As a D&D player of c.35 years, I've seen new players enjoy - and pick up easily - the cleric. A good blend of melee and spells. Spells that can be swapped out afer a long rest, and a menu of spells that are not overwhelming to pick from. Keep up the great work Alex, your vidoes are a pleasure to watch, and this ol' hand can still pick up new tips and tricks. Never stop learning!
Been a DnD player for some years now, but I thought I'd chime in with a suggestion I recently came across: namely, suggesting that the Bard class is good for new players. It gives you a sample-plate of all the different things in the game. There's nothing a Bard is useless at, which means the player will always feel as though they're contributing, but equally there's nothing the Bard is *brilliant* at, which discourages hyperfixating.
I wish 5E wasn't the starting point of D&D for most people today. Its focus on builds and combat is antithetical to the origins of exploration and treasure hunting. In the modern game gold tends to be meaningless, as is time, light etc. A completely different game. I wish people's first exposure would be games where fiction is first and the mechanics are secondary in a supporting role.
You aren't wrong but this is up to the DM. I'm fiction and exploration first. The biggest problem though is 5e throws so much gold at you and typically doesn't give you anything to do with it, so you wind up having to homebrew mechanics just to make something worthwhile.

I haven't played it for a long time so great video to help get back into D&D. Awesome Christmas jumper ❤
Great video, but the audio seems to be quite low. Otherwise happy to see a new creator with such a positive attitude towards the hobby!
I'd be a warlock or archer. I love the Christmas jumper ❤
Hi Alex❤❤
I am not new to dnd, but just love to listen to you talk❤
This was helpful. Thanks Alex.
