  • Line 6 Pod Go vs HX Stomp - My Pros and Cons
    In this video, I wanted to talk about my experience with the Pod Go and the HX Stomp from Line 6. Both products are fantastic at what they do and it is very hard to decide which one is "better". So here is my comparison and discussion of the pros and cons of each. Hope you enjoy.

      Steve Sterlacci - Still not sure. I was kinda thinking I’d use the Pod Go as a backup to my Helix for live shows. But now with our friend Mr. Covid, it’s kinda moot. When you tour, do you have a backup Helix? I’d be kinda terrified not to.

    Great video, Steve, thank you. I typically don't comment on the features that are already baked into a product, but I think the POD GO would be ideal if it had the Line 6 Link interface to control the Powercab (Plus) units (I have them myself). Yeah, I know, it's not marketed towards the pros, but having the ability to control the Powercabs remotely would be a fantastic feature for an all-in-one solution with a streamlined UI like the GO. That would enable to go directly to the FOH from them bypassing the missing balanced XLR. It is what it is, but I thought I would just drop it here :) Thanks, love the channel!

    Thanks for this super informative video Steve! I have a full blown Helix and love it so much that I’m thinking about another unit that does the same sounds, that I don’t mind taking to the bar for my duo gigs, in case someone spills beer all over it. Tuner, expression pedal and price are important to me... multiple cabs, parallel effects and midi aren’t, so you cinched it for me. And anyway if I wanted those things I’d still have my Helix Floor. Love your videos brother - thank you!!

    I had bought the HX stomp when it came out and love it. I was ready to buy the mtn eng wah for it.... But when Pod Go came out - I bought that also! For me, I play mostly at home, and occasionally go gig at a friends. Either works great but I love the built in wah on the pod go and more buttons. But if you want to integrate into a pedal board with other pedals, the HX stomp is definitely the way to go. I use them stand alone with no other pedals so I am using the Pod Go more. But since I have another amp in my living room, the HX stomp is in there so I do use both. Like you say, both sound great. Really enjoy your channel - appreciate the great info! 👍🏻🎸

I still use the old Pod HD500 with an external cab pedal and it's still quite awesome and besides that unit I've got another pedal board. I just got a pod go. I love it. Not a fan of it running out of DSP before I get all the effects I want, but I wanted it for its simplicity and compactness so for me it's worth the trade-off. I know you're a huge fan of parallel paths, i've found though that that the presets i've made in the pod go may sound better than some of my helix versions because i'm forced to do more with less.

    Hey Steve.
    I bought recently a Pod Go to replace my big and heavy pedalboard and with a few pedals that I sold I paid the Pod. I’m those who like to have a volume and wah pedal available in every gig... so
    I’m very satisfied, but I need to say that you got to have a lot of tone experience to dial into a very convincing tone. I will be able to complete a desirable set of patches when this pandemic allows me to play live again...
    As for the parallel stuff, with the Pod at least we can do the thing that you plug (pre cab) dry into the amp and with line output to the PA that would be interesting ...

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  3 года назад +1

    Very nice video, Steve! Those differences you mentioned can really help one decide between the two. For myself, I'm wondering if the Rotary effect is the same on both, and are either of them good enough to replace (or get close to replacing) a Strymon Lex?

  • @thomasmoore3822
    @thomasmoore3822 4 года назад +2

    Very nice video Steve. I think for me it’s the pod go vs the hx effect. I already have the m9 which works great and can use 3 effects at a time. One of the ones I use all the time is Eq, so that gives me plenty of blocks in the pod go. I like the ideal of the expression built in for wah and vol. I also use the delays, flanger, chorus. I am pretty sure I can add my over drives I to the effect block but may not need them. This will always give me a wah option which I like in the M9 but never have room for it or reverb with my 3 buttons on at a time.
    I really don’t know what I would be missing with parallel paths with the stomp and wouldn’t want to have to buy an extra midi pedal. So for me it’s pod go which will replace my pod xt. I don’t think I need to replace my m9 yet with the hx effect since I’m still getting use out of it. Always loved the xt but could never take it out of the house to a gig which the pod go will allow me.
    One question, can I just go from amp out to my amp and shut off the amp models or how should I plug it in.

    • @SteveSterlacci
      @SteveSterlacci  4 года назад +1

      I would use the pod go and throw the M9 in the fx loop for a TON more flexibility! You can integrate the two seamlessly and easily. I'd only go to a flat speaker monitor and direct to FOH

  • @steveliberty

    The Stomp plus the MC6 is a VERY powerful combination. I have mine on a Metro 20 along with a MOSKY switch and an Iridium. Cost puts it in a different category though. Stomp and MC6 alone plus a pedalboard and power starts approaching LT cost territory. But, you still have the ability to use just the Stomp off of that board when that makes sense, where as an LT is an LT forever. The POD Go is my grab and go. I use it stand alone. I compromise on the switching (still better than Stomp alone, not nearly as good as Stomp + MC6) and on some presets due to the 4 flexible block limit, but nothing that is a deal breaker. Love them both.

  • @martinthompson2425

    Hahahaha!!! I just cleaned all the dirt off my pedalboard also! And it’s definitely working musician dirt not dirt from just sitting around in the living room! Ha ha! Thanks for the info on both units. I may be leaning toward the pod go soon. I’m sure it would be a giant leap from a board full of individual effects. Good quality effects nonetheless. But multi effects and modeling definitely make for an extremely versatile rig with quicker, easy access to WAY more sounds! Thanks again!

    Is it possible to run a separate overdrive pedal while running the POD in the return of the amp. I'm finding that for me it sounds best coming out left/mono into the return. I started with the Helix LT. I was extremely impressed. I decided to go "analog" and purchased an amp and pedals........I only did two shows "analog". Once you experience a easy load in and load out, you'll never go back. I then went to the HX Stomp. It is a bit limiting from the LT however, now I take my guitar and a small back back and I'm good to go. In hindsight, I would have gone POD.

    Late to the party - only just discovered the Pod Go and don't have one...yet. Just bought one on eBay & it's on the way. I'm primarily a bassist but noodle around a lot on guitar, so I'm hoping the Pod will do both for me.
    Great comparison video Steve, but I do have a couple of points - bearing in mind that I haven't got the Pod yet so this is from reading the manual and watching umpteen vids:
    The Pod can do midi implementation but it's via the usb connection, not 1/4".
    I hear your enthusisam for parallel signal chains, but the Pod's effects pretty much all have a dry/wet mix option, and the expression pedal (two if you add an extra via the rear jack) can be configured to control any parameter on any effect, so for example you could assign it to control the reverb mix, or delay length, or gain on a distortion, or anything else. Not sure if that might sway some people if they were worried about the flexibility, but it sounds quite capable to me.
    The only gripe I have about the Pod (without even having one!) is the fact that the wah option and the equaliser are 'fixed' and can't be swapped out for a different effect. I get having that for the volume, amp and cab blocks, but it seems a bit weird to me that you 'have' to have an eq in the chain. Anyhoo, looking forward to hours of fun when my new toy gets here!
    Keep up the good work man.

      Thanks Keith! When I do fx in parallel, i usually will blend a few together to make a bed of cool sounds. You can't do that without parallel, but its a super specific need IMO. And you're right, not a big deal at all. I have learned to love an EQ block because of the PG. Don't knock it til you get used to it! 😉

    As a bass player I can't decide between the Stomp, Effects or Go. I'm happy just running an EQ and IR as my cab sim so don't need the amp and cab models. Love the size of the Stomp, but i feel like i would like more switches. The Effects feels like like a great option as i would have the routing options and keep it quite compact., plus i love the scribble strips. The Go feels like a great 'throw on the floor and play' option, but i feel it would be too limiting.

    On another review the one thing apparently the Pod go cant do is if lets say you want a clean fender amp sound on the verse then on the chorus and solos you want a Marshall sound there is a slight noticeable delay while it loads it up which you dont get on the HX stomp. Correct me if im wrong as i havnt tried it but it could be a deal. breaker for some.

      cmg2491 it works fine. I never had an issue with the legacy delays and reverbs so I run the stomp into the pod, then run xlr out of the pod, I configured the switches on the pod to control blocks on the stomp, and just use the volume pedal on the pod before the delays and reverbs, it’s not a one piece setup but it almost gives me all the flexibility of a full helix since I’m offloading delays and reverbs and volume to the pod

    I think I could love the pod go but, I do not like that you’ve only got four blocks to do what you want so I think I would spend the extra money for the hx stomp and external pedals for the flexibility, but I’ve not owned either so I couldn’t say for sure🤔

      It is definitely a tough choice! I would go Stomp XL when it comes out if you dont have either yet

      Update: ended up getting a brand new pod go for a discounted price, probably because the pod go wireless coming out. I have to say after learning tricks on using perimeter changes between snapshots i love this thing and all the eq available! I know the stomp has midi and a few other things over the pod but for the money and depending on the needs, pod go would be tough to beat!

    It would have been so easy for them to let you adjust the input impedance (to make the fuzz pedals work) on the Pod Go en HX stomp. You can´t even do it with the computer. Just because they want you also to buy a Helix

      I believe that is an actual hardware thing in the HX stuff. So it would be difficult to put in i believe

    I literally just watched a video of someone using the pod go wet/dry/wet

      If you use the amp out feature, it can be done with routing. Stomp does it all in the Signal Chain

      Basically, people capture the sound of their real cabinets and microphone into a digital footprint. Its a lot more in depth than that, but thats the jist

    Wet dry wet totally doable with Pod Go.

    You didn't touch on DSP consumption

      Haven't run into an issue (yet). Maybe I will try to compare maxing them out for a video. Like i said, the video was to show what I've been doing with them and how I have used them. I haven't hit the DSP wall on either for my presets

    I don't know why people keeps confronting the two. The stomp is obviously very limited for a live use, if you want to use it on its own. The pod go is made for live, to be used pretty much without the need of any external stuff.

      Solid summary ! As someone who has been asked numerous times which product i would recommend they get, it was easier to put my thoughts into a video rather than have to always type it
