  • I wanted to make a quick video on Atlus doing so well as of lately. I am mainly just really hyped for Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor Refantazio. But despite the success of Persona 4, 5, and Shin Megami 5...it still feels like people are dismissive of Atlus games. When I started going back the last several years I quickly realized they have a lot of wins lately.

    Great video! Though one small note, Atlus had later clarified that P3Reload is getting FES content just not the Answer, so it does include the Journey as well as other gameplay elements from FES.

      @@TheGamingHarbinger based on the interview, it can be assumed that Atlus will add events/important terms from their other canon media; drama CDs, guide books, anime movies, connected games etc. The reason they chose Makoto's narrative is due to consistency to be faithful to the original, plus also to fix the initial mess/mistakes made in an initial experimental title.
      Keep in mind Persona 3 was initially released as the soft reboot of the franchise and the start of Hashino era mainlines, deviating away from Tadashi era mainlines (P1, P2 duology). As 3 was the first title in the neo generation Persona franchise, it's bound to be messy in terms of narratives and character links. Reload being a ground up remake is a chance to correct their initial errors, plus the use of Unreal Engine is their second test of developing their future projects.

    So I kept saying “reloaded” when I meant “reload”. The only time I meant to say “reloaded” was when I joked about Atlus re-releasing the game in 2025. 😅

    Man, I watched the Refantazio Trailer at least 20 times since the Xbox show and I am still hyped. I dunno how I can wait so long. They will surely release it towards Fall/Winter. FF16 is no match :D

      So far I am enjoying FF16 but…I just like the aesthetic and art style more in Refantazio! It looks so cool to me. 😎

    ??? how do you figure. Everything they've released are filler cash grabs to fund their next Persona project. And currently that's P6. Square-Enix did the same thing with their failure of Valkyrie Profile reboot and Star Ocean to fund FF16. And I don't even want to think of the cash grab that Konami is about to do with MGS3; because you know nothing more is ever going to come from that with Hideo being kicked out from that IP.

      I think the criticism you have for Atlus is illustrated throughout this video. I don't think they are angels. 🤔 They definitely have their crash crab moments, but I think they also have their moments where they are pushing the needle. I am all about analysis and having a dialogue thoughout this channel. Please tell me what gaming conglomerate is making moves that you agree with 90% of their choices? I am a patient man so I will wait for that answer. 🤔

      @TheGamingHarbinger maybe they're cash grabs but imo they're pretty fun cash grabs, people might not love p3/5d but you can't ignore all the work that went into the choreography and writing etc. Even if you don't like them, I don't think that atlus was full 100% just doing it to take money from consumers
      I also don't disagree that re-releasing games with added content is lame but they're not shitty re-releases that barely change anything. They usually change the mechanics of the entire base game in some way, AND they add extra hours of story content. Modern games these days charge full price just for the level of content that atlus adds in their re-releases. At least with persona you can replay the entire base game with interesting new mechanics
      It definitely comes down to what kind of content you value for your money, but most of the time I would disagree that atlus is just popping out cheap cash grab spinoffs

      I dunno how much they're cash grabs as reusing existing things that have been proven to work well, and telling a new story around them?
      I've only played Persona 5, 3, and Soul Hackers 2, so there might be really blatant cash grabs I just haven't seen. But for me, SH2 was a pretty solid game with a fun setting and story. The fact that I played Persona first meant I got to smile when I recognized many of the monsters whose names and artwork they reused, and it was even cute that they had a special fusion to unlock the original Pixie from SH1, which probably predates the way it looks from Persona 3 onward.
      I should also note that I encountered these games on the xbox, so very recently... and P3P was clunky but enjoyable, with a great story IMO. I think it's a bit sad that they keep releasing remakes that don't include the whole P3 FES scope, but perhaps if they have success with the new reload version, they'll go back and add the extended story and other things as DLC.
      I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I LIKE it when a game studio keeps themselves grounded in their own work. Seeing familiar things in new games that tell different stories in different settings is a nice way to let the audience jump in already invested a little bit. Other studios that do this seem to want to pretend they're entirely new, and I get the feeling they copy/paste elements and slap new names and new artwork on them, just to try to be "different".

      @@Manimal1920 I 100% agree with you. I actually think the Persona fighting games were really good. I was captivated by the story. I think the dancing games are fun, but maybe they just aren’t for everyone. As you said…even when it’s a spin-off..the quality of the game is not a downgrade.

    • @TheGamingHarbinger
      @TheGamingHarbinger  Год назад

      @@quixadhal to be honest…saying some of the spin-offs are cash grabs is a bit of a stretch. The spin-offs I have played, I have really enjoyed. So you are right…is it a cash grab when it’s the same characters but a new story? I don’t think so.
