Villa María Lodge: Giant Rio Grande Sea-Run Brown Trout

Villa María Lodge is located on the historic 110,000-acre Estancia José Menendez. The ranch was established in 1896 for the purpose of raising sheep. Today, our fishing operation occupies the charming farmhouses that once hosted upwards of 48 ranch workers. The Villa María fishery includes the lower section of the Río Grande-near the ocean estuary-where 20 miles of private water is split between no more than six anglers during any given week. Coursing through this valley is one of the most celebrated anadromous fish on Earth: The bright, powerful Rio Grande giant sea-run brown trout.
