  • My trusty '67 Fastwin that I built to use on this boat. Have not had it on the water since the preseason pond run. It never disappoints me.

    When i was a kid in Michigan parents had a summer place at the lake, a teen had what we referred to a flipper boat maybe 10 ft and fiberglass. He had a 18 hp Evinrude on the back and it would fly across the water. I've always Evinrude get motors, sad that the company no longer exist.

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  4 месяца назад

      That's very cool! The boat you refer to is probably actually a "flivver" boat. Very small, lightweight fiberglass skiff typically about 8.5 feet long. Fairly commonly outfitted with 15-25hp motors. They're definitely fast movers with enough power on them to plane off. I'd love to have one myself. I am a big fan of Evinrude motors myself and agree, it is sad they are no longer in business. Thanks for watching!

    Hello sir, love these videos. I restored my grandpa's 79 Johnson 15 and have put about 20 hours on it this summer, and have kind of fell down the old outboard rabbit hole. I'm intriged by your pulley steer system, it looks like it could be a fun project for one of our dingy boats. Do you have any references for building the system?

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you! I have the Evinrude version of your Johnson 15. Excellent motors. One of my keepers that I plan to always have. The old outboard rabbit hole is an easy one to fall down, it seems. I know I did. I have a video in this channel that outlines the build of my remote controls in this Aerocraft P-12. Check it out if you're interested. Thanks for watching!

      @@oldjohnnyrude8404 Appreciate it man, I love the motor. Runs smooth and pushes my 14ft v-hull at 21mph. It had been put in storage about 15 years ago with a spun prop and bad fuel pump/lines. Easy enough fix :). I found the build vid, thanks!

      @@travisblake1222 They're great motors. Glad it was an easy fix. The 9.9/15 motors do need their own steering cable connector bracket and control cable anchors from the majority of the classic OMC motor design. Those parts are available. Marineengine.com probably will still carries the parts.

      Yessir! This thing gets down for an 18hp. There aren't many 20s it won't hang with. I'm running a Michigan Wheel PJ18 9.25x11P three blade aluminum prop on this motor. Thanks for watching, Dale!

    Hi there.
    We chatted before. Re 3.3 HP Johnson 1991. I have since been told, the 1991 3.3 HP is a rebadged tohatsu and all parts are interchangeable, except for fuel tank, and cowling. ??

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  4 месяца назад +1

      From what I can tell, this is correct. It appears that the 1991 Johnson 3.3hp outboard is a rebadged Tohatsu. Also included in the rebadged Tohatsus are the 3.3hp Evinrude and the 3.3.3hp Mercury. There are some unique parts to each one, but theyre mechanically the same. That being the case, parts availability should not be an issue. It should be a good motor. Most people I have talked to that own Tohatsus have good things to say about them. Thanks for watching!

    Seems to perform the same as the 73 Johnson 25hp

    • @oldjohnnyrude8404
      @oldjohnnyrude8404  4 месяца назад +1

      Very very similar performance. The Johnson seemed to hold a slightly higher average speed into the wind than this one by maybe 0.5mph. With the wind it was JUST above 29mph, and the Johnson was JUST under 30mph according to my Garmin watch GPS. These two runs made me wish I had brought my '72 Johnson 25hp out to compare also. Thanks for watching!
