Another La Réunion and another show of proper physical prowess. Well done mousieur Bruwiere!!! Tip my hat to you, again, sir! But was it just me or this year's course was a lot more gruesome and confusing than last year?...And that peugeot when you were on town tarmac coming right at you was simply NOT cool!!! Right now I'm recuperating from a small muscle tear in my right thigh after a big shunt, on my bike, in the middle of a dense fog, at 01h in the morning in Coimbra, Portugal(yes, yes, what was I thinking?...). Your videos trully get me itching to be able to return to my bike again. Be well brave warrior and good ridings!
The track was almost the same as last year. In this place, there are always dogs, people, trucks or cars,… on the track. It’s part of this race 😂 we need keep focus. Have a good recovery!
Watching videos like this inspired me to taking up mountain biking again, have even managed going down steps of 6 😋 I now realise that bike parts on most retailer bikes are subpar for heavier riders so have begun replacing all parts. Tires and innertubes are better but eventually go tubeless. The online supplier of my bike put normal inner tubes in it when Presta valvue inner was required for the holes of the wheels...ffs. Recently my seat steam snapped off underneath the seat when I was riding, but luckily slowly so it sort of felt the bike snapped in half. Fine, no injuries, stayed on the bike. But gonna replace all parts of my bike totally pimping it up, to make it a proper 'CHAD BIKE' 😁Not these cheap parts that come with the supplier. Buying a proper seat steam and seat, with suspension in the seat as suspensions seem to be good for the bike not just the rider. The gears system, including derailers and cracks need to be replaced at some point. Spend 150 a month on it until it is just a beast. 👹 Might give the mountain a go but bike needs a lot of upgrading and pimping up.
how do they even know where to go next? there's no guides or even arrow smh, I know they do like a prep run but still, remembering the exact route while battling it out with others and riding your heart out will for sure mess w/ my head and make a mistake sooner or later.
I can admitt that it adds some flavour to the overall difficulty of that track but still Olivier...let's admit it, you're an elite athlete. You can't be riding into an incomming car in the middle of the street. You're a lot younger than me but still, me, at 44 years old must tell you that injuries are definitely gruesome and not welcome. A shunt with that Peugeot could have been horrible. I wanted to go riding today, to see where I was with my leg but, no luck, raining cats and dogs. Before I bid you adieux and until next time I say to you again: leaving Killi and Stephan behind you all the way from the glacier to the podium. That's A Game, right there! Good for you! And thak you very much for your good wiches. Much appreciated! All the way from Coimbra, Portugal, I wish a merry christmas and happy Holidays! Good Ridings!
As the first time watching you do the Megavalanche I now know it’s a race of luck. I have watched many and you hesitated many times didn’t take the risks and didn’t seem to me to be racing at full capacity. True your a champion in your sport from what I have googled but it lacked the wow factor that the other 3 riders I have watched do this race. ( not the same one mind you). If I put all 4 of you in a race then that would be epic. Let go… be a little wild and stop thinking of the prize. I know you are probably the better rider but you need to just let go and enjoy the sport 🍻👍
Yes, you need some luck and skills during the start of the race. But after the start, you race your own pace. You have to keep up for 45 minutes. So you have to choose the moments to go full speed and the moment to recover a little bit.
I watched many races of this type on YT (Mega France, Hell, Cervinia). I had to wait for this one on La Réunion to see dogs, people, vehicles threatening the safety of the riders. 🤯 I wouldn’t have the courage: I would expect a sudden obstacle at every turn.
Amazing result nice race, Reunion is one of the most beautiful places Ive been. But this start was horrendous that funnel to the pole was like a trap to catch racers very bad done start from organizers, and also the trails almost has no tape or markings very disapointing, racers could get lost all the time anyway amazing race.
ah GG ! C'est balèze ces courses ! Je me pose la question, à quel point vous connaissez le circuit ? Genre vous le faite pendant une semaine et c'est bon ou juste 2 ou 3 fois ?
I rode up to the start some days before the race. I took me almost 4 hours to ride the climb. 2300m of climbing over +- 30km. 2 years ago I rode back to the top in Alpe d’huez after the race. ✌️✌️
It's fascinating, I admire the amazing physical and mental effort. But I dislike the damage, mountain bikes cause, the soil erosion, the Soil compaction making soil less permeable to water, increasing water runoff, destroying root systems, Vegetation loss and compositional changes. Don't we have enough roads? Why destroy, what's left of habitats? The destruction is sickening.
Thx for the comment. They are racing this same track for 25 years. It’s still the same. They also put lots of work in it to keep it in good conditions. Hikers are doing more damage to trails compared to bikers.
Congratulations for 2nd place . And again huge pigeon winner .
Thx! Yes, Hugo was on fire. To strong for me.
Cette performance est vraiment incroyable, j'essaye d'etre la tout les ans pour vous encourager !!!!
Merci! ✌️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow! Really great riding! Awesome nature, landscapes and of course: your skills! Best from Vienna!
Thx! It’s a little paradise here.
@@olivierbruwiere I agree! Looks fantastic! What is your bike and the tires?
I’m on the Scott Genius. Take a look at the video’s description.
Gotta love the Scott Genius ST910!
I’m riding the Genius 910. Carbon front and alu in the back. Perfect bike!
Impressive pace, you're a machine!
Thx! 💪
Geniale ontwijking van die groene kar man. Fenomenaal. Prachtig gedaan bosse.
Thx!

We can practice the track, but yes. We have to keep focus to stay on the trails. At the big crossings, there will be people.
very very nice, Olivier. Congratz
Thx! 👍

Haha, I don’t think about it. I’m only careful when crossing the roads.
@@olivierbruwiere I suppose you couldn’t compete… if you thought too much about it.
Proficiat! Dit jaar met extra hindernissen. Karren en honden op de weg. 😂
Die Kar was toch speciaal!

The start is always the same. Everybody knows it. We can also practice the track during the week.
Tebrikler kardeşim 👏👏👍
Thx!!
Cakep race nya
Thx!
25:30 the same dog as last year 😂😂😂😂
Haha, he doesn’t like the race.
Where was your camera mounted? It appears to be under your helmet visor? Great video!
Yes, under the visor. I think it’s the best view.
great riding..where is killian???
Probably on his bike in one of the worlds most beautiful places.
@@olivierbruwiere thanks man..sorry but i follow him all time....is great with alsso peter
Beautiful racing course. Where is this place?
It’s an Island next to Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It’s called La Réunion.
yeah, was thinking the same thing - looks like something out of Lord of the Rings lol
Haha, it’s a perfect holiday spot.
Whaa zo fysiek, mor blijven gaan zijt em. Vet!
Haha, het moet hé
ah GG ! C'est balèze ces courses ! Je me pose la question, à quel point vous connaissez le circuit ? Genre vous le faite pendant une semaine et c'est bon ou juste 2 ou 3 fois ?
I did the track 3 times before. 👌
Is that in centro America ? it looks very green
Indian Ocean. Next to Madagascar.
Where is this race? Why am I seeing palm trees?
Ile de Réunion. It’s in the video’s title. ✌️
Now ride UP the hill!
I rode up to the start some days before the race. I took me almost 4 hours to ride the climb. 2300m of climbing over +- 30km.
2 years ago I rode back to the top in Alpe d’huez after the race. ✌️✌️
I hope no one ran over that dog, again ^^
Same one hahaha
😊
✌️
Were there times when you were not sure if you were still on the trail, because there were multiple points where I couldnt tell.
Nope, I rode the track 3 times before the race. We all know the trail. 👌
Thanks for the reply!@@olivierbruwiere
Félicitations j’en ai fait une partie c’est physique et le repos des mains je comprends 👍
Yes, the track is not easy on the hands. Some resting can be helpful.
38:47 daam, a bit too close for comfort I'd think :D
Jup. But I knew it was possible. So no big surprise 🙈
Crash in the beginning looked terrible. 🥴2nd place though, so pretty gud.
Thx!!
Op 37:27....niemand die er zomaar voor klapt...Effe kijken....Nee...dit keer niet haha!
Haha! Gelukkig niet deze keer. 🙊
20:30 what happened to him?
A broken crankarm.
Mais c'est quoi ces piquets au départ??? !!!!
It’s the sign from the Maïdo. It’s there for years.
I was wondering where my dog went . . . .
😅😅
Who was crash first ??
Romain Payet
Romaine payet was 3rd last time . Very unlucky . But it's a part of game .
Jup
25:30 That seems odd that they let their dogs, that freak out about bikes loose like that.
Jup…
wow you nice
💁♂️
whose 1st!?
Hugo Pigeon.
Passing the white dude when he slowed for the truck didnt look too classy
We could not see the truck yet when I passed him, but we passed together and rode on. Halfway the uphill, I lost him slowly.
That guy who rides freeride cutting the tape at 22min...😅he doesn't deserve a classy thing!
Well done Olivier!! Thankyou you smashed it!👍🔥🔥🤘😎🤘🔥🔥
You slow better luck next time 😢
Thx mate! No need for a next time. I allready won this race last year. ✌️
No power he has....🤔
I don’t know what you want to say?

Thx for the comment.

the arm pump must have been unbelievable.
Good tires, grips, pressure and forks helps. But yes. Arms are getting beat up.
@@olivierbruwiere RESPECT, dude. Great video too.
