As a rampie who de-iced 8 aircraft today, 4 commercial, 2 private and 2 air force(Canadian single prop), I am damn sure that when I am finished spraying and tell the driver to tell the pilot that his aircraft is clean...I know that is clean, 100%...every aircraft that I de ice, I watch them take off to make sure that they have a positivie climb rate/gears up attitude. Pride in what you do!
I work in the facility that manufactures the de-icing fluid that this airport uses (I load the liquid bulk trucks) We definitely take pride in being the worldwide leader of this technology! And I feel for ya Ground Crew! I'm outside loading just as much!
Just watched how they de-ice in Helsinki/Finland/Europe. They are not sitting in 'buckets', but in closed heated cabins............ ruclips.net/video/4_3__kV4cIQ/видео.html
Only concern is I'm a Veteran Deicer. And I would not recommend spraying fluid near the cockpit window or windows seals as the hot fluid could crack them or damage them.
Southwest Airlines in truly the best. All my experiences with them have always been efficient, pleasant and helpful..........always with a smile.....Their heart insignia truly signifies who they are. "Thank you" Southwest for caring and being there.
I do de-ice and let me tell you that stuff reaks and is super slick. Not to mention if you’re spraying and it’s windy it feels like someone sprayed oil all over you
I’m here to learn more on de icing since I’m a newbie, this is nice to see if they do it differently in other places. We don’t have a de icing truck or bucket, we use a platform on wheels.
Just watched how they de-ice in Helsinki/Finland/Europe. They are not sitting in 'buckets', but in closed heated cabins............ ruclips.net/video/4_3__kV4cIQ/видео.html
beautiful work gentlemen working as a team and communicating as a team at all times is very important to a job like this and it doesn't matter of a job like this any kind of job if the employee works as a team and communicates at all times everything works as planned great teamwork guys
Did this for about 4 years. This was a very small part of my job. It's a lot of communication between driver and sprayer. I preferred driving but had to spray a few times.
I love Southwest Airlines 😘🥰😍your aircrafts are so beautiful 🤩 clean and safe u r my favourite airline I wish your future would be good 😊 you should become the best airline in America 🇺🇸 love ❤️ you southwest sooo much 😘🥰😍😀you care so much for the passengers
I am not an expert at all. But it would seem to me that the most efficient and effective way to do this would be to have a mobile dome by the beginning of the runway that the plane pulls up into that is heated and the plane gets sprayed down with hot water in a warm environment and get cleared for takeoff with only 20 seconds from the time it leaves the dome until the time the pilot drops the throttle.
Back at Christmas 2005 Deicing guys on Nashville International airport sprayed our entire airplane with Deicing fluid before take off. I thought it was a hot deicer over 100 degrees fahrenheit lol
BellaCat I used to live in Colorado I was born and raised there in Thornton Colorado then I moved to different cities in the Same state. Also,I love frontier and planes
Bump that plane and you ruined everyone's flight because that plane will be parked and inspected for months. When I'm at 30,000 feet and doing 450 mph I want no dings in that plane.
If I recall correctly spraying de-icing solution directly on exposed avionics such as Pitot tubes should be avoided, but I don't see how these guys can de-ice without spraying on them. How does that work?
The modern deice trucks have the personnel enclosed. The cherry picker is fully enclosed and they control the spray through remote control. Hanging out of that open cherry picker breathing in all the fumes of the glycol has got to be bad for your health. It looks like fun though...
Depends on the de-icer model. The ones in the video are fairly new and they still make them. I used to work for the company that makes the de-icers that are in the video.
I remember when i was on a FRONTIER a230 from bzn-den we had to sit at the gate for an hour and it was snowing and it was 6:30am we had to wait for them to deice the plane and i was bord
Richard, the fluid is essentially harmless unless large amounts were to be literally drunk directly. We usually have PPE to protect our eyes available, but it can be difficult to see through goggles covered in fluid, so it is a trade off.
How southwest de-ices their planes: How i de ice a plane: *turns on engine de-icers* *turns wing de-icers on* *turns probe heat on* "and we are de icing" As you can see I don't have a team with me I just use a flight sim :l can't afford an actual 737-800 although it would be fun I don't have the budget for one.
The real problem with the 737 MAX is the MCATS and the emergency doors with missing bolts. 1100 dead so far. Around half if Southwests fleet are 737 MAX.. On a wing and a prayer
An hour delay to deice a 737?? On a sunny day like they showed here, way to much fluid for frost, and nice job spraying the windshield on the Airtran 717.
Ummm, No mask? No sealed bucket to protect from whatever they are spraying? It melts snow and ice off an airplane. - what does it do to your lungs. Companies / OSHA really let people breathe that in?
Why did the so called Management in BNA about 13 yrs ago have to be such untrained, unpredictable, unprofessional that I have had ever worked for in my 10 yrs with AA , and 8 with SWA??? Not the SWA that I signed on to work for.
if you would not de ice a plane if its frozen it can cause technical problems and could even cause the plane crash because the pilots don´t get the right information from their computers about the temperatur and air pressure and other important thingd
derek frost If ice accumulates on the wing, it causes a separation of airflow and disrupts lift. This can cause serious issues including stalls, or loss of control. If ice accumulates on instruments used to tell the pilot altitude, or speed the reading can be incorrect which can lead to making incorrect decisions.

Yes they are indeed...
Doing their job does not make them a hero.
Southwest is just an all around awesome airline...extremely safe...the friendliest pilots, crew and airport staff....they do a great job...
If it weren't for these people you probably couldn't fly to see your family for Christmas in some cases
Most cases. The ground crew, mechanics, and other support staff are the unsung heros of transport
God bless you guys for caring about all those on board.

Best way to de-ice an aircraft...Land in Fla ;-Q
It isnt about where you land it's about where you're taking off
@Dark Sigma no because when you're landing it's not important. If you're taking off in an icy environment it's very dangerous.

Does not work. Water starts freezing very fast and even a thin ice layer can cause major loss of lift. You need de-icing.
@@RoyalMela OK fine, but use the deicing liquid inside the dome that I’m talking about.
