As I watched this and saw Winx rounding the turn with the entire field before her and the old plugger, Tully, sitting on her outside, I thought: "That's it. The winning streak is over". What transpired after that was breathtaking. The super cool Hughie sat still, his great sportsman's brain reading the dynamics in front of him. He knew what she could do if tested. He sat quietly like a wily old fisherman, sticking to the middle and waiting for the daylight. He took his foot off the gas and glided across the line in an elegant final flourish that would not have been out of place at the Royal Ballet. This is the stuff of legends.
That's why Hugh Bowman is one of the great riders in the modern era. Big gamble to look for an inside passage is made possible by Winx's explosive sprint finish. Great call by Matthew Hill - "How's your blood pressure after that?"
@@michaelwright2899 He won't want to get caught in the same situation in the Cox Plate on the tight MV track. Remember what happened to Better Loosen Up in the '92 Cox Plate. Forced to take an inside run when caught with Let's Elope in front and Super Impose on his outside. Finished 4th.
The Cox Plate is a completely different proposition. This may very well be her best win to date as evidenced by the IVR ratings for this race. She rated -8.5L to the 800m and +13.2 for the last 400m for an adjusted rating of +8. You can guarantee a much faster pace through the first half of the race in a Cox Plate... and the race is invariably won up the side. Bowman would never ride for luck like that at MV... but unlikely he'd have to.
Veroldin Bowman told the stewards after that race that he had a female jockey on his outside and was concerned for her safety so he stayed inside looking for another gap to squeeze through.
Mate, I think she’s the best. Would have love to see her race against Frankel. The ultimate from runner vs the ultimate chaser. I don’t know. I think she might catch him. In all her wins, it always seems like she has another gear in hand(hoof) if she needs it. So far, never has needed it.
These are the sectionals for Winx: 1st 800m in 52.82; last 800m in 43.98 (41 lengths difference). Last 600m in 32.21; last 200m in 10.87. Winx beat the top two Caulfield Cup favourites: Kings Will Dream (3rd) and Youngstar (2nd).
The last 800m will always be faster than the first 800m as the last 800m is from a 'flying' start and the first 800m is from a standing start. She did run Grp1 sprinter like final sectionals. I suspect Hugh Bowman needs to sharpen up his pace reading skills. He's just lucky he's riding such a freak horse. That's twice he's nearly missed the boat. The other was the Chelmsfoed Stakes when Red Excitement went a mile in front but didn't go that fast to get there. Winx had to pull out all stops to overrun it in the shadows of the post. Just ride it like the best horse no need to ride her 'pretty'.
@@leedelaney70 I just had a look at that Chelmsford Stakes you mentioned. OMG, what a scare! That was win 17 in the current sequence. I've seen races pinched by tearaways before. I have seen most of her Sydney wins live and the atmosphere is as great as a grand final when she is going to the barrier I normally don't get nervous but I do when she is racing. If you haven't seen her race in the flesh get to Mooney Valley for the Plate if you possibly can.
Ever since the great race caller Bill Collins famously uttered the immortal words "and Kingston Town can't win" (Kingston Town's 3rd Cox Plate), other callers have been reluctant to write off a champion during a race....a wise course indeed when you are WINX. Write her off at your peril.
Watching this race in an Aussie pub in Manly, I thought that this was the race that she was going to lose. no way could she win at the 400, then in with a show at the 200, then she wins under hands-and-heels. Fuck-me-days; what a horse...
Suncrest Arabians no Secretariat blood at all in this one. Native Dancer through Mr Prospector on the paternal line and Northern Dancer in the dam’s side. I think you’ll find though that Secretariat won most of his races on the pace.
Secretariat broke last for half his career after copping a bad bump in his first race. Eventually he discovered he had grown bigger than all his opponents, had no need to fear bumps and ran on the pace. But basically he could win from anywhere, over any distance, on any track, in any conditions... and more often than not break the track/world record while hand ridden. Which is why he is the GOAT.
that guy who put $170'000 on winx. easiest $26000 for him or her. I would put a million on her all the time when she won 5 in a row. i'd be rich! but dreams are free.
@@talibanimmigrant2281 how did I become an idiot? Lol. I'm new Zealander and think winx is the best horse in the world. If Europe horses are that good. Go challenge winx in the Cox plate. Why does she have to go there, when they can go to aussie to race her?

Alan, Matt Chapman is a slimey two faced twat. Did you see him bow down to Debbie Kapitas, part owner of Winx, after the horse won her fourth Cox Plate? He is a dishonest piece of work and should not be listened to. He has nothing of worth or sense to offer anyone about racehorses.
She doesn't need to do anything. ALREADY rated the best horse on the planet by the official Longines thoroughbred world rankings system with a Timeform rating of 130.
Bear in mind that the highest level of horse Racing always in Europe , 28 times win in Aussie doesn’t mean the best , it only means the highest points in the ranking system .
No Gas Wong. 28 races doesn't mean the best... the highest IFHA rating in the world means she's the best. You obviously don't know how ratings systems work.

Winx is showing good potential.

Beat one of the best Europe turf horse ! She is now really a Queen 4 cox plate in a row ! Congrats
Which horse was that? I don't think so.
Benbatl

Ordinary or otherwise, she smashed him at almost a canter.
Is there something Winx can't do? 28 in a row. My goodness!
I've seen Baguette, Gunsynd, Makybe Diva, Black Cavalier, Kingston Town (amongst 100s of other greats) - this one is the best I've ever seen.
Better thsn frankel ??
