I've had a lifelong terror of dolls, especially those baby-faced ones, so you have no idea how much this scared me. Otherwise, this song is as catchy as it is clever, really nice :)
I can relate: when i was a kid, there was something horrible and scary about puppets on strings-the way they walked, still with the same expressions on their faces, coming toward you! 🤢
People that balk at this: it really isn't that complicated. It's about two people that want to express their affection for each other and enjoy themselves, but are too bound by their low self-esteem, avoidant personality habits, and social awkwardness to do so. It doesn't take smarts to appreciate Residents lyrics, just a fondness for poetry.
I wish the Constantinople video was more like this. I had this idea of doing a video for it featuring either a marionette puppet, or better yet a ventriloquist dummy. Anyone is free to steal my idea by the way, as long as you make it really disturbing. :)
