Patient is given sedative during the procedure because the Colonoscopic procedure is very painful and intolerable. I have seen this from my eyes. The doctor without giving any sedative performed a Colonoscopy and the patient was crying and yelling like anything. I asked the doctor as to why he does not give sedative to his patients while performing the Colonoscopy and he said that few people might want to vomit during the Colonoscopic procedure as well especially when the procedure is a full length Colonoscopy and in such cases we don't want the patient's vomit to reach his lungs in any manner. Endoscopy is a simple procedure but yes Colonoscopy is very painful and intolerable without sedative. Please suggest as to how many times in a year one must go for Stool Occult blood test and how many samples need to be given for the same and for how many days because when we go for Stool R/M then the doctor tells us to give the sample for 3 consecutive days.
