Just have to say that anyone who knows vocals don't last forever, can't replace with new ones or just run down to GC and buy a new set. Steve did an incredible job to help Journey get back on the map during his years and Arnel propelled them back to places they'd never been before. Steve Augeri is an amazing vocalist himself but due to mother nature, we can't sing like we are 20 forever! Kuddos to Augeri for hanging in there like a true champ. God Bless!
@Michael. My thoughts exactly. Well said..
Arrival is one of the best albums ever...kudos to Steve's pipes but I do agree with you Michael.
Yeah... Arrival is an amazing album. Love every track! But you can hear he lost his umph... sucks. But age and such happens..
@@peterm4486 I agree!
I don't dislike Journey but I'm not a fan either. This is my first time hearing this person. I gotta say, he sounds like he's hanging by a thread, like he's about to lose his voice.
Steve A is a class act and gentleman. At a certain time he was the perfect replacement. He did well and he deserve respect for that. Even though at one point of touring it diminished his vocal abilities. Even in this video, we can see he didn't fully recovered (and may never will).
But hey, that's life. It doesn't mean he doesn't deserve our respect.
I wish him the best of luck.
Hes using a different vocal technique here hes making his falsetto sound thicker and more buzzy. In Journey he used to try to Chest voice everything which only lasts so long even for Arnel.
Yah, your right, even the great steve perry lose his voice because of night after night touring, another one is arnel pineda at sometimes lose his voice because thier band member dont care with thier frontman anyway they think they can be replaceable. But kudos to arnel, he manage to stay in 15 years with the journey even night after night gig
If you ever have a chance to meet Steve Augeri, do not pass it up. Possibly one of the nicest human beings. No ego, just personality. Not a bad word said. Just a great guy! My young daughter couldn’t hear him when he spoke to her, so he lifted her up and held her to talk to her, then set her on his desk. He brought my son around his desk to talk and sign merch. Great guy, he did a solid for Journey.
Dude, that was amazing. Are you kidding Me?!
One of the best ever...his time in Journey is underrated. That song he did with them on the Armageddon soundtrack is a banger!
I love his contribution as a member of Journey. I highly enjoy those albums they did great music together.
I like what steve agueri told arnel to just be himself take care of his voice; he be ok then
Great job on a great song. Thanks for continuing to sing these songs, Steve.
This fella has one of the best studio voices I have ever heard. Touring age and neglect have unfortunately taken their toll. But what a great vocalist
If Journey had not toured him into the fucking ground he wouldn't have had the issues he did back in the day. And honestly? They're starting to do the same thing with Arnel.
i agree ~
oh most definitely!...
I noticed Arnel's voice doesn't even hold a candle to what it sounded like in his 2008 Manila concert with Journey. I think that was close to the start of his career with Journey
Yeah, Pineda is falling off now as well. It's just a consequence of age and a grueling tour schedule. But in the case of Pineda they have built such a "success story" out of his being plucked from obscurity that they can't just toss him aside like they did with Augeri. That's not to say that Augeri wasn't compensated or taken care of during and post Journey, but it's going to be quite a bit harder to do the same with Pineda considering all the press hype surrounding his joining the band. They are already tuning down for the entire show with Pineda as well and he's still struggling to hit the notes.
agree 100%. Journey burnt out Steve Perry, this guy, and will burn out Pineda's voice also. High notes, tons of touring.
I loved Steve Augeri when he joined Journey. From his first note to Separate Ways at the Fox Theater in ST. LOUIS back in 1999 I was hooked. His be voice was powerful then, unfortunately there isn't much left of it here ☹️ Definitely an A for effort..
it’s weird I kind of like what he did with this song his singing is unique and underrated
I saw Steve early in his career with Journey at that time he was amazing! However a vocalist should be able to sing where their strengths are and the abuse of him having to go outside his range has hurt his performance over the years!
I think people need to understand this guys time with Journey before leaving harsh comments on this video. Dude had really bad throat problems because he toured so much with Journey back in the day. And despite all of that, really and truly this is not a terrible performance by any means. You can tell he's had voice issues but I've heard a lot worse from singers who have healthy voices.
Absolutely
So true. Unfortunately like Steves, Perry had begun to lose his vocals as well in the late 80s due to the heavy touring. Steve had his throat issues and you can tell he doesnt have it anymore, but this isnt a bad performance, not by any means. Theres many worse than him, I applaud the effort on his half.
@@the_console-girl-9778 Agree ! people say Arnel is like superman on vocals .. and don't realize nobody ever was put through what Perry was . On the Frontiers tour , in some of the big cities , they were playing 5 nights , in a single venue . Never having keys tuned down . You can see by Raised on Radio , he could no longer sing like the previous 2 tours with ease . If this had been Arnel he would be finished as their singer in one tour .
When he began singing for journey I was like that’s still Steve Perry he sounded almost similar to me in a way. He did a great job. My list goes Steve perry, then Steve augerie and then arnel. It took time to get use to Arnel but he does a good job too! At first I didn’t like him but I’ve gotten use to him and when I saw him in concert he did really well. Definitely miss Steve Augerie though. Good job!
Falseto sound "falsedad" in Spanish doesn't seem normal for Steve A back in his glorious days. But now, he utilizes a lot to maintain the tune. But it's good he's able to manage it to keep the music sung well notwithstanding in this part of the performance having merely entered the stage. Must have never been that way, but Steve Augeri had his legacy. Just like other rock stars...RESPECT.
He's had his day, and as with all vocals, they go away! It's the nature of the beast and sadly, he's already had his day. Even Steve Perry's voice has gone for the most part and he recognizes it significantly and has accepted it. Good luck, Steve A.
Are you a faux psychic? Steve Perry hasn’t at all lost his voice, it’s just lower. Dumbass.
Myself and my wife saw Journey in concert at least a dozen times with Steve Augeri as frontman. Saw them in 1998 in Detroit, in Augeri's first tour with Journey. His voice was AMAZING. At the time, I was THRILLED to see Journey on stage again, with Schon and Cain and Valery, and the great additions of Deen Castronovo on drums and vocals, and Steve Augeri. Augeri was AMAZING for about 5-6 years. We saw Journey in New Hampshire, in Massachusetts, in New York, in Connecticut, in Michigan several times, in Ohio, and all points in between. Our friends used to kid around with us that we were the oldest "groupies" Journey had. Then the ridiculous amount of touring Journey did finally caught up with Augeri. His voice deteriorated, and Castronovo started singing more and more of the Journey songs. The last time we saw Journey with Steve Augeri was in Connecticut, at the Mohegan Sun Casino Arena. Augeri had been reduced to playing rhythm guitar, Castronovo sang all of the vocally challenging songs, and Augeri sang the other songs. We knew the Augeri era was coming to an end, and we were very sad after the show. Like Steve Perry, Augeri's voice just flamed out. Steve Augeri was the PERFECT replacement for Steve Perry. He was a wonderful performer, and could sing the hell out of ANY Journey song, before his voice left him. To see him after he left Journey, such as this video from 2013, is a bit sad. His voice is STILL nowhere close to where it was in his peak Journey years, but he still has the same personality. Steve is a helluva nice guy. I am very happy, and sad, to see that he is still out there plugging away. Thanks Steve for the many magical years you fronted Journey. You resurrected my all-time favorite band, and for that I am forever grateful! There is only one Steve Perry, and there is only one Steve Augeri.
So nicely said. I connect with your story as it is mine too. I truly appreciated his time with Journey, he is a gentleman and I'll be forever grateful for what he did for my favorite band. He help put them back on the map.And he did it very well. 👍
And this one is totally GARBAGE!
@TheProfessorOfLife you’re ludicrous, Steve Perry’s voice never “flamed out”.You corporate Journey fans need to stop writing that kind of bs. He sang a beautiful David Foster song after he left Journey in 1998, co-wrote and sang a beautiful duet with David Pack in 2005. His voice is lower but it never “flamed out” that’s a total lie propagated by hardcore Journey fans like you. His 2018 album was a top 10 hit. LMAO.
I really like this guy and had the joy of seeing Journey with him and it's sad that his voice got hurt......a very special talent this guy has !
NO DOUBT ARNEL PINEDA
AND STEVE PERRY ARE STILL THE BEST.✌️ I❤️JOURNEY🔥
Yes Pineda is the only one who came close to Perry...vocal wise but performance wise I go for Arnel..Arnel just don't singing those high song he is running jumping while singing.. unbelievable stamina and vigorously doing it almost every night..🤟🤟🤟
True Arnel is best
Arnel stil in journey for 15 yrs now still amazing
Arnel? In the same caliber than Perry??🤦🤦🤦🤣🤣🤣
@@armandoribeiro918 yes!you can search old videos of Arnel Pineda and you will not disappointed sir...please💗Steve Perry is legendary,Arnel is great and incomparable
I will always love Steve Augeri! I think he was the perfect replacement for Perry back in the day. His "Arrival" album with Journey was amazing because he took Journey on a new journey with his own sound.
+isabellamaria914 Those words are PERFECT !! Augeri was superb on the ARRIVAL cd , which happens to be one of their best albums since "Infinity"...
I agree. Arrival is one of the top albums they ever did.
isabellamaria914 yeah, Arrival is very underrated. Very Good Album indeed 👌
You really made me change my mind about it. Thanks.
Nice but not strong projection. Big guy but small voice.
ONLY ONE, NOBODY MORE THAN STEVE PERRY
He did a good job by completing the song...
I'm an uber super Steve Perry fan, to begin with. Augeri does a pretty decent job and everyone's entitled to earn their living the the best way they can. My respect to the artist. Living in the shadows of one of the best singers ever must be really hard on ANYONE. Just wish Perry were singing live as well. NO ONE BRINGS OUTTHE MAGIC THE WAY HE DID ON STAGE LIKE HIM. But I can appreciate Augeri's talent.
Plus he's a super nice guy
To be honest...Steve Perry will always be the voice
I love Steve A
No no no no llega ni a los talones de el gran Steve Perry
Eu amo esse cara
.....Love Augeri
If you sing a journey song, you have to sound like Steve Perry or else it's not gonna sound right.
I am a big fan of Steve Augeri. I really like the Journey “Arrival “ record.
I also love him singing on the Arrival album. Especially “Live and Breathe”. When he was with Journey, I had the pleasure of seeing him sing here in El Paso,TX. It was incredible and that’s when he made a believer and fan out of me
Me too for me steve auguri is much better.than arnel..at steve perry
@@lemueldalanonchannel9718 how come hahah sorry only we know Arnel we don't know the rest singer of journey 😂😂 he change every 🎶 🤣🤣 look like he struggle so much every words of the song
Steve Augeri, he's struggling the songs. Words cant understand....ARNEL is amazing.
It’s the mic and it doesn’t help that it is outside.
@@Charlie_lives That isnt the microphone bud, thats his failing voice
Lungs luck of air. No wonder Nesl Schon look for a replacement. But he pays respect and visit Arnel.
@Entertainment Gaming Channel he is not doing as he normally does but it’s for sure the outside Venue and microphone as well trust me
Sadly he lost his voice🤔
With time and patience. With the right lessons and vocal therapeutics, one can become great again in vocalizations.
This is why Steve Perry has to come back now hello it is not journey without Steve perry
Hes not coming back even if he is he cant cuz arnel is the right guy for the job
@@joelsonsabado9206 Neal would put Steve Perry back in Journey in a heartbeat if Steve would agree to do it. Don’t kid yourself. Steve Perry IS Journey.
@@davidmerlin3344 Imo Arnold Pineda is a good fit to journey, possibly better than Steve Perry but I feel like people who only like Perry want him because of nostalgia but his creativity isn't as good especially in the later albums before he left.
@@davidmerlin3344 if steve perry wants to comeback? How? He cant even sing his songs. Lul
Hello don't stucked your mind in the past 60 years we are now in 2022 Steve Perry poor voice I actually see his video but did sorry he can't because of his age he can sing but not the same as in his prime days if he comeback I'm sure we all new journeyration fans we ignor journey it becomes a lullaby back in 1960s instead of rock band hahahah @David Merlin🤣🤣
Tony Hawk is killing it on the electric guitar.
he's sooooooooo good!!!
There will only be 1 Steve Perry....EVER
Can you bring Steve Perry back to replace arnel Pineda now?
But not now! Steve cannot hi notes anymore!
@@zedclarzedclar4542 He still sings, not the same of course, he's freaking 70 years old.
why is everyone acting like this isn't a solid performance? I can't think of one current mainstream male sing who can even sing this song pitched down
keyboardist 0:30 idk this part i think imma let the minus one do its job
cameraman: am i a joke to you?
Steve augeri go back to the journey☺☺☺
I'd be interested in him in a Rhythm Guitar / Backing Vox type of role. He doesn't have the voice for Lead Vox anymore but Journey has been severely lacking in the Backing Vox since Deen left.
Still good that voice control... He lost his voice but the the control not to get out of tune and his heart to sing is f... Awesome
I hope this concert was free.
Lol. Ouch.
Ahahahaha
😂😂😂😂
Big Steve 👍👍👍
Steve A the Best!!!
Lets just admit it people, after all these years ARNEL PINEDA is still the GREATEST journey vocalists in terms of longevity voicewise. Even the original - Steve Perry lost his too but so far Arnel still has his so Kudos to him!
Only because he actually takes care of his voice. And, listens to Jonathan Cain when it comes to vocals.
Though Steve's voice is not that great I love what he does with the melodies. Really stylish. If he took voice training seriously he could get his voice in awesome shape.
Even here, he sings his ass off… vocal issues be damned.
Im sure hes been to every voice coach in the world. Thats why hes still singing now. Before, he was finished but now at least he has a way to sing and still sound reasonably good.
Seen him two years ago cape cod. FAIRGROUNDS WAS AN AWESOME CONCERT
Everybody writes here that he lost his voice his voice is contratenor and perfect I think for this song.
Now in this case, I'd still go on steve perry even without the high notes, cause steve perry still have the emotion and intensity.
just saw him last night in puerto varas chile sounded great great band he can play guitar good to
Steve augeris voice is melodic as steve perry..
Kuya Arnel is the best artist.
Brilliant vocalist
This is incredible
despues de steve perry,lo mejo es steve augeri, estupenda voz, master!!!!
ROMMEL SANCHEZ sin duda alguna steve perry y augeri sin duda alguna y casualmente los dos perdieron sus voces
i doubt it..Pineda is the best replacement for Perry
Pure falsetto voice. No mixed voice nor reinforced falsetto that comes with chest voice sounding out (coupling) with falsetto, but at an octave lower. I suggest Steve tries to talk in chest voice.
WOW A bunch of fucking experts here!
THIS MAN IS A TREACHEROUS, BECAUSE HE WAS HERE IN CHILE 3 YEARS AGO SINGING THE SAME OLD SONGS OF JOURNEY, AND SUNG VERY WELL. I AM FROM CHILE ..HE WAS IN THE CASINO COQUIMBO ENJOY..HE IS EARNING MONEY MUCH BETTER BECAUSE HE LEAVES THE BAND , THATS WHY ARIEL PINEDA ,BELONGS NOW TO JOURNEY....I SEND ALL MY LOVE FROM COQUIMBO, CHILE
People get old. Vocalist suffer the most from this sad truth. Why is it so hard for people to swallow this?
He’s a very kind guy
Saw the band milton keynes 2006.fucking brilliant
Sounds great!
That's kinda sad. He tried so hard. I've always liked him. In fact, always thought he had such a unique voice for Journey. The fact that he was patting is chest while looking over to the side a couple of time just mad me feel really bad. He was truly a great singer.
who are you referring to? S.A?
This guy's voice appear to give up, having lost the power that is truly needed to sing this difficult song!!!
Arnel has a stronger voice but Steve A has stage presence
mike delabar Yes!And the first decent comment here.Steve is great on stage and Arnel?Well im not going to say anything about that.
Wrong both of you ..are deaf and blind...Arnel is the best second to Perry since he is the original vocalist anyway..let's not play stupid and dumb..🤟🤟🤟
yes arnel is amazing than him arnel he's small man but he have a big power great voice
nicove castro ...this Aguire guy doesn’t sound like Journey at all. Arnel Penida is such a tiny guy but has incredible huge pipes.
Mr. Steve Augeri. Un lujo ver y disfrutar una porción de Journey en su persona, después del querido Steve Perry.
I agree
MI GRAN PREGUNTA ES PORQUE JOURNEY INSISTE EN SEGUIR EL ESTILO DE STEVE PERRY
YA LA GALLINA DE LOS HUEVOS DE ORO SE ACABÓ PARA ESTA BANDA ELLOS TIENEN QUE SEGUIR SU CAMINO COMO LO HIZO STEVE EL SIGUIÓ SU PROPIO ESTILO Y LO CONSIGUIÓ LE FUE
MUY BIEN PERO ESTOS OTROS INTEGRANTES INSISTEN EN EL PASADO QUE FUE UN GRAN ÉXITO GRACIAS A STEVE PERRY PERO ESO YA QUEDÓ EN EL PASADO
POR ESO JOURNEY JAMÁS VOLVIÓ Y SERÁ LO MISMO QUE CUANDO ESTABA STEVE PERRY EN
LA BANDA YO CREO QUE ELLOS SE EQUIVOCARON EN EL CAMINO QUE PENA
POR LOS INTEGRANTES
DE JOURNEY :»
Que DIOS bendiga a
Steve perry POR SIEMPRE
Fans 2018 Stgo CHILE :
👏👏👍👍🎤🙌👍🎶👍👍
Steve Augieri had to drop out of Journey because of throat problems, I read. Still, he's third behind Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda.
D.H. Kim correcto Steve perro no continuó por problemas de su voz luego de mucho tiempo y luego este que casualmente fue igual y ahora está arnel que también lo está haciendo muy bien
I miss you journey
In fairness to Steve A: Journey songs are real high notes. We know the rock and roll never dies but rockers do die including their voices. No matter how famous were they during their heydays, voice will deteriorate because it's basically produced by muscles and muscle weaken after 26 years old. You can only slow down its deterioration.
But with Steve Augeri after so many years still surviving on the stage, he deserves a credit... and he's a great singer. "Higher Place", "All they Way", "With your Love", Signs of Life", "Remember me" and so much more to his honor. Perhaps James Labrie of Dream Theater has a better regimen for his voice that's why he's dominated over his voice deterioration..after all these decades.
Man, his voice is just gone. Watching older performances he is much stronger than this. Unfortunate.
yeah his voice is shot..
But it gets better every year, you should hear him now
Ok this is not Journey. Sounds different. Fair enough. Personally I wouldn't attempt to sing that song, as it's too obvious the singer can't do the song justice.
He lost the voice
Arnel is the best replacement of journey
He is doing it but even Steve Perry would have to dial it back
Whew he finished the song.
NO ONE WILL EVER AND I MEAN EVER BE AS GOOD AS STEVE PERRY
Everyone loves the kid Journey has now, I prefer Augeri. 10x more emotion in the performance, plus he didn't try to mimic Perry's voice like the new one does, he made each song his own. Poor guy's voice is done, though, too bad
Idol augery from ph
Could anyone tell me the truth about what happened to Augeri's voice over time?
I know he had vocal wear from the long tours with Journey but he was supposed to have recovered with time, what was his problem? some problem with the vocal cords because I don't understand it, he doesn't have sustain in any note practically
tao bom quanto Steve Perry ! Grande vocalista.
nice steve augeri!!! like his style
Steve A. has a similar voice but Arnel has a better range.
Omg. He could harldly hit those high notes. Not a power vocals like Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda.
Yup, doesn’t sound to good....
Arnel Pineda is the perfect replacement for Steve Perry.
@@dragonfly6217 🤟🤟🤟 very well said
Damn. Is that LP on backing vocals??!. 😮 5:03
I think sounds pretty good.
ofcourse perry is the best. but I love arnel giving the perry vibes when I closed my eyes.
very good
journey songs are fucking hard to sing...I salute arnel that he last 10 yrs with most number of tour..
Steve Perry has done the most shows out of all the Journey lead singers to this day. The band tuned down for Arnel many many years ago.
@@yslauren8337 Arnel start with journey in his 40s while steve start with them on his teenage life..so how about that. Dont worry i can hit this sing easily..
@@adrianoadriano5104 actually Steve Perry started when he was in his late 20s. I was just responding to the original statement which was incorrect because Arnel hasn’t toured the most out of all the Journey singers and he lasted 10 years unlike Steve Augeri because the songs were tuned down in 2012 and the band hires a backup lead singer to help him out by singing a few songs. I know that Arnel was in his 40s when he joined the band. Try reading the whole thread next time. LOL.
Steve Augeri was 39 when He replaced Steve Perry in the band. Arnel was 40 when he replaced Augeri.
even steve perry can't sing this song right now....
He probably doesn't want to.
Of course he can't he's 68 years old. Although I am postive he can still sing his heart out. I seen the footage of him singing with the EELS and he sounded fantastic.
Yeah...
Chris Mennella Steve Perry himself said he can sing all his songs a half key lower in recent interviews. The Eels performance was a warmup and he sang them differently, more bluesy. David Bowie never sang Heroes the same way, and Robert Plant reinterpreted and sang Kashmir differently too for every performance. It’s boring for the singer to sing the songs the same way for decades.
I don't know whose worse Arnela from Bogota or this guy from Brooklyn. Arnela always puts mic out to crowd during the hard part. I dare Arnela to sing MESSAGE OF LOVE.
He is still good
Bwahahaha
1:55 SA be like : WTF??? I SAID LOWER DOWN MY MONITOR
He is good, but I prefer Arnel. More powerful voice and greater vocal range.
Time to call it a day mate
i loved him from AI, shame that his voice got worn down, but it will come back.
From a musician's standpoint. Does not sound good.
How can anyone say this guy is good. He isn't even a good singer.
Journey is a vocal killer. Coming from a vocalist.
Sorry he is fine but the voice is not for big concerts. Big guy but the voice is soft. Sounds like he's struggling. Not quite the voice. The audience looks bored or what?
Absolutely
He's a good replacement for Paul Stanley of kiss instead
Good singer, good fit for Journey when he was there !
love this cheezy what i call "formula pop song"!!!!
No body can't take the place of Steve Perry the lead singer of journey hes the one who song this one n many more. Don't know why this guy song it n he was not the original singer of this song.
