Just bought one and , followed instructions to fill hydraulic fluid 11/2 gl. Then run 5 cycles without a load then check and fill to mark ,i did that and actually took 2 gls. And no foam runs good!!

I just got one and had the same problem. It took 2 full gallons to get fluid level to register 3/8" on the dipstick. I wrote the company that sold it, Great Circle US. Waiting for a response, but you're right, with 2 full gallons, fluid level is just where the filler tube neck meets the tank when I look in with a small, narrow flashlight, and it runs fine. Split 2-5" logs with no issues, and no foam.

Hey I have the same super handy splitter. Is it normal to foam up? Mine does it as well. Thanks man.

It's normal for it to foam up because of the design but it's not a good thing. Foamy hydraulic fluid is a bad thing! You will get excessive heat buildup, less pressure and will prematurely destroy hydraulic components.
    It's a poor design.

Did you try to level it, or to put the wedge part a bit higher? It could solve the foaming problem.
