Love these!!! I am new to sewing. I started late in life, in my 50s. I have been trying to make quilts for my grandchildren and doing a bad job of it. These templates and tutorial videos have made all the difference. Thank you so much!! I enjoy sewing so much now!!

These templates are fantastic. Lee, ingenious, and I love that it is a pdf that can be printed in so many sizes. I used the 3" to make HST's for a baby quilt (to make star block). I purchased newsprint on amazon 500 sheets for $6 and change. They print and sew beautifully. Note that some printers might be persnickity. Just love this. I did put a bit of glue on opposite corners to hold base layer still (v. printing)--top layer nestled fine on top. Thank you so much for the creativity and utility of this excellent product.

Thank you. How or why does the paper stay with the fabric without pins or glue? When do you cut the wings off?

I just hold all three layers into place - if they shift around a tiny bit it doesn't matter, since you're trimming after sewing. But if you would like to pin them all together you can. And once the first seam is sewn, that holds everything together. I don't bother trimming off the dog ears, but you certainly can! If you're trimming dog ears, I would do it after the paper is removed, either before or after you press.

Hi. So I bought this and I think you might have your page numbers wrong. Also I am confused on finished sizes. According to your chart page 8 is 1.5 finished and 2 unfinished but when I goto page 8 it shows 1 inch finished. Is this an error or am I not reading this right? Same goes for every other size. I just made page 10 2 inch finished and they came out 2.5 finished 😫. Help. Is there an updated version? Mine is copyrighted 2018
I just made the 1.5 finished from page 9. It finished 2 inches. 💁‍♀️

Hi Melissa - the page numbers as listed in the table of contents are off as counted by Adobe Acrobat, because I did not count the cover as page 1 and Acrobat does. But my page numbering on the pages themselves is correct, and the finished/unfinished sizes as listed at the top of each template page is correct! Also I just want to be sure you are aware of what "finished" versus "unfinished" means in quilting-many people don't realize what those terms actually mean in quilting. "Finished" means the size of the unit after it is SEWN INTO THE QUILT. So the finished size is the size WITHOUT the seam allowance. "Unfinished" means the size of the unit prior to sewing it into the quilt, so it's the size WITH seam allowance. I list both finished and unfinished sizes for each template because some patterns use finished sizes and others use unfinished sizes. I can't tell from your comment if you needed 2" units with seam allowance or without. If you needed 2" finished (without seam allowance), and your units are 2.5" before you sew them to anything else, you did it correctly! I hope this helps! Here's a link with a few more details about finished vs. unfinished: www.alandacraft.com/2017/09/15/finished-block-vs-unfinished-block-understanding-the-difference/#:~:text=An%20unfinished%20block%20is%20the,the%20block%20minus%20the%20seam

I am making a scrappy quilt and don’t want 12 hst of the same fabric. Can I cut them in strips and make only 4 at a time?

    • @leeheinrich3003

Yes, you sure can! Just trim the templates down to the size you want (chop off however many you don't want).

Is there a problem with inkjet ink running? Or is it better to print one template and photocopy the number that I need? I hope my question makes sense.

I only have a laser printer, so I haven't tested these on an inkjet myself. But these templates been around for several years and I've never had anyone tell me they've had a problem with inkjet ink running. And since you're not pressing them with the paper still on or getting them wet, I can't imagine that would be a problem.
