Best time I ever ever had in the entire island of Honshu. Aomori Nebuta Matsuri festival flutes really stayed with me since August 2019. I need to go back in 2021 (COVID19 permitting of course). The people were friendly, the food was unique, was hesitant at first as a westerner. Now I miss eating Okonomiyaki and Soba. The places are clean right after a major festival. People have major respect which I love the most about Japan. They kept their culture and never wavered to western influences too much. I even have a Japanese friend (but outside the 2019 period). Willing to take me to Ibaraki tourist hot-spots when the world opens up again.
We have many big festivals or Matsuri in Japan. Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, Tenjin Maturi in Osaka, Kanda Matsuri in Tokyo, Hakatadontaku in Fukuoka, Tanabata Matsuri in Sendai, Kantou Matsuri in Akita, Nebuta Maturi and so on. Between ourselves, I've never been to such big festivals. (TT) I only take part in local festivals held in my neighborhood. In Japan, most of the festivals are held in Autumn to be thankful to have a good harvest. So for those who would like to visit Japan, Fall is the best season, I think. Because they can enjoy Japanese food in seaon, Matsuri and especially, beautiful red and yellow leaves!! Have a good time in Japan!!^^
Aomori is my birthplace. Thanks for your introduction. All of the people in the World, you can join this festival any time during this term if you want. I hope many people join it.
Nebuta festival was great at night when it's lit up very nice colours !!!!! And lots of preparation wow years ago with candles sounds a danger back in them days . Thank god for l,e,d lighting now John !!!!!!! 👍🏼
I really like these events. They show me the importance of culture and tradition. How they keep good values and create the sense of comunity. Another good video. Congratulations.
We were planning our Northern trip for 2020. This officially made it during the summer. Thanks for another great video! My best to you, and your lovely wife!
It really is night and day! Haha Stunning. The last night, the floats are on boats on the bay with fireworks. I didn't stay for that but it is worth mentioning. Really amazing!! -John
+Rain Awareness hahaha! I used it sparingly. My cameraman was not used to the equipment and took extra filler shots myself -- but yes -- it won't be a habit :) -John
I'm really proud of you, John. I know you always try your best, and you participating in this event made me feel like a part of it. I've been to Japan once, but I can't wait to go back, thanks to you! :)
I accidentally watched one of your video and didn't realize I kept watching the whole videos at a time. It's so informative and entertaining. And the way you host is just all out and natural, and of course funny. I felt like watching discovery channel sparkled with humor. Keep posting !!!
+David Dupree Totally awesome! It's the summer festival everyone should participate in at least once in Japan! You've got to make the trip up, David! Rassera! Rassera! -John
+Shrivardhan Jadhav Hello from Tokyo! Great to hear from you Shrivardhan and please do come to Japan for a visit someday. I heard that next year, Indian tourists won't need a visa! It will be easier to visit Japan for people and that is always good! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! -John
Yes it is!! Honestly cannot say enough good things about it. Aomori is off the beaten path and well worth the trip esp in summer. Can't wait to go back ... Next year? Maybe!!! -John
Found out about this through Kid Icarus Uprising, a AR card mantions this festival, because there's a nebuta of Pit and Paluentena! I fangirl a ton, but this is absolutely amazing! Just a nother reason for me to take a trip to Japan! I love their culture!!!
as a kid who grew up in Tohoku, I cannot recommend this festival enough!! such an amazing experience, and he didn't even have a chance to cover all the awesome street stalls! But still amazing video man keep it up. If i ever make it to the Nebuta festival again, I'll have to volunteer as a dancer haha that was great.
Which day is the best to view this parade? 6th or last day 7th with fireworks? I hear on the last day the parade is afternoon, so no night walk with lid up floats in the evening?
Awesome video, as ususal! The 'Rassera' reminded me of the Akira OST? I hope i'm not mistaken on that one...! Keep up the good work, I really wish to see such pretty floats IRL once, especially when lit!
+RietjeRox Thanks!! Yes, the shouting does seem similar doesn't it. I think this festival has certainly inspired many anime and manga artists over the years. -John
He should have included the festivals final day where the floats are lit up towed out to the sea, lit up, and then set ablaze on the water. It's a beautiful scene & memory!
Great videos! I'm always learning something new and this has built up my anticipation for Japan travel so much! Can't wait to see the country for myself. Also I don't mean any bad but in your outfit at the end you looked a lot like the karate kid lol
Nice video. One thing though in regards to your comment early in the video, I read that the oni were demons like the yokai and kami were translated as gods.
What a great video!) I think I will visit Japan and take part in Nebuta festival this year, so it was interesting to find smth new) But I'm a bit scared cause there's sooo many people dancing and shouting😅
How fun! It kind of reminds me of Mardi Gras in the USA, but this looks ways cooler! I can imagine how sore and tired you were, but completely worth it. Oh neat next is UFO Catchers! When I was a kid I was awesome at Crawl Machines I once needed a 4 gallon trash bag to fit all my plush toy innings in.
+Eszra I haven;t been to Mardi Gras yet but it's an interesting comparison! Total fun and loads of dancing and singing!! Yes, the UFO Catcher is really neat. I always wanted to know if there was a science behind it ... and there actually may be! ... that's a lot of plush toys!! hahahaha I haven't had that much luck -- yet. -John
Hey I was wondering if you could do i video on Japanese kit kats. I'm going to Japan in January next year and would really like to hear some info about it. Great channel keep up the good work :)
I am a Japanese. Nebuta is very colorful, and it is exciting! It is my favorite carnival. The people jump while appealing for a shout called "Rasseraaaa Rasseraaaa". I want you to participate by all means if you go to Japan. You will suffer from a muscular pain on the next day when you jumped. :D
+soudesune2011 haha!! Yes, the next day, I was a little sore from jumping, shouting and dancing -- and drinking with locals! Aomori is so much fun as a city because of the great people living there. Thank you for watching! -John

Questions please! : 1. How many times in the summer do they do this festival? 2. What month specifically do they do this festival? 3. Is there a specific time?
Are you allowed to wear white socks that have a split for the big toe? I know Japanese people wear them, I was just wondering if those socks would be acceptable if their white too
Can someone please tell me what is the title of the Taiko drums music that starts at 0:16 and 3:02? It is so fun and upbeat that I wish to add to my playlist. Thanks!

Questions please! :
1. How many times in the summer do they do this festival?
2. What month specifically do they do this festival?
3. Is there a specific time?
Only from Aug. 2nd to 7th every year. please refer www.nebuta.or.jp/
Are you allowed to wear white socks that have a split for the big toe? I know Japanese people wear them, I was just wondering if those socks would be acceptable if their white too
the nebuta similar with ogoh-ogoh which paraded at "pengerupukan" night, a night before "Nyepi" day at Bali. But the ogoh-ogoh smaller than nebuta :D
Yesss,new video.
wow those floats are epic af!
Can someone please tell me what is the title of the Taiko drums music that starts at 0:16 and 3:02? It is so fun and upbeat that I wish to add to my playlist. Thanks!
Is this the same time of year as the rice paddie art?
i plan to visit japan this august. Is only 6 Aug enough for joining this event?
cool love that art work
Strange... I noticed SDG60S-3A6 generator inside this floats. Why they need 28800 W of power?? That's way over the top, considering how efficient modern LED lights are...
Great Video!!! Sugoi desu! :)
the art design is freaking GODLY! in fact it's multi dimensional and rotational is even more GODLY.
