there's also 31 romancable characters in addition to the 50 or so non romance options, in addition to the map being over twice the size of stardew so it would also be super unfair to expect the player to go talk to everyone every day. It works in stardew because the cast is only about 30 total with a small map.

I'm trying to romance Noah and Mark, but to be honest, Noah and Alice are so for each other that I would love play cupid! Or Leah and Theo, this is after she said she finds him hot and just after went full tsundere and that was enought to wake up my cupid mode! I would love that NPCs we don't date get married to other NPCs, specially if we have children, it would be sad if my children are the only children their age and I would be mad if the current children don't age! More than romance them I want so much play cupid!

She might be fully committed or just really needs the job and stays in it for that, but being with the player character-who is actively trying to save the island through nature, gives her insight and helps her find a way out of the job. I'm glad your relationship with your lover will be dynamic as you progress with them. My personal favorites at the moment are Charles-love my town doctors, Mark-love my gruff, but sweet deep down guys, and Rafael really grew on me as I watched your playthroughs. Quiet guys need some love too! I personally would like it that if you do have romance with someone and that person had a friend/relative, the friend/relative would comment or act differently around you. Sometimes I've noticed in games like this, you can be happily married to an npc, but the family barely acknowledges your relationship. They may even ask you if you've met your spouse in some cases... I'd be nice if those the npcs would acknowledge the relationship, maybe changing as well like teasing when you two are just going out, asking about wedding plans when you are engaged, offering to watch kids if you have them. Just things that families and friends really do. It might be just me, I'd like for relationship to change with those close to them, as well as your lover.
The characters are already super responsive to changes in the game so I'd be pretty shocked if they don't implement the things you suggested. It should be fun to see what they all have to say 😊
i was hoping for this too! i have my sights set on wakuu, i like my passionate nerdy guys so i also like scott... so ive been hanging around wakuu's dad and giving him a bunch of fish in case it positively affects my relationship progress with wakuu. similar to the my time as sandrock dynamic, where if you level up friendships with an NPC who has mutual friends with you, those mutuals will also gain bonus relationship points.
Side-note , romance is optional but if you're after the 100 % there is two achievements related to romance . It's a date which require you to date a NPC and Full house that require you to have 2 children so if you are a trophy hunter keep that in mind :)
I like the idea that you can romance multiple people because it’s hard to pick one. It leaves time to pick who you want to marry based on their personality/story etc.
Honestly, Leah surprised me. I was really set for Mark, but talking to Mark is talking to a brick wall. I'm probably going to wind up marrying her or Raj! Listen, seeing Raj lie in the grass reading a book and enjoying the flowers...?! That snatched me up.
I really hope the hang out/dating mechanics are similar to the ones on My Time at Portia. Their dating mechanics are so nice, the way we can just ask people out and then we'll have options to where we're taking them and what activities we have lined up to do with them.
When you went through all the date-ables one by one I was imagining some coral island matchmaker character going though a laminated folder trying to arrange the farmer's marriage lmao
I chose Ben from the start and stick by that decision. His vibe matches mine. His healing crystals and my tarot cards will work well together. AND as a bonus I get to be Funbucket's mom when I marry Ben!!💍💒
My top 3 romanceables have always been Theo, Pablo, and Wakuu (in that order). I'm part of the disappointed group that Agung isn't dateable because he was tied for second in my heart when info about him was first coming out. Semeru just isn't comparable imo, so I hope that later we might get another male merfolk dateable character (rn the only viable merfolk dateables for me are the ladies).
Definitely multiple save files top marriage candidates are Lily, Denali, Princess Miranjani, Rafael and Mark - will have to be besties with Zarah now due to pet choice!

Alas, we weren't loud enough. So sadly, both Derek and Axel are officially Strangers(basically minor npc, unable to be friended or gifted). For now. At least for 1.0. There's always a possibility of adding more love interests post 1.0, as Stairway games are pretty open to players input. Like with Suki, she wasn't meant to be romanceable but due to OVERWHELMING players demand, she got promoted to Love Interest.

Many dateable characters still live with their parents/relatives besides him, and also keep in mind that the pressure to move out upon reaching adulthood is very culturally western.
I think I read in the discord that NPCs will get their own musical themes? If that's true for all romance candidates that adds a new dimension for who to choose. Personally, I'm trying to choose between Mark and Rafael right now...

I love all of the diversity in the romanceable characters! As a non-binary person I wish there were more nonbinary characters but the fact that we have 2 in game (Raj dateable and Dippa friendable) is huge!

I bought this for PS5 a while ago and was thinking about starting since at this point in time I could REALLY use just a chill mindless game, but I ended up starting My Time at Sandrock. Which is a little more involved and has a lot to do, but I think I made the right choice for now. I cant wait to see what the devs keep bringing to this game. I really didnt want to start it and get burnt out before all tbe good stuff was implemented. I think waiting a few more months would be perfect for me. It looks like a lot of fun.
Alice grabbed my attention first so shes definitely the OG one for me. Shes just incredibly sweet but also curious about the unexplained and I dig that. I love the beige looks.

OMG! Suki is a dateabke chatacter that is a single mom and has strechmarks that she doesnt try and hide!?!? This game is AMAZING! Im so glad to see so much more representation in dating sim games. Genders, sexualities, personalities... But as a recently widowed mom, which I fully enjoy all these spcial aspects of these games, this is the actual first time that I have personally felt that I found a character that I can identify with. These devs are absolutely incredible.

I knew they wouldn't grow until teens until later, but I thought they'd at least grow to the age of the other town kids initially. If not, that's really disappointing.

One of my main gripes with SDV was how short and basic its heart events felt, i would love to experience a lot more in depth dialogue and actual dialogue options. What are your (spoiler free) experiences?

Unfortunately it would be a tiny tiny tiiiiiiiiiiiiny chance of it happening. Before Geoffrey McCullum, err I mean Axel were added to the game, Early Access folks were like barging for Derek(the construction dude, that literally look like Derek Hale from TW) to be romanceable. Alas, we weren't loud enough.
So sadly, both Derek and Axel are officially Strangers(basically minor npc, unable to be friended or gifted).
For now.
At least for 1.0. There's always a possibility of adding more love interests post 1.0, as Stairway games are pretty open to players input. Like with Suki, she wasn't meant to be romanceable but due to OVERWHELMING players demand, she got promoted to Love Interest.

OMG! Suki is a dateabke chatacter that is a single mom and has strechmarks that she doesnt try and hide!?!? This game is AMAZING! Im so glad to see so much more representation in dating sim games. Genders, sexualities, personalities... But as a recently widowed mom, which I fully enjoy all these spcial aspects of these games, this is the actual first time that I have personally felt that I found a character that I can identify with. These devs are absolutely incredible.
There’s so many choices but at the moment I’m gravitating towards Rafael.

But for Agung or Axel or others to be romancable, it's unfortunately highly unlikely, as the 28 datable rooster has been announced as final decision.

Does Mark every stop calling you Garden Rake or become friendly to you at all? I mean I melted when he found the stray and I do love what I see of him, just not the parts directed at us the player.

Theo is hubby 1 and Wakkuu will be hubby 2. Pablo might wind up as 3. Also was it confirmed that children won't grow past the baby stage in 1.0? I knew they wouldn't grow until teens until later, but I thought they'd at least grow to the age of the other town kids initially. If not, that's really disappointing.
