from Dermott Arkansas to Philadelphia PA to attend the National Baptist Convention founded by Dr. E. C. Morris.
One of the most touching things I discovered in this letter regarding my family research is that he mentions that his father and his grandfather are from Baltimore. They are my 3rd and 4th great grandfathers. I know the name of my 3rd great grandfather is Perry Bailey but no name for my 4th great grandfather yet. However, I now know he was from Baltimore.
Isaac G. Bailey was born enslaved in 1847 in Arkansas City Arkansas. He served as a member of the Arkansas state legislature for 2 years from 1885-1887. He was a well regarded man in the communities of Dermott, Little Rock and Pine Bluff Arkansas.
It's so important to capture your family members thoughts and ideas and say thank you while they are still here. Let me know your takeaways from this video and let me know how your family history research is going!
