At this point what I’ve realized after listening to this spectacular album multiple times is that saying nas has the crown is a moot point. He had it in his hand, broke it into pieces, sprinkled it on the floor and took the staircase up to his rightful place. Set fire to the throne that is no more. He sits in a place that takes 10,000 steps up for an MC to get to him. Lost for words for how incredible this album is. Disagree, respectfully. Here's why: Recession proof: 4/5? That's a grimy banger, read: get at me dog by X. It would have rung off at the tunnel! Verdict: 5/5 Get light: 4.5/5? That's a classic NY sound, break beat. Block party special. Verdict: 5/5 Giving Don't shoot less than 5 because it's too short is wild! It's a 5 record. Nasty beat switch too... Edit: Just checking that Don't Shoot is 2:32, 30 is 2:18. Letting that beat ride out on 30 is genius level shit by Hit... Overall verdict: 5 mics.
I already let it be known how I feel about this album being album of the year. I just wanted to tell Mike that Michael and Quincy perspective is accurate AF! I never thought about that dating back to KD1. We always referred to Nas as Mike and Hit as Quincy but it’s definitely the opposite. Nas is 100% Quincy and Hitboy is 100% Mike. Nas is the OG to Hitboy just like how Quincy was to Mike. Good shit man
I didn't think KD 3 would be better than Magic because I thought Nas would go back commercial and disappoint... but I was wrong this was the best hip-hop albums I've heard in years!
Mike/Coop, I just noticed that y'all about to hit 10k subscribers. I'm proud OF/FOR y'all. Keep growing. I would superchat more, buy more merch, etc. but funds are volatile. KD3 is 🍌🍌 and your coverage of the music is flawless, observations about the industry are insightful and your shows are informative and entertaining. It's about time for another Coop's Top Five List too.
This album is impressive!!! I stumbled across you guys on RUclips a few weeks ago when Nas announced his album release date. I love this podcast because you all keep it 💯 when it comes to the music. Salute to you guys!!! ✊🏼
Remember in NBA Jamz back in the day, if you made 3 shots in a row, the commentator said, “He’s on fire!” Nas and Hit-Boy are saying on the track” I’m On Fire” that KD, KDII, and Magic were 3 shots in a row. They’re on fire!!
Way to catch that! Can you also hear the actual “He’s on fire!” sample from the actual NBA Jamz game under the vocals? This song and album is a true game changer for Hip Hop.
Tried listening to other podcast….. you guys are the truth! I’m tried of Nas fans at this point or “so-called” Nas fans. This album provides everything. Nostalgia of KD1, song structure and quality of KD2, and lyricism of Magic. He also sprinkled a little IWW and Stillmatic in there. Nas has nothing left to prove or really do musically at this point. If you claim to be a fan and dislike this album Nas might not be for you.
I know we all praise the past. But the beauty of this time period is an album this good can come out and we can all get together and praise it the next day. I can’t lie I didn’t expect too much from KD3 because I was like ok another Nas and Hitboy album but this might be my fav Nas album ever.
The cigar had me dying! I did the same thing the night the album was coming out. Bought some cognac, too, woke up before midnight anticipating the release.
Dope show Mike & Coop and awesome breakdown of KD3. I listened to the album twice so I'm gonna run it back some more and you guys hit on alot of good points but sheesh A2HH come get your man Nas cause he out here going CRAZY lol. Its like he ran down on me with KD3 like the blicky and was like yo Leroy what you say bout me Thun? I'm like whoa whoa chill Esco I told Coop I'ma stream the album I was just saying you know Illmatic like the rap bible and you being Godson and all its like It was all written... Then Hitboy pulled up yelling like the sample on the 2nd song of the album so I had to run just to make it out alive to get to the show today 😆 But seriously phenomenal album and Nas checked all the boxes, got in his conceptual bag like I hoped he would and what Coop was saying about the perspective Nas has lyrically is key cause he is saying a whole lot in terms of content and giving you a whole point of view this time. Hitboy with the beat flips and soul samples and blending in the modern sounds etc all FIRE. So yeah dope shit, tell Nas I don't want no smoke lol and I'm gonna try to call Rocafella headquarters and see if Jay can drop something before the next Roc Nation brunch like F the turkey bacon right now cause Nas out here trippin lol. Shout out to everybody in the chat and till next time✌
@@sinematic06 I thought about it earlier but Jay stretches musically and I just dope think Hip Hop appreciates that. I think they wanna be able to predict what he's gonna give them and then get that. Jay has never telegraphed his next sound that's why every album folks always say he has no other sound he can do lol. Jay always goes in a new direction you don't expect then when people get that they just mad its not a version of him they wanted. I don't think he's in it just to give folks what they want if he feels like he's already done that particular style but I'll keep my fingers crossed cause I know just a moment of inspiration is all it takes for Jay to go in 🔥.
@@leroygreen6310 right, I agree with that. Jay has never gone in a direction I thought I could predict ahead of time. But yeah when that dude is inspired he goes IN. I remember him lighting up the mixtapes leading up to the Black Album. A special time. I think Jay is recording something as we speak. I can’t wait to hear it. Nas & Jay are 2 my fav artist/emcees of all time and to witness where they’re both at in 2022 is just insane. Like 2023 and beyond, there’s potential for both of them to drop new projects. The fact that it’s not over. We are in uncharted territory with these guys. And I’m loving it
Appreciate y’all doing this album its proper justice! We are witnessing history right now and this is just something we gotta enjoy because we may never see this again
The album is a masterpiece. It's reputation will only grow with the passage of time. It's the best produced album of the year. The best sequencing. Nas is the pinnacle of MCing in 2022. He's lyrical. He's charismatic. He's nostalgic. He's provocative. He's insightful. He's relatable. He does everything except mumble his rhymes. Great concepts. Great subject matter. Great storytelling. Cadences. Techniques. Flows. Breath control. Literary devices. He is literally "On Fire".
Another great episode guys the most passionate one I’ve been a part of in terms of reverence for an artist’s work. Y’all doing what the major publications aren’t, actually reviewing a good body of work and not overhyping commercial BS. Nas has delivered the album of the year dat I say again and has proven once and for all over the past 2.5years who the true goat emcee is. Nas did again✊🏾💯 and hov ain’t happy lol when it comes to hip-hop gotta give it all you got, Nasir the goat on top.
Great Pete Rock produced albums in the last decade - 80 Blocks From Tiffany's 1&2 with Camp Lo, Monumental with Smiff N Wessun, Don't Smoke Rock with Smoke Dza and Retropolitan with Skyzoo 🔥 And what 9th Wonder did for Little Brother's The Listening, Minstrel Show and Murs 316, Murray's Revenge, Fornever, Skyzoo's Cloud 9 and Dream Merchant Vol 1&2 are some of my favorite beats ever🔥
Love Hitboy but to put him top 10 based on only 4 albums in a space of 2 years compared to the likes of Pete Rock who's been relevant since the late 80s or early 90s is a bit wild.
It's literally a master rapper and innovative producer battling each other one one Album...but in the end they morph together...and this Classic is the result. Both are trying new things, without loosing the core NaS sound. This is "The Blueprint" of NaS....how to make a album that sounds modern without going into pop drill synth digital beats.
Coop thank you for all the pressure u put on the media weasels who playing politic games who never were or no longer qualified and properly utilizing your hip hop cultural knowledge/insight with INTEGRITY. Mike D got the pulse on the culture and is as objective as an analysis in media. Super support for A2HH from this way. If the plug sees it u know it’ll land on his desk at some point. Ppl are paying attention bc it’s authentic and it’s shaking trees. Salute !
I’m pissed I missed this live! I was busy when y’all aired. I am beyond impressed with what Nas and Hit Boy just did. My wife has been hearing about this album ad nausea. 😂 This album was something else!
You guys are the best doin it. I'm from Jersey and I'm from the era so we appreciate the break down and accurate assessment of artists and their work. Nas has been my G.O.A.T from Illmatic. I remember the messiah like aura surrounding him b4 the album debut. This trilogy is his reclamation and he is finally comfortable with his position.
I'm from Brooklyn east New York and hot 97 been doing this since da late 90s they want artists to kiss there ass for radio play fck hot 97 like ghostface said at summer jam.
My favourite bar on this album comes from Once a Man,twice a child “What’s meant for you is always sent to you/ But you could be the problem, it’s not always them, my dude. Was she crazy before you met her or you made her crazy/ possibly she’ll turn to a nurse when you’re back to a baby” I’m 28 and I recently got back with my girl (who’s a keeper that almost got away) and I found this resonates with me heavily and is something I try to keep in mind every day in my relationship with my partner. Esp at moments when we have silly arguments that leave me struggling to love this person in spite of how angry they made me in the moment. I think it’s easy to say my girl has her crazy moments but it’s important to question the part we personally played in our partner’s response. I generally consider myself reasonable, fair and for the most part self-aware but this one truly made me take a hard look at myself and my actions toward my girl frfr NAS Love from Nigeria, King! 🇳🇬
I like a lot of tracks, but I’m on fire is just special. It just stands out. I’m getting ennio morricone vibes. It’s just beautiful. Also love 30, ghetto reporter, legit & thun so far.
Respectfully, I think the time has passed for Nas/Preemo album. Not because of Nas, but I don't know if my man Preem is making heat that makes me lust for a full Preem produced Nas album. Especially after we've seen this refreshed Nas with Hit . Preem's style of boombap with signature scratched hooks as soundscapes are too relegated nyc 90s timb booted, army jacketed, champion hooded aesthetic. Nas as a artist and man has evolved to needing more versatility than what Preem provides these days imo . The idea is more nostalgic than anything .
I went thru the comments section only one comment about Jay-Z finally Nas gets his flowers def it's a W when it doesn't end up being about Jay-Z getting more love instead of Nas. Stans you've caught up to Nas level of grace 👏🙏👏 that's when blessings come.

Coop you just drop the Mic with that!Nas already was the goat/ now after this,he's the Michael Jordan!i don't argue with people when they say someone is better than MJ so just put Nas by himself then just compare just all the other Emcees without speaking on Nas because he is on another PLANET!
Album is bananaz. I thought Gibbs had it but Nas blew that out of the water. Album even exceeded my expectations. Nas and Hit delivered in a major way.
Coop… you are wildin!!! with the Premo take. Hard To Earn and Daily Operation are both classics and you completely ignored how masterful Premo was in Livin’ Proof.
On the song Thun Nas say something like what's beef when Ether is played on Tidal in my Range Rover listening to take over texting Hova laughing like this shit aint Over!DOPE.
I think they forgot or omitted that Premo produced The Sun Rises in The East and Wrath of the Math within that Gang Starr run. I would argue that TSRITE is his second best produced album.
Mike & Coop...........yall ever heard of ALCHEMIST? MADLIB? PHARRELL? WTF & SMH!!! Each has whole album work. But dont get amnesia. Salute to Hitboy. He's proving his greatness. Just cut it out with this prisoner of moment stuff. Place him after those 3. LOL!!
This Album Runs From Track 1-17 So Smoothly….On My Tidal App it goes from Ghetto Reporter & Before I know’it It Goes to The Fugees Classic…Ready Or Not…I thought HIT BOI & Nas Flipped That Classic…I was Dammit Boi that Album um um Classic Album Iz Gary Coleman/Webster Smooth Skin Smooth with a Hint Of Billy D Williams Smooth, Sunn….I’ve listened to This Album 5+ Times without No Skips, Not even 1….Shook 1’s on Now after Ready Or Not…..I’m going for my 7th Listen….Peace To Mike and Coop and Leroy Green….in my Charlie Murphy Voice
@@ArmLegLegArmHead47 you can’t just say this is better than stillmatic. Lyrically stillmatic is on another level. Style wise and originality kd3 is not stillmatic. Stillmatic is a classic, kd3 is hard but let’s give it time. For me it’s not like stillmatic. Stillmatic is undeniable
Here’s a bulletin board of media members/entities that salt Nas from my vantage point as follows: cold 97, coward 105, pitchfork, rolling stone, xxl, the no-source, rap jaydar (obviously), bleek (obviously), Joe budden (been a fan since mood muzik but he always downplays nas on the podcast or anyone associated with mass appeal a la Dave east) and whoever else is in line shading nas. There’s more, and they’ll keep revealing themselves. Note that Jay Z and Nas are my two favorite MCs all time, just needs to be some level of fairness or objectivity in media. Giving nas flowers is not dissing jay-z. One SHOULDNT have anything to do with the other. Do better !
In all reality. If they're downplaying Nas for whatever reason, they ain't hip hop nor part of the culture. In that case, they don't even matter. If they fail to recognize Nas of all people then they are not honest people. At the end of the day it's all about the art form. Real artist only do it as a form of expression. It's the higher ups who take and alter things but we have to stand behind our true artists so we can continue to have good music to listen to.
@@antwanwilliamsAkrimoneyAkiApac for sure. I’m of the mind that nas doesn’t and never did care tbh. If he went at corporations, why would he on the other hand care who play his music or support him. He is going to make music from a place of inspiration. That’s what the greats have always done. It’s just now with social media it’s more obvious and blatant there’s a media driven agenda and it can’t be hid anymore so fans and just hip hop ppl in general are saying enough. Nas isn’t losing sleep regardless.
Coop, you missed the opportunity to quote Once a Man, Twice a Child when you were talking about Get Light being 91 Nasty Nas TODAY… “my OLD style is a rougher my NEW style” !!
Not sure it was noticed but andre 3000 was at nas listening party .. It’s a flick up with them together. Hopefully he gets inspired and makes music since he used the age excuse thinking it’s not cool to rap. Maybe on Wednesday’s show it can be discussed bc it’s interesting why he was there and not on the corner playing the flute.
Unfortunately Nas missed the Grammy cut for the next ceremony. But he should definitely win it even if the Grammys don’t matter this perfect piece of work deserves that award ABSOLUTELY
One correction when ye said Hit Boy produced 4 great albums in 2 years. Its 6. Benny the Butchers Burden of Proof and Judas and the Black Messiah: The Inspired album are both Hit Boy. Also dont forget Pete Rock produced Ini Center of Attention in 95. On a side note "My First Time" is my favourite song off KD 3. I put KD3 right behind Magic but only because i have Magic as a solid 10
At this point what I’ve realized after listening to this spectacular album multiple times is that saying nas has the crown is a moot point. Here's why:
Recession proof: 4/5?
That's a grimy banger, read: get at me dog by X. It would have rung off at the tunnel!
Verdict: 5/5
Get light: 4.5/5?
That's a classic NY sound, break beat. Block party special.
Verdict: 5/5
Giving Don't shoot less than 5 because it's too short is wild!
It's a 5 record. Nasty beat switch too...
Edit: Just checking that Don't Shoot is 2:32, 30 is 2:18.
Letting that beat ride out on 30 is genius level shit by Hit...
Overall verdict: 5 mics.
@@saps2901 fair, the album still classic overall
Dis tops magic n Dat says alot
Nas going this hard at this point is so admirable. This man is supposed to be relaxing but the passion makes that impossible. The true rap 🐐 for real🔥
Nasir is bigger than GOAT topic...He's on MJ prince seat for the culture
@@BlazeP4P Yup! I heard it and that’s what caught me and took me back to that game! 😂
This episode and the Album release party was epic!!!
This album was fire arguably the best 1 with magic and coop over there sipping on some 1942 with the cigar 🤣😂🤣
The cigar had me dying! I did the same thing the night the album was coming out. Bought some cognac, too, woke up before midnight anticipating the release.
Nas is the Thanos of HipHop. Other rappers act like they got it but only Nas has all 5 infinite stone's. #
Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones Earth salutes you
You’re right He’s the one everyone’s trying to take out ✊🏾

I cannot stop listening to KD3, great episode, this was a celebration 🍾🍾🍾🔥🔥🔥🔥
2 days ago magic was my favorite album
Mike and Coop there's no problem over here with NAS being the G.O.A.T ....
Straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
HE SAID IT, "SOONER OR LATER YALL SEE WHO THE PROPHET IS!"
💯💯💯💯🔥
The release session was one for the books! Just dope music and dope vibes.
Man hitboy solidifies um Nas as the G.O.A.T there's no question about it period
Dope show Mike & Coop and awesome breakdown of KD3. I listened to the album twice so I'm gonna run it back some more and you guys hit on alot of good points but sheesh A2HH come get your man Nas cause he out here going CRAZY lol. Its like he ran down on me with KD3 like the blicky and was like yo Leroy what you say bout me Thun? I'm like whoa whoa chill Esco I told Coop I'ma stream the album I was just saying you know Illmatic like the rap bible and you being Godson and all its like It was all written... Then Hitboy pulled up yelling like the sample on the 2nd song of the album so I had to run just to make it out alive to get to the show today 😆
But seriously phenomenal album and Nas checked all the boxes, got in his conceptual bag like I hoped he would and what Coop was saying about the perspective Nas has lyrically is key cause he is saying a whole lot in terms of content and giving you a whole point of view this time. Shout out to everybody in the chat and till next time✌
😀😀😀 we've just gained another Nas fan. I like how you broke it down. We respect your opinion my guy 🤝🏾🤝🏾
Now you straight whyling, my man!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 dope comment, man I’m hype for Jay to drop a classic album too. They push each other. In the end we all win.
And I’m loving it
KD1 to Me is a EXCELLENT Album. One of My Favorites
10 points, the definition, and blue benz is my shit
Nas did again✊🏾💯 and hov ain’t happy lol
when it comes to hip-hop gotta give it all you got, Nasir the goat on top.
Reminisce,Thun and um 30 top 3 but so many songs on this Album is amazing 👏 🎉 Nas is Timeless 👑 Rap music Hip-Hop G.O.A.T
Distant Relatives is a classic too… 10
it's unfortunate that many don't understand Damien marely
Distant Relatives > Any Jay collabo album..non debateable 😂😂

THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! NAS IS THE 🐐
It's literally a master rapper and innovative producer battling each other one one Album...but in the end they morph together...and this Classic is the result. Both are trying new things, without loosing the core NaS sound.
This is "The Blueprint" of NaS....how to make a album that sounds modern without going into pop drill synth digital beats.
Legit is crazy the beat is crazy
Coop thank you for all the pressure u put on the media weasels who playing politic games who never were or no longer qualified and properly utilizing your hip hop cultural knowledge/insight with INTEGRITY. Mike D got the pulse on the culture and is as objective as an analysis in media. Super support for A2HH from this way. If the plug sees it u know it’ll land on his desk at some point. Please can we just say Nas is the 🐐.....
Wow.
My favourite bar on this album comes from Once a Man,twice a child
“What’s meant for you is always sent to you/ But you could be the problem, it’s not always them, my dude. Was she crazy before you met her or you made her crazy/ possibly she’ll turn to a nurse when you’re back to a baby”
I’m 28 and I recently got back with my girl (who’s a keeper that almost got away) and I found this resonates with me heavily and is something I try to keep in mind every day in my relationship with my partner. Esp at moments when we have silly arguments that leave me struggling to love this person in spite of how angry they made me in the moment. I think it’s easy to say my girl has her crazy moments but it’s important to question the part we personally played in our partner’s response. I generally consider myself reasonable, fair and for the most part self-aware but this one truly made me take a hard look at myself and my actions toward my girl frfr
NAS Love from Nigeria, King!

Nas & hit boy needs another b4 preemo & nas..at dis point
I went thru the comments section only one comment about Jay-Z finally Nas gets his flowers def it's a W when it doesn't end up being about Jay-Z getting more love instead of Nas. Stans you've caught up to Nas level of grace 👏🙏👏 that's when blessings come.
