been reading reviews, watching vids of people with their rg8's... been skeptical about which will be my first.. and I just got sold watching this. thanks buddy
Wow, i found this guitar on eBay, watched 30 seconds of you video and could not resist to buy it immediately, before watching the rest of you really nice video. The single note riffs sound so - WOW. Actually i wanted to buy a baritone six string but found no affordable deals. I bought the Ibanez RG8FM-TGB in Transparent Gray Burst. It looks so beautiful for a guitar for that low price.
just ordered this guitar :D i am looking forward to it because i have been playin 7 strings for a couple of years now and i think i can master the transition :) i am so stoked, i can barely wait for it :)
Awesome demo! Found a guitar identical to this used for a steal price and wanted to see a review before I purchased. My first intuition was that I would need to order a set of better pickups because the stocks are probably terrible, but looks like based on your video I can get good tone without an upgrade. If I decide to swap them later, I'll probably use bareknuckle pickups. Thanks again!
I'm using the Angel F-ball Pre amp sim with the 412 XXL V-30 cab. Had to slightly lower the gain and dial the bass back quite a bit to clean up the low end. Also got a .080 gauge string for the bottom F# to prevent floppiness. Hope this helps!
just got it :D i really love it is probably the best guitar ive ever had :D and btw, keep posting videos, i like your stuff :) you are a good player :D
I went from 6 to 7, then 7 to 8 so I don't know firsthand how drastic the change will be. Ibanez does a good job of trying to keep the neck as narrow as possible on extended range guitars, so I'm sure you'll adapt but there will def be a learning curve.
I don't think they all do and it depends where you buy yours from. This guitar was a factory second and didn't make it to the shelves. As a bonus the seller included it in the auction.
I just picked up this baby at a pawnshop. The tag saud 235. After some haggling i took it for $115!! Im so syched about it!! Can wait to get home and try it!!
Hey! I use the M-audio as an interface for many things. My monitors, my guitars, and even if I want midi input from my Roland TD-3 drumset. It allows me to have a lot of control over signal input/volume and plus I think the A/D converters in the M-audio are a bit better than the pod. So I think it's just a lot more versatile. Hope this answers your question!
Hello. I am looking at getting one of these guitars soon and am wondering if your opinion on some things. Does it feel nice to play? Are the strings a comfortable tension or are they too loose? Does the bridge feel comfortable for resting and palm muting? Thank you very much for your help.
Dude this is absolutely awesome! I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this. xD Great tone for stocks. Would you mind if I were to use this as background music for something? Full credit will be given. Also thank you so much for making this video. It was very useful to me on deciding whether or not to purchase this guitar. I was really considering buying this guitar, and now I am fully intent on buying one. Thanks so much man!
Marco Polo I personally would go for passive DiMarzio pickups, but that's pretty much what I'm used to. Seymour Duncan also makes great 8 string pickups. If you go with the EMG 808's you might have to convert the guitar as the stock pickups are passive.
Those pickups sucks totally! If you put gating, little less gain and play only the lowest string, then ok. Look when the guy play chords. It starts buzzing and frequencies cover each other making one sound. You did great job man, don' t get me wrong. It is the best sound quality you could get from those pickups. I play on them for half a year too. One cleans is even worst. The fact that ibanez put that kind of shit into their quite budget but still standard guitar is a shame for the company.
So the original gauge isnt .80? I think im gonna get this instead of the black one.. but the headstock is black instead of white..damn..just notice.. Btw u personally have any suggestion for the gauge if im dropping this guitar to 1 key lower ??
I think the original is a 65. I've got one too. But I put 85's on mine. I had to actually unwind the wound string from the core string to get it to fit, but I've had them on since February. And they still have pretty good sound.
I am shocked how great the stock tone is! Are the pickups active or passive on this guitar? When I get it, I am planning on getting sentient and Pegasus seymour duncans for it and I need to know if i will need active or passive.
Hey! I went from 6 to 7 to 8 so I don't have personal experience going straight to an 8 string. The most noticeable change will probably be the width of the neck. It is huge, but after a learning curve you'll be fine :)
Hi man! Your videos is just great! BTW, what is your height of the strings on this axe, and do you feel comfortable to play it? I've just got my RG8 and I am a little bit nervous about fret buzz and height of the strings, which depends on build quality I think. Thanks, and sorry for my english!
Hey dude i got the rg8bk i swapped the 64guage string for a 74 but the whole guitar just buzzes all over did you have the same issue especially the low f if so how did you fix? I did notice the stock strings are really light does it help with a standard 46-10? Then custom 64 then 80 maybe i want to go eaeadgbe any ideas? soz for all the questions \m/
I had only played 6 strings, and I got this beauty.. cheap and a great guitar for the price. The mics might be a bit shitty, but you can get a great tone if you work with it :) it's totally worth it, but it will be VERY different from playing a 6 string, your fret hand is going to get sore, and you need to work on new placements for palm muting and such.. but that shouldn't be any problem if you just play it often :) I say go for it!
Hey, the case was part of a special promo because the guitar is a factory second (has some very minor cosmetic flaws and didn't make it to the shelves) so the case was free. I found the guitar on eBay so I don't think every place that sells the RG8 also includes a hardshell case. Maybe if you buy straight from Ibanez they'll supply a case for you.
I noticed at the end of the video you asked about pickups to switch to. I personally have fallen in love with the Nazgul and Sentient for Seymour Duncan.
Congrats on your new Ibby! The nut is not properly aligned with the fretbaord, but only by a millimeter at best. Didn't seem to screw with the sound of the guitar, but it's something that wouldn't pass quality control and make it to the showroom floor.
Great tone test! Proved that you can get a great tone out of this guitar! I just had one question about how you recorded, why did you plug your pod into your m-audio?
i played 21 years 6string guitar. yester day i bought rg8, it cost 490€, but that inclued thicker strinngs. i got .010-0.80. sounds amazing, and hold nice lover tunes. love this guitar :)
If you want to go Djent, drop tune and rythm... THIS!!!.... if you want to go versatile, soloing, stay in Standard tune... Jackson!!!... I own both, i preffer the JS328Q, it has a better sound all around
I really don’t understand how people get away with a 27” inch 8 string. I have a .084 on the bottom of my 8 string which is 28” and it still just seems almost too floppy to play. But the RG8 in this video sounds incredible.
your playing is so sick man. is this an original song? Logic doesn't alter your tone when you start it up? It makes my guitar sound robotic like... or like it's being double tracked. I don't dislike the sound, it sounds sick, but the fact that it only happens when I open Logic makes me uneasy :/. Never happened to you?
Thanks! I just threw together some riffs for this tone test. It's not really a song but glad you enjoyed it! Are you recording through an interface? If so I would suggest turning the "mix" dial all the way up so you are only hearing the output of Logic. You might have to turn down the overall volume to balance it out.
The stock pickups are ok, but they will be the first thing I replace. Output is way too high and distinction between lower notes isn't too great. I hear they are Cort bass pickups so it doesn't suit this guitar. Bridge is very comfy and neck is fast like any other RG series from Ibanez :)
What strings do you have on them now? Cause I've got the factory ones and I've dropped the 8th string to E and it's ridiculously floppy, looking for tighter strings like the ones you have here.
Charlie Ford From low to high: .080 .059 .046 .036 .026 .017 .013 .010. Right now I've got mine tuned to drop E. EBEADGBE, but I'm thinking I might need an even heavier gauge for the E. Still a little floppy xD
Emg 808 or some other active. Don't you wanna make a good tutorial wich make us playable on 8 string? If it is good i would purchase it in download able version.
Hey, man. Love this track and tone-test. I'm seriously considering picking up an RG8 and making 'that leap' over an 8-string (my Tele with fat strings on just doesn't cut it for riffy stuff!). I'm pretty much convinced! What tuning are you using?
Awesome, man! Really impressed. If you'd ever feel inclined to tab some of the key riffs out... *wink* I'm using C-standard / drop-Bb at the moment; the RG8 should be arriving tomorrow!
Sustain is not very good with these pickups and they are going to be the first thing that I replace. I saw somewhere that the stock pups in this guitar are actually Cort Bass pickups! Unbelievable! However, the rest of the guitar is surprisingly well built and solid. The bridge is very comfy and the neck is very fast like any other RG series guitar. For the price of around $300, you can't beat it!!!
Just got this guitar for my boyfriend. His birthday is coming up and gonna surprise him with his new guitar to shred on. Cool demo.
he playing it?
@@ryantaylor4196 All the time. He loves it.
@@RavenDanzig haha thats Good!
Cool guitar I have it! : ) chugg chugg chuggy wweeeoevv
you are a wonderful human!
Wish i could afford this guitar. :/ I need more 000-00-00-000-0-0-0 in my life.
it's around $600 right?
Old post but it’s only 400
I just ordered one from Amazon so I can properly play Mick Gordon's Rip and Tear.
Ikr lmao
I definitely would not want to order a guitar off of Amazon... Hope it turned out good!
Dude.....same. haha rock on.
Picked this up at a pawn for 200 and its as clean as this one in the vid. SOLID GUITAR. Sick Vid dude
been reading reviews, watching vids of people with their rg8's... been skeptical about which will be my first.. and I just got sold watching this. thanks buddy
oh look. djent. didnt expect that.
:0 (screaming at shocking joke)
Sorry, what is djent? ;-)
Congrats! You're gunna love the guitar and the transition from 7 to 8 really isn't that bad :)
wow you are the 5th person in a row that I have talked to that has spoken so highly of those strings.....im gonna try them out when my RG8 comes in.
Wow, i found this guitar on eBay, watched 30 seconds of you video and could not resist to buy it immediately, before watching the rest of you really nice video. The single note riffs sound so - WOW.

How did you fit the .80 gauge into the nut groove? Did you widen it yourself or take it in?
This is the video that inspired me to get an 8-string guitar.
I'm using the Angel F-ball Pre amp sim with the 412 XXL V-30 cab. Had to slightly lower the gain and dial the bass back quite a bit to clean up the low end. Also got a .080 gauge string for the bottom F# to prevent floppiness. Hope this helps!
really cool dude. im thinking about this same guitar ive had great luck with ibanez so far. sounded great
just got it :D i really love it is probably the best guitar ive ever had :D
and btw, keep posting videos, i like your stuff :) you are a good player :D
Nice job. Not over processed like every other video.
This sounds really good. Think gonna buy this beast.
Good to hear! Thanks for the comment!
That solo was good! Being slow doesn't mean it's bad.
Nice demo!! Killer playing!!
I just picked up this baby at a pawnshop. The tag saud 235. After some haggling i took it for $115!! Im so syched about it!! Can wait to get home and try it!!

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll do some research on those.
Good jam session bro! Sounds great!
Not crap. Just simple one. Great sound. I like the pups.
Hello. I am looking at getting one of these guitars soon and am wondering if your opinion on some things. Does it feel nice to play? Are the strings a comfortable tension or are they too loose? Does the bridge feel comfortable for resting and palm muting? Thank you very much for your help.
I NEED YOUR TONE! Sounds amazing.
Thanks man! Yeah you can go ahead and use it for background music if you give credit. Have fun with your RG8!!!
Seth Brownridge I have a question, would you change these pickups for EMG 808s ?
Marco Polo or Dimarzio?
Marco Polo I personally would go for passive DiMarzio pickups, but that's pretty much what I'm used to. Seymour Duncan also makes great 8 string pickups. If you go with the EMG 808's you might have to convert the guitar as the stock pickups are passive.
all right thanks for the answer.
Why upgrade the pickups? Sound good already and the djent happened. Once djent happens, you know it can stay.
Ya, Ibanez stock pups are the best for that type of shit. I personally would put DMarzio's in them
Those pickups sucks totally! If you put gating, little less gain and play only the lowest string, then ok. Look when the guy play chords. It starts buzzing and frequencies cover each other making one sound. You did great job man, don' t get me wrong. It is the best sound quality you could get from those pickups. They look kinda weird, do you think its possible to ditch them and put in some other passives, like the D-Activators?
sounds great does the 8 string feel big compared to your 7 string cause the neck width on this thing is like HUMMER wide
I am shocked how great the stock tone is! Are the pickups active or passive on this guitar? When I get it, I am planning on getting sentient and Pegasus seymour duncans for it and I need to know if i will need active or passive.
The pickups are passive :D

What's your thoughts on this guitar man? Worth spending a bit more or does it cut the mustard for you? Any cheaping out on the build quality at all?
I like soun, but I am not sure to buy one... do you recomend it? would be a good buy?
I like it! Sounds good!
Dude ! Kickass!
Nice Seth. Enjoyed it. Good tone.
Hi! Nice tone but i wanted to ask if you use the m-audio as an interface or not and if so why not use the pod hd itself as an interface?
Hi man! Your videos is just great!
BTW, what is your height of the strings on this axe, and do you feel comfortable to play it? I've just got my RG8 and I am a little bit nervous about fret buzz and height of the strings, which depends on build quality I think. Thanks, and sorry for my english!
Why does everyone hate on these pickups so much. This clip sounds pretty damn good to me. Maybe it's the POD HD making bad pickups sound good? :\
Rigid case a query that you use? I see it says ibanez but which one is yours? thank you very much greetings
Hey dude i got the rg8bk i swapped the 64guage string for a 74 but the whole guitar just buzzes all over did you have the same issue especially the low f if so how did you fix? sounds awesome man!
Hey :) what equipment do you use? It's impossible for me to get this nice clean djent sound
that sounds great. Really considering buying one. What gear did you use with the guitar for that crisp sound?
wow nice guitar, thinking about getting it myself, what did you use to get your tone? vst's ? or like a pod or axe fx or something.? cheers.
Thanks! My tone is just a PODHD recorded direct into LogicPro through an m-audio interface. In Logic I also eq'd the guitars a bit.
Seth Brownridge thanks for the reply man, love your ''twangy'' tone :D
I may have missed this somewhere in the video but is this with the stock Ibanez LZ 8 pickups?
definitely buying it
Oh man I have yet to do that on my agile septor 828. Tosin Status haha. Love your grooves man
Badass riffs but it’s still funny how happy the solo is😂
I had only played 6 strings, and I got this beauty.. cheap and a great guitar for the price. are you happy with the PUs? Many say that they changed them!
Ah, I remember watching this almost a decade ago, back when I tried to learn guitar, I did not succeed unfortunately.
it bulbs heavily
Max Löbner what do you mean?
Misha Mansoor of Periphery is also known as Bulb
Dude, I love this riff. You should definitely start a band. :D
Awesome, thanks man! Gonna try that today.
Sounds awesome man, what amp sim are you using? I've been having trouble getting the low end on my RG8 tight with my HD.
Hey, I actually liked the solo! Good job ;)
i would go for Lundgren M8 or DiMarzio PAF8 in bridge and ionizer in neck :)
I have one with a M8 in
this is sick bro! what brand of strings did you use?
NICE VID loved it ill be buying my own RG8 soon any tips for a new comer in the 8 string class?
Hey, the case was part of a special promo because the guitar is a factory second (has some very minor cosmetic flaws and didn't make it to the shelves) so the case was free. I found the guitar on eBay so I don't think every place that sells the RG8 also includes a hardshell case. Maybe if you buy straight from Ibanez they'll supply a case for you.
I noticed at the end of the video you asked about pickups to switch to. I personally have fallen in love with the Nazgul and Sentient for Seymour Duncan.
I never downtime and I hate downtuning so this would be my go to
So what was wrong with the nut? Did it cause fret buzz or what? Other than that nice demo, this has now convinced me to buy it.
Congrats on your new Ibby! The nut is not properly aligned with the fretbaord, but only by a millimeter at best. Didn't seem to screw with the sound of the guitar, but it's something that wouldn't pass quality control and make it to the showroom floor.
Does the black sound heavier since black is a more metal color?
Great tone test! Proved that you can get a great tone out of this guitar! I just had one question about how you recorded, why did you plug your pod into your m-audio?
Amazing tone!!
Hey bro did the case come with it? And what website did u get it from
love the tone man, you should try out an iron label 8, they are sick!
The stock pups are tolerable, but they will be changed very soon. Output is too high and tone can be a little muddy in the lower range.
buying this thing tomorrow!
Did you ever upload your pod preset, if so under what name. Thanks
I'm new to the 8 string..just got this exact guitar...what is a good tuning for the strings...also what gauge sounds good?
any input helps..thanks
I've got one too and I've got GHS 85's on it. Holds the if u wanna drop to E,A,E,A,D,G,B,E.
i played 21 years 6string guitar. yester day i bought rg8, it cost 490€, but that inclued thicker strinngs. i got .010-0.80. sounds amazing, and hold nice lover tunes. love this guitar :)
Im caught between this and the Jackson JS32-8Q.
this
If you want to go Djent, drop tune and rythm... THIS!!!.... if you want to go versatile, soloing, stay in Standard tune... Jackson!!!... I own both, i preffer the JS328Q, it has a better sound all around
great tone! Im curious about the cabinet in the podhd you used... was it a V30 cab?
Sick tone! In what tuning are you playing this? :)
Great demo! Was aiming for a 7 string but might end up with this, cuz why not?
I really don’t understand how people get away with a 27” inch 8 string. I have a .084 on the bottom of my 8 string which is 28” and it still just seems almost too floppy to play. But the RG8 in this video sounds incredible.
What tuning are you using? If its drop e you should go .090
your playing is so sick man. is this an original song?
Logic doesn't alter your tone when you start it up? It makes my guitar sound robotic like... or like it's being double tracked. I don't dislike the sound, it sounds sick, but the fact that it only happens when I open Logic makes me uneasy :/. Never happened to you?

If so I would suggest turning the "mix" dial all the way up so you are only hearing the output of Logic. You might have to turn down the overall volume to balance it out.
Yup! It's the first thing most people do with this guitar. Some pups may look weird w/o covers because the cavity is so large and rectangular :P
The stock pickups are ok, but they will be the first thing I replace. Output is way too high and distinction between lower notes isn't too great. I hear they are Cort bass pickups so it doesn't suit this guitar. Bridge is very comfy and neck is fast like any other RG series from Ibanez :)
What is this strings? Really good tone. Not DR?
Are the stock pickups active or passive? THanks
What were the factory strings when you first bought it? What gauges were they?
I have no idea, but they were floppy as hell even in the standard tuning. :P
Alright thanks :)
I play the Rg8 Euroblast Edition and its really great but this white is also fucking awesome!
Is this a good guitar for my first 8-string guitar ? I have only played 6 strings before
Emg 808 or some other active.
Thanks man! The tuning I used in this vid is standard: F# B E A D G B E. I've since tuned to drop E: E B E A D G B E. It sounds massive!
Awesome, man! Really impressed. If you'd ever feel inclined to tab some of the key riffs out... *wink* I'm using C-standard / drop-Bb at the moment; the RG8 should be arriving tomorrow!
If you look online you can get em for roughly $250 used
Sustain is not very good with these pickups and they are going to be the first thing that I replace. I saw somewhere that the stock pups in this guitar are actually Cort Bass pickups! Unbelievable! However, the rest of the guitar is surprisingly well built and solid. The bridge is very comfy and the neck is very fast like any other RG series guitar. Glad I bought this guitar before seeing this video, or I may not have purchased it...
great tone did you do any post processing?
Yup! F# B E A D G B e. I've since tuned my bottom string down to an E and I'm loving it.
does it come with a hard case? just curious.
Hey did you use an Axe Fx on this?
