great idea...I have never thought about different game backup plan. I have played in games where we had backup characters and a backup storyline, if too many people were missing for the main game, but it was always with the same system. missed an opportunity there for sure.
In my case it was introducing my present gaming group to HERO/Champions and then after that Ironclaw/Jadeclaw. (My group Really like the Sanguine RPGs.) After those two RPGs, which lasted just under six months, I returned to running Rolemaster for about a year-and-a-half. Then back to a Champions campaign.
I hated it in the 80s. Seeing that there are so many people who love it 40 years later makes me think that I must have misunderstood something. I guess I should give it another chance
People who will only play D$D don't want to play an RPG so much as they want to be a part of something. Because there is every reason to play anything but D$D, except the community.

Get better players. If they are so inflexible find other people to play with
