Living in Texas and having gone through Snowmageddon without power for 4 days in 5 degree temperatures, I can tell you what saved us, our family, and many neighbors that we helped. First of all, having a tri-fuel generator and knowing how to use it and having multiple types of fuel to run it was our saving grace! Did you know propane in the 30 lb. bottles doesn’t work at 5 degrees! We didn’t either, but soon found out! Luckily we had stocked up on gas. Our Coleman butane stove was priceless and we also have 2 extra that we loaned out to family and friends. Canned soups and one pot simple meals with plastic dishes and silverware to serve with. Mr. Buddy heaters to loan out to friends as we were able to run our gas furnace with the generator. Lots of warm blankets, clothes and boots, which we didn’t have a lot of living in Texas, but have remedied that now. Bottled water as well as water storage containers as we ended up having to boil and store water because of possible contamination. Luckily we were pretty well prepared, but many of our family, neighbors and friends weren’t. We loaned out lots of additional provisions and even took in family, their pets, and an elderly neighbor and his grandson who were trying to get warm in their vehicle. Also, make sure you are prepared with provisions to protect your pipes and have plenty of clean linens for unexpected guests. We didn’t wash for 4 days and had 4 extra people and 3 dogs living with us. Bottom line, prepare for everything! 👍🏻😊
I was there! We are from Wisconsin, went to Houston for our first winter getaway. What an eye opener. We thought we were tough, but we were not prepared.

When the tornadoes trashed our stretch of Central Georgia, We did just fine with no power for four days, but loaned our son's friends our generator when they were isolated for over a week. They had to chain it up as the human vultures were waiting at the end of the driveway to steal it if possible. A huge oak tree cut their house in half, so a tarp was not enough. We had food, water, sanitation and alternate lighting. butane camp stoves and lots of dehydrated and home canned food got us through. Thanks for all the nudging, AG.

Buy a military surplus multi piece sleep system sleeping bag. Look it up. One set for each family member.
Everyone needs to get to the point that they can treat every trip to the store as if it was the last. I never go to the store without a list, I never shop the day I make a list, I always make the list while checking what I have.
You are right. I use the Notes feature in my phone. I have a list for each store. During the week I add things to the list as I see them or think of them. Then my husband just texts me for my list. Now he says to X to the Public list or the Sam's Club list. I even have a Home Depot list. LOL
Yes, yes! I have a list in my phone for each store I go to. When I get to that store I take out my list and start there. It keeps me focused and up on my preps as I go about my daily routine.
Yes that and like their paycheck may be their last for awhile. You NEVER know when your resources are going to get cut off or cut down.

One thing people underestimate the need for are "rags".
If you run out of toilet paper, feminine hygiene items. Have a mess or an injury.
You will need washable rags,,or toss them.

Honestly,I've always had extra but THIS HAS BEEN ON MY MIND EVERY TIME I have gone to the store for the last 2 years, Which is why I have waaay to much meat in my freezer and have canned far more than I expected.
We go to a proper butcher shop twice a year to keep our freezer fully stocked. I get nervous if it gets too low.
I can't trust our local butcher shop. The last time I went , they put gray ground beef inside and wrapped the outside in fresher-looking redder meat.@@mmc9828
I learned to pressure can less than two years ago because I wanted meat on the shelves. The canned meats were hard to find, often expensive and except for a few cans, have food starch inthem.I got some; I got lots of corned beef and chicken, but I did my own other meats.@@mmc9828

We live in a trailer and you wouldn't think we'd have room to store anything. And space is certainly at a premium. However you can tuck supplies under your bed, and under/behind couches. If you do it right, it remains unseen. More durable supplies can be hidden under the skirt of your trailer. Things like camp stoves, tarps, etc.
Be sure to keep an eye on the dates of the items you were purchasing. Make sure they are as far out as you can get them. Once in your home, rotate the stock so that the oldest items are getting used, and replaced. You don't want to have an emergency 10 years from now to find out that 50 to 100% of what you bought now is no good.
Think like a squirrel or an ant, saving for the darker times. When times are good, put up what you can. Money, gold silver, food. Don't think that the bad times aren't coming because they always do.
Great reminders to look for every nook and cranny. Be careful of the weight of your supplies in your trailer.
I bought some extra toilet flappers recently in case of leaky toilets.

Thank you, AG. Great list of reminders. I suggest any DIY books on First aid, Off Grid Preps, etc. Medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, canes , crutches, back, leg, neck braces, safety equipment in the bathroom…anything for at home convalescent care.
Spare eye glasses (I'm blind w/o mine), lots of back up battery for charging my cell phone, cash in small bills, a good water filter, and my car's gas tank topped off.
Those stick on light switches are great! One of our bathrooms doesn’t have a window and is very dark if the power is out. I saw the light switches at dollar tree and bought one for every room/closet that doesn’t have a natural light source during the day. Sure makes power outages a bit more comfortable!
we have one in our windowlless bathroom, the mains light turns on an extractor fan so the stick ons save us money.
Yes, we have those too, they're the same in the UK, they hold on with Velcro so easy to use elsewhere. We have them in cupboards, & at the top & bottom of our stairs. 👍

Here is about the last run. If it's really that bad, you going out will be your last time to breathe. You will get hurt (or worse) over something you probably could get by without until you can trade with someone. A place with panicking people is the last place you want to be. Not to mention while you are not home, someone can decide that they really like it with everything else you have. If you know that something is seriously wrong, the best thing you can do is not to go anywhere.

We're good for the most part. Fresh produce will be the issue bc growing season is winding down here. I'm going to try to bring my peppers in pots in the house under put them under grow lights. If they do well, I will add tomatoes and greens.
Metal camp plates. Wipe after use let the flame of your fire burn any residue off the inside and wipe the ashes out. Not as nice as paper plates but lasts longer.
The grid down light switches with rechargeable batteries put in (12v or solar re-charged) came in handy while I drastically reduced my power cost the last 5 months.

I "feel" so prepped up yet I know there is lots more I could make do with.
I just scored two large insulated Fish Totes and have my eye on number three.
I've already filled one Tote with another half ton of whole Wheat (and there's room for 200 lb more) and the other Tote is reserved for a half ton off whole Corn. The last Tote is smaller and will hold at least 500 lb of whole Oats, ... when I pick this smaller Tote up that is.
"They" throw their damaged Totes in the ditch and then fill them with garbage for the dump and I get them before they get filled, ... although there are three Totes full of garbage there now, ... I may have to empty one or two of them. This is "Fish Industry garbage", as in broken Pallets and crates, ... cardboard and whatnot. Nothing dangerous so far. Just awkward stuff that people are too lazy to toss up high into the great big steel garbage rig they use. The sides are six feet high and it's a real toss to get stuff in there.
Most of these Totes are stabbed by the forklifts or crushed in between trucks or fall off trucks, ... anyway, they are no longer water tight and some are so bad they are not even good for me, .. but the ones that are good enough, make perfect vermin proof grain storage.
I am truly blessed eh? Now to haul a couple of the smaller ones into the woods to stash and fill with "back up" emergency preps. (wishful thinking for now)
If I was to get more of anything it would be Kerosene for my Oil Lamps. 12 and a half gallon is not a lot of Kerosene when you start to use it all the time.
I have a 45 gallon plastic barrel that's not suitable for food or water but it would make great Kerosene storage. I'll have to see if the local Oil "dealer" will sell me some Kerosene "bulk" and affordable. It's over $60 for a five gallon steel bucket of the stuff and buying it that way would take months to fill the Barrel. Not to mention the steel buckets are excellent storage to begin with so why decant them into a Plastic Barrel?

I'm looking for an old fashioned Kerosene heater as well but will only buy it if it's a deal. Now that thing would go through the Kerosene fast. But for an emergency, it would work fine. Just not long term.
My All American Canner deal fell through and I've lost interest in the Jase Case, ... crazy I know, but I follow my interests and now I'm interested in a small heavy duty Grain Mill I can buy for $311.00 and a real nice Alcohol Still I could get for $150.
Then we'll see if my interest in the Jase Case returns. I hope it does because my interest in things tends to make them easier to acquire. For me anyway.
OK, I still have a half a five gallon bucket of Beets to get processed, ... lucky me.

YES. I have that, and got dental wax, because I recently broke a tooth and until I could get to the dentist, I used it to cover the sharp edges and it protected my tongue.

Cold medicine. I needed that this week. I had it, and I was really glad I stashed bubbly water instead of ginger ale. It felt good on my throat. Today I bought unflavored bubbly water in cans, not the big bottles. So what if it goes flat, in an emergency, it will still be drinkable. Think of New Orleans right now, very close to a water emergency because of drought. I was also glad I stashed salty potato chips away because I didn't have my usual saltines that I keep in case of colds and flu. I also had all the makings for hot toddys. This came in handy for the first night or two when I couldn't find my cold medicine and could only find my zantac. Prepping can come in handy when you least expect it.
I started prepping after the Montreal ice storm, my cooking ability comes down to my brick fireplace it took a few tries but I managed to cook a nice load of bread in it , in a Dutch oven , ❤
I've mentioned it before, but Alaska Granny's excellent recommendations of Dollar Tree's shelf stable quarts of whole milk are indispensable staples, whether there is an emergency or not.
They're not always in great supply but over the past several months, I have managed to accumulate just under a total of 20 gallons worth. And, yes, I make regular use of these milks in my occasional nightly 🌙 cold cereals and my occasional morning 🌄 hot cereals. Of course, with winter fast approaching, I'll be using them more frequently with hot cereals, homemade mashed potatoes 🥔 (or the packaged versions) and macaroni and cheese 🧀 side dishes.
For emergency use only, I also purchased a box of 30 ct. packets of Carnation chocolate breakfast drink, which I would mix with cold shelf stable milk. I'm planning to purchase at least one more box (totaling 60 "meals") over at Sam's.
Just some ideas.

Socks and lots of extra underwear will be critical if the grid goes down, or if the supply chain is disrupted. Also, needles and polyester thread to keep all of our clothes pieced together when they start to wear out.
The last one is about eating food straight from a can. If you have a choice, you'd better not. There is always a chance that it was not sealed properly, it got contained, or the worst of all in my humble opinion would be botulism. It's a small chance, but if you're already in a rough situation, don't take a chance. Empty a can and boil the food. Heat it up in a can, but avoid eating canned food without reheating it.

We have 2 P38s. My 2 daughters were each gifted one at an Army surplus store. We all had no idea what they were until the owner told us lol!

I believe it is possible for most of us to stock up with enough of the basic necessities to not need to shop for six to twelve months of frugal living. However, I believe very few of us have the skills and resources to do subsistence living for the rest of our lives. Most of us could not raise and butcher our own cattle, pigs and chickens. Alternatively, most of us could not hunt and fish for all our animal protein. Most of us could not grow all the vegetables and fruit we will eat. Most of us could not grow flax and wooly sheep, spin our own yarn and weave our own cloth to make our own garments.
I believe that most of us, at some point, would need to buy more of the basics no matter how well we had stocked up. Which is fine, because a six to twelve-month supply of the basics plus whatever we can buy during that time to supplement the basics will probably be enough to get us through whatever hard times may happen next.
I recommend that anyone who is preparing for hard times, stock up on the materials necessary to repair clothing. New clothing was tightly rationed during WWII and it was unaffordable for many during the Great Depression. Of necessity, people learned to repair and re-style their used clothing to make do and keep up appearances. And when a garment became too worn in places to repair, the cloth was cut down and the good pieces used to make children's clothing or quilts.
To repair your clothing you will need some basic supplies such as needles designed for hand sewing, the kinds of threads designed for hand sewing, iron-on patches, 100% cotton broadcloth in neutral colors (white, black gray, brown..) to use as patches and perhaps, for those with sewing machines, a good supply of machine thread, bobbins, extra machine needles, machine oil, yards of cloth and sewing patterns. And perhaps buy a basic beginner book on how to repair clothing (both Amazon and eBay have thousands of new and used books for sale) and also one on how to use a sewing machine if you have a hand-me-down machine you do not know how to use.

Take a day and peruse the books at Goodwill or Half Price Books. Always good to have hard copies in case there is a power failure.
I love those terra ant liquid bait containers.l get these heavy duty plastic mouse traps you put peanut butter in the cup part and pull lever up and when mouse comes it gets its nose to push up the cover that has peanut butter in and down comes the lever and gets them every time.😄l bought them at walmart and my hardware store.little more expensive but they last forever.not breaking like the wooden older type ones.🙂
Great video AG! I need to work on getting an alternate source of cooking. I wanted to suggest that everyone add a bottle of lavender essential oil to their preps. It is calming during stressful times, and is fantastic at taking the itch out of insect bites. I use it often as I seem to be a magnet for mosquitoes!

I picked up a couple of the cheap Dollar Tree ankle and wrist supports, and have always kept 'Ace' bandages. I also have A&D Ointment, as it is good for irritations and some folks are allergic to topical antibiotic ointment, (one of my sons, for instance). It is unfortunate that the old Johnson&Johnson beeswax ointment was discontinued. I also have hemorrhoid ointment, because stress can cause that problem.
Cornstarch body and foot powders will come in handy, and it is already in short supply.
First Costco runs out of evaporated milk, now our Walmart is out of GV evaporated milk. 😮. What is going on? I bought some Nido with the intention of making my own. We use it a lot for baking.
I like the Nido powdered milk. It works great in recipes.
I will never go without Louisiana brand hot sauce. It can make almost everything edible. It won't work for oatmeal though 😂. We have a decent supply of everything else but I do wish we had more solar power
I have to have Franks hot sauce. My MIL loves the Louisiana also.
Texas Pete hot sauce has my vote. I grew up with it. A dash of Texas Pete in almost any meat recipe will add a punch of spice without burning your mouth. Also, just the tiniest bit of plain old yellow mustard sauce in stews (and even in deviled eggs) brightens the flavor.

With the medical supplies you buy, do a check every 6 months or so because just like food, they can go out of date and then you won't have them when you need them
If not on septic system then bag of concrete to block off any backflow of sewage into locations, once power out sewer plant stops working but flow continues & will back up quickly..

Excellent list AG. I'm so glad I have most of those items, (some are different in the UK.) Not only handy for Emergencies, but we are loosing so many Shops this Year, an awful lot have gone into administration. They were the shops I relied on to get some of these items, so it was a good thing I got more in.

I love the Compleats. Add a piece of butter bread, and that's all you need for a meal. They are cheap too.
A tip for cooking your Compleats - open the top all the way back, sit on a paper plate and then put the top back down on it loosely and put anther paper plate on top. Cook for two minutes instead of one minute!!! Be careful because it’s very hot! It makes the meats cook through more and makes the mashed potatoes taste so much better. I learned this from a man doing a review on Amazon!! ❤😊 we love the chili with beans and crumble a couple of saltines on top with a dash of hot sauce.
Hi AG. I wanted to tell you that a few covid years ago, I began following you and one of those vids still comforts my heart. It had to do with making up simple 1 gallon storage baggies of 3-4 items that make-up a quick, easy meal with an index card inserted with brief directions.The kind of handy meals that works well during super stressed times. Cannot recall the exact video (or 2?). I still have my 2 big plastic totes with those easy peasy no brains required meals. I have dared not touch them...yet. Idea: maybe do a re-play of those vids?? IDK. Anyway, thanks a million!!!
I am so glad you found my videos useful. I like your description, a few covid years ago! I have made several videos of meals in a bag or shelf meals. Maybe I should make a play list for them.
And all of the wonderful long term food. Realistically, you can't get enough to last you a life time. Ok, even if you could, chances are that you may lose it all. That's the reality of crazy times. What you have as a back up, is your back up. It's for the times you can't get anything else, the absolute emergency. Once the last can is opened, the last pound of rice eaten, there is nothing left. Therefore, you try not to use it as much as possible because if you can't replace it, that's it. Once it's gone it's gone.

Love your sense of humor Undead. Storing rolls of toilet paper can soon become space-prohibitive in a small house like mine. However, boxes of the toilet paper “coins” that can be ordered on line is a good solution and take up very little space in comparison with storing regular toilet paper rolls. Speaking of hygiene, don’t forget to stock up on lots of sturdy garbage bags.

I understand that there maybe another lockdown like event, but I am more practical. With the Clorox hack, even things like ranch dressing and kitty litter are in shorter shupply because they make other products than just bleach. I prep well for my animals so I don't have to go out whenever someone decides to have a shutdown for ransonware. Some with other products. All of a sudden the big brother wants to get rid of sudafed? Got it. People want to hoard rice because of worldwide fear? Already got some. For someone who thinks prepers have flipped their lids, are you scrambling for bleach or cat litter? I'm not. Prep for short term real life sceanarios.
I agree with you. We live by the coast and I’ve (hubby has joined in more since 2020) been stocking up on supplies and necessities for at least the last fifteen years. During the lockdown, we had plenty of TP and PT, canned goods, water, batteries and toiletries. We rarely went out to the stores and then only to get fresh produce and some meat or chicken. Just add a few prep items each shopping trip to your cart when shopping- it all adds up and pretty quickly too!

Extra trash 🗑 bags for waste
I just went through everything and had to toss really expired items. When I first began to prep I didn't think about the expiration date. Here we are nearly 3 years later and now I look at the expiration date on everything.
Some of the things you talk about don't last that long.
Speaking of critters, several years ago I was told 2 things: 1) silverfish, ect. don't like bay leaves, so I scattered bay leaves in all my cabinets, ALL of them and I haven't seen a single one. 2) spray lemon or lavender room spray in coat closet, garage, laundry room, outdoor storage, and even in the trunk of your car to repell mice and other critters.
Also, these are things we never had to deal with when I was growing up, so why are we dealing with them now. Anyone have a answer?
Some of the pantry bug issues depend on where you live. Warmer climates have more problems than cold climates, in my experience.
I've worked on medical supplies, food of various kinds whether eat out of the can or needs cooking. Considering the treachery I have seen the last three years and with winter coming up I think a small heater with a 20 gal tank makes sense. It was cold in TN last winter.
Time is running out
When it comes to keeping the lights on and comms working;
I have a 500 Watt small Solar System. By NO means can it power my home, however, it DOES keep my usb Flashlights going, 12 Volt L.E.D. room lights going, and the Ham radio Station. We heat our home with kerosene as our House is NOT setup for a wood stove. I'm working on securing more of this fuel with the hopes of getting a Two Year Supply.
Cooking has been well Handled as we have Two of the Butane Camp Stoves and more that 100 fuel canisters for them.
We won't be able to run the Microwave, or the Laundry, but we set a drying rack in the living room and the Kerosene eater can then do double duty in that it will dry the clothing and keep us warm. We CAN wash our clothes the old fashioned way like the Pioneers did-NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

Love your reminders. I have been trying plain not cooked oatmeal in milk to help with Is cholesterol & its not too bad. That's a multi use pantry stable. I'll be checking numbers in 2 weeks.😅

Look up all the recipes for overnight oats. No power needed and lots of good ideas. I also saw a recipe for falafel in which the chickpeas were just soaked overnight. I was skeptical, tried it and it is a keeper recipe.

My Heater went out the End if December, 2022
I had thought i would get a Mr Buddy in October and the Canisters of Fuel.
Well I am glad I did. I ended up using it until May. Well I was glad Mr Buddy was at my House. I had to Block off an area to keep warm, which was my Livingroom, I had a Clay Pot Heater in the Bathroom. It worked well. Just have to keep it going to keep the bathroom warm.

Good point on the foods that can be eaten right out of the package. I have more long term stuff, plenty of disposable wares to eat off of if I can't spare water to clean dishes, and ways to cook without power, but will start gathering more of the pre cooked food items you suggested in this video, thank you!
It is important to have the easy foods. A hectic day can be an emergency if we can't get a quick meal on the table!
Really good ideas, I just hope people will see your video and think about not having the essentials if something happens. Now is the time to stock up for winter. The “experts” are saying the winter of 2024 will be very bad. One of my old teachers used to say “a word to the wise is sufficient”.
The more of us who prepare the better off we all will be.

I planted a very extensive herb garden which has areas for culinary, tra and medicinal plants. It has been so hot my veggie garden hasn't produced much (yet) but herbs supply lots for the dehydrator.

Loved the video. Im gonna show my ignorance, but with the little buddy heater does it need to be in a well ventilated room?
Yes all the Buddy Heaters need to be used only in a well ventilated area. On the box they recommend that if you attach the Buddy Heater to a 5 gallon propane tank, to run the hose to the tank so that the propane tank remains outdoors.
I believe the rule of thumb is 1 sq inch for every 1000 BTU's. So if your running the Big Buddy heater (18k BTU) full out, you'll want 18 square inches. Half of that for the little buddy.
Add duct tape, tarps, nails,screws, extra plywood.(broken windows)
Also batteries, cable ties, bungee cords.

Water and coffee 👍👍👍 it's hard to actually think if you never went to the store again but then I think back to when families moved out West for the first time and there were no stores. A lot of trading posts basically robbed you or were robbed and so you couldn't rely on them. You really had to take care of yourself. No hospitals, restaurants or sometimes other people for a really long time. I'm basing my preparedness on that.
