"I have access to the darkness, but I choose to stay in the light", brilliant. Love him.

My heart wrenched watching this, such a beautifully spirited man still standing after all this time. What a hero

What an amazing survivor,he could so easily have been destroyed by such a childhood, incredible that he's managed to become the person he has.

I knew of Alan Cumming but never really paid that much attention and have a friend who adores him. As I watch multiple interviews with him, there's something warm and beautiful about this man. Glad I'm getting to know him... as much as you can on youtube.

I love the way she asks questions. -Like she's talking to the human he is instead of "a star."

Just finished reading his memoir he is truly a survivor I respect him because he hasn't allowed the abuse his father inflicted on him and his brother and mother break him

I've never read a book, other than Kafkas a letter to his father that brought me as much comfort and discomfort about a subject very very close to my heart and life.

I've enjoyed watching Mr. Cummings performances for as long as I can remember. There is something very engaging about him.
I too grew up with an abusive family, and because of my own background I can empathize with Alan Cummings experience. They all have passed away now, which is a relief; I'm sorry if that sounds terrible, but it is...a relief. Now, that I have the freedom to do so, without any interruption from my family that is no longer here; I found some very interesting things about myself as well as my family. Thank you Alan Cummings for sharing!!!

Dear Ms. Buttercup, Have you ever opened up your home, gave all your money ( low wages here ) to help a woman & 2 young get free? Yes I did.
Those are beautiful, calming images to believe that practical & lasting help is readily available to folks in the most die

Oh sorry for the skip. most desperate needs. Victim blaming is cheap and easy. Solutions and aids are what's needed. PS. Thank you for caring.

When people have such a traumatic, abusive upbringing, they usually have difficulty in relationships in their later life. I wonder if that's true of Alan.

Why didn’t Alan’s mother protect her two sons, she should have left the violent man who was her husband, or hit him with a shovel. I cannot understand why she stayed, surely she had some relatives who would have taken her in. Shame on her.

To the person speaking of the other adult, this case mother, being able to save her children and herself, you speak from a blissful ignorance.
Give generously to Safe Houses. Demand of our legislation the property addressment of domestic abuse

@@maryannehenderson6023 don’t you think his mother was to blame aswell. Why didnt she leave with her two sons . If she had no relatives to help, there would have been other options, the police, social services, the Salvation Army and other refuges.
