- Southwest Airlines has a decades-long history of supporting our military and families of those in the service. Recently, the son of one of our Southwest Families was lost in a tragic Marine Corp helicopter crash, along with four other Marines. With the focus on the military and supporting each other, it was our People jumped right in to make things happen so we could all deliver a final salute to Marine Sgt. Alec Langen inside one of our hangars, a place he was destined to work after serving in the Marines.

So Southwest's people made sure that Freedom One was the aircraft that brought this Marine home and made all of the other arrangements for this lovely hangar send-off. Knowing what I know about Southwest's practices, none of this is surprising. It's the way they are; it's what they do. There's a reason SWA is one of my favorite airlines and the favorite of millions of others too. RIP Sergeant, and thank you for your service.

I agree. I am an FO for a legacy carrier in the United States, a competitor of Southwest, But it would be a lie to say that I don’t respect and love southwest as an airline and company. If Southwest was a wide body operator, they would have been my first choice of employment. As far as I’m concerned, there is not a Major company that treats their employees like SWA does. I envy southwest for having the image and quality that United does not have.

I didn't know Alec, and I didn't fly for Southwest, but this brought a tear to my eye. I pray that he has heard the words, "well done, good and faithful servant."
One of the many reasons my wife and I fly Southwest. God's blessings to him, his Marine comrades, and his family. Well done, good and faithful servant.
I had the honor of being present when a fallen hero returned home on a Southwest flight back in 2015 as a contractor for an aircraft ground support company. They shut down their entire operation, had everyone come out and line up before the plane came in. They had only the required ramp agents to bring in the plane and once it was set up for the fallen hero to come off, they joined the rest who was lined up. From then on the US Army honor guard took over. In nearly 20 years in aviation and it's the most moving thing I have ever experienced. Bravo Zulu to Southwest for always showing such respect for the fallen. My prayers are with Sergeant Alec Langen's family and the families of the rest of the Sea King crew. Semper Fildelis and rest easy Marines.

Often in Chicago at Midway, we would try to have veterans (who were employees) help the honor guard. (we would also make sure the ground vehicles were silenced and hats were removed out of respect.) At the time I worked there (2004-2019) many on our leadership team were veterans.
I go out of my way to fly Southwest Airlines and this reaffirms why I fly on Southwest. This tribute was a class act and it sets a standard for all other airlines. Having lost a Marine brother from combat in Vietnam, I fly the Marine Flag every year on Memorial Day to honor him and all Marines who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving this great nation. I proudly served this country in the US Army and I have a great appreciation for all who served. Thank you for your service!

I remember receiving an email about California Wing Civil Air Patrol being placed on alert because of this very crash. I wish the families of all those who were involved my deepest condolences.

To fly is heavenly to hover divine, rotary wing aviation there is simply no substitute. As a former Navy rotor head mechanic I have many friends in all branches of the service especially Marines. To top it off I got my A&P shortly after I separated and spent over 30 years working as an A&P for a major US airline. RIP Alec. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Alec, the 4 other Marines and EVERY good person that has supported this country from here and abroad that goes for the Merchant Marine, Veterans, Enlisted Personnel, First Responders all the way to the people that collected metals for the war effort. Southwest takes great care of our Military. When my son was flying to basic last March, there were issues with the cargo hold door and they were quick to get him and another on to another plane and to basic pretty quickly. Thank you for what you do for our Military. RIP Alec. Thank you for your service and may God bring peace to you and your family.
