This - and its compatriot My Music - were staple diet for our family in the 1970s. Time was set aside, when it was played on radio, for fresh scones and tea. I think I owe a considerable debt to the panel(s) for the extent - such as it is - of my knowledge of the English language.
Reading your comment made me realize that I am not alone, others found them fascinating. During the 1970's in Chicago, our premier classical music station, WFMT, rebroadcasted both My Word and My Music. We too, scheduled those evenings around them.
@@tombaron2321 My Word & My Music were definitely played on WFMT until *at least* the 1980s though I suspect it went on until some time in the 1990s. They were vintage shows during the period I was listening. Not certain about the 1970s. I was young in the 80s. When I first started travelling to London I "brought home" the UK in the form of (double) cassettes from the BBC Shop at Bush House. There I purchased several My Word books and double cassettes of a compilation of the My Word stories; an absolutely delightful treasure!
This was my favorite radio show for years.

Wonderful radio! Thank you for sharing this with us.
A delight! Shades of childhood..... Thank you.
Glorious to find this programme after so many years. Loved the radio programmes way back when intelligent people were revered.
Thank you very very much 😁
I'm only surprised and a little dismayed that this programme's format wasn't immediately snapped up by an enterprising American broadcaster.
Sure bud
What, and ruin it?😂

This sounds like a record. Were the omnibus put out on vinyl?
Could be a studio transcribed recording, which before the adoption of tapes, would have been a vinyl record.
Yes. Jerry Lee CARL who cares. He sort of reads. And has just been beaten to the role via another American. APODICTIC
I LOVE this!! Thank you, @SpartakistMk2 !
