Very cool review. I've owned Pionner AVR's for the last 15 years. Have never failed and keep running. The key is to have plugged into a Power Conditioner and have breathing room. That said I recently upgraded living room to a Marantz and I've gotta say without question there is a considerable quality increase with detail within the Marantz
@@Upscaled_HT I made a huge mistake on my last Pioneer receiver. For some reason it only has Zone 2 Pre-Out 🎬 I wasn't paying attention. I'm pushing the Sandy Gross era Definitive Technology Super Towers through the house the Marantz with zero question brings out the best out of them then again the BP7001 Towers recommend up to 600watts 😆. The Pioneers do just fine in the other rooms however there is no comparison. I'm now checking into Emotiva & Marantz Amps the SR7013 is a few years old but IMO is better than the newer SR6015 regarding power. Would be cool. I do think its cool they at least give you the option for using the pre amp mode for the front main channels and keeping your internal amps for the rest your channels.
Hope there is a ventilation fan in there. I killed a Yamaha like that in an enclosed cabinet. Now my Pioneer Elite is in an open cabinet with computer box fan added. Old VSX-33 still going strong and sounding amazing.
I thought it would get hot too but it really doesn't. It has class d amps, which run really cool. The case is open completely open in the back as well.
12V trigger is to wake up power amplifiers hooked up to the pre-amp outputs on the AVR when the receiver turns on. Doesn't get used for much else. Also, why don't you use HDMI CEC / ARC? Thats like one of the most important control features to use in any AVR...
I’ve had bad experiences with hdmi cec. I use a harmony elite remote. In my experience, cec works well if you use the built in tv apps for streaming but when you have multiple sources like I do, it starts getting buggy. Just my opinion though.
That’s why I though 100hz was a good compromise since I think it jumps to 150hz after 100. This is that the manual says: “When there are speakers that have been set to "Small", set the Hz under which you would like other speakers to play bass, and also set Hz under which you would like the LFE (low frequency effect) to play the bass. The value from "50Hz" to "200Hz" can be set.”
@@Upscaled_HT Are you a 100% sure about the LFE Filter being the crossover setting as well? Because LFE has always had its own channel and some reviewers would have mentioned this for sure...as this would be quite a big contradicting thing for the AVR principles of reproducing every sound somewhere.

Hi...if u have fronts set to large and crossover to 100hz...Will the crossover work for the fronts....but what if u set the fronts to small and crossover to 100 its still going to do the same??
Just bought one of these because my LX59 screen had dimmed to low. Did you enjoy the sound from this 901? I’ve sort of bought it blind don’t know what to expect
Does Pioneer have a firmware upgrade to IMAX Enhanced for LX901? You think IMAX Enhanced is Marketing Fluff and worth getting? Trying to decide between the LX901, LX704 or Denon 3700H.
I think pioneer is done with firmware updates for the lx901. I don’t know much about imax enhance but I would guess there is good amount of marketing fluff there. It seems like a niche product and they’re a bit late to the game since atmos is currently dominating the market. It looks they used dts x encoded content and does some extra processing.
Hi!! Thanks for the video, I have a question could you know if there are some admin configuration in a browser and some app to do it, my receiver is pioneer sc lx901.
I know there is app. It doesn’t have enhanced functionality. It’s very basic and I don’t use it. As for setting everything up in a browser based environment, I don’t think this receiver has that functionality. I checked the user manual and I don’t see anything like that.
Cool, helpful video. Any insight on how to setup all 3 zones to video and sound? Ive gor a SC-LX704 and it has 3 hdmi outs. I'm tryin to send a video feed to 3 different rooms. Thanks.
@@Upscaled_HT No friend. My hope is that my pioneer lx704's 3 hdmi out outputs will allow me to send 3 different audio and visual feeds to 3 different tv. I havent found any videos on receivers with hdmi outs and how to set them up. Ive downloaded the pioneer app and still cant get the result I'm looking. :(
Your setting for ATMOS should be top front & rear if you have overhead/in ceiling speakers. It doesn't matter if your speakers are over the back seating, the phase and timing calibration will handle the specifics. That TOP Front setting is a height speaker setting, not an ATMOS speaker setting. Heights and Wides are pseudo atmospheric settings, not true ATMOS or DTS:X
Heights can be used as atmos speakers. I agree that overhead are better though. Sometimes you role with what you have. I have tried setting them to rear and I like how they sound as middle more. As you said, the phase and timing calibration will compensate.
If you're not running external power amps for your speakers with an AVR. You don't know what you're missing. Night and day difference in sound quality and dynamics.
I have always liked Onkyo but I have never owned a top of the line Onkyo that compares to my Pioneer. Honestly, I think they’re all good. Once you have close to the flagship model, they all become comparable. At that point, you need to look at their room correction. That said, I would say Onkyo (I like their designs), Pioneer, and last Denon, but they’re all really close. Just don’t buy the cheapest model of any of them and I would stay above the midrange models.
@@Upscaled_HT I currently own an entry level Pioneer and I also just purchased a Marantz SR6014 because I wanted pre-outs. I know Pioneer doesn’t have the greatest calibration, but that’s bc out of the box they sound great. Audyssey is a better calibration, but it flattens the bass response so much that you can barely hear and feel. My Pioneer MCACC set my sub trim level to -7 and Marantz Audyssey to -4. Although the Marantz set the sub trim level hotter, it still didn’t sound as good as Pioneers. In order for Marantz to sound good I had to turn on Dynamic Eq. I don’t think that a good calibration system makes all brands superior. It’s like sayin perfum colognes last longer than toilettes, but that not always the case right?
MCACC Pro is pretty good. I can't honestly compare it to my other receivers because it's no contest. Some people swear that Marantz have their own sound so there might be a little secret sauce in every manufacturer but I feel this may be less so now and in the future due to brand consolidation. As for setting up bass response, if you haven't gotten a mic to make some measurements I would recommend it. I bought my mic and it sent me down a rabbit hole to really enhance my bass response in my home theater.
Trust me on this; their shit don't work long anymore. They also have no real repair; and send you to third parties.. If you buy one of the pioneers AV Rcvr's you are stupid. Though likely happy until they fail. I've had two different models in the last half dozen years go bad. Good luck.
Finally someone reviewing a pionee sc AVr. Great video... have you heard about what’s coming?
I don’t have that kind of access to information. I wish I did.
