I sat here thinking back to the early days when you did not want to react to music like Kenny Rogers. You have really grown in your musical appreciation. It has been an amazing journey to watch. Keep spreading those wings.
You’ve done a lot of Kenny Roger’s, but none of his early stuff; back when it was Kenny Roger’s and The First Edition. Check out “RUBY, Don’t Take Your Love To Town”, from1969.
I know this is a long comment, but: Lionel Richie gave Richard Marx his first job in the music business when he was 17- singing background vocals on the song "You Are" on his first solo album. He ended up singing background vocals on a couple more tracks on that album and his sophomore album. Lionel then recommended Richard to Kenny Rogers. So in 1983/84ish, Richard was doing backing vocals for some tracks on Kenny's "What About Me" album. Richard overheard Kenny talking about how he wanted a ballad for the record, so he went home that night and wrote this song and came back the next day and showed it to Kenny. And so, Richard's songwriting career began! Richard Marx also co-wrote the album's title track with Kenny and David Foster. He tells both of these wonderful stories in his memoir. Fun fact: Him and Michael Jackson are the only two artists to have songwriting credit on a number 1 hit in four-straight decades. This went #1 on the Country Chart and What About Me (Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Kim Carnes trio song) was a #1 AC chart hit.
Hey J, Still snowed in here in Ky and due 6 more inches. Hope all is well. Kenny is def smooth. Kenny and Michael McDonald gives me the same feels. So calming, beautiful. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
@@retired4365 Stay safe and warm. We got what looks like a foot out on our deck, but news said we got 6 to 8 inches. Thursday and Friday due 6 more. Most everything closed, but its beautiful. Im in the country so much slower clearing things. Take care, Peace
@@sandraturner4539 Im also in northern ky 25 mins from Cincinnati and we r buried in, being out here in the country takes longer to get cleared, specially when we're getting 6 more. Stay safe and warm.
It was actually cowritten with Richard Marx who was a session musician and backgrond vocalist for Kenny at the time and it was produced by the giant, at the tinme,David Foster
This the first song my husband and I danced to at the country bar Pappas, where we met. He had it played at our wedding 4 years later. Fabulous song amazing memories for me. We are still together, too.
J...we gotta love Kenny, don't we? To hear something very different from him check out Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition Was In. Long title, true that, but it grabs you. It's his pre-country days, with a psychedelic sound to it when he was with The First Edition. There's a video on YT with a live performance and...he has long dark hair. Check it out.
Richard was doing background vocals for Lionel Richie and overheard a conversation between them I believe. And offered the song to Kenny. Richard's dad wrote commercial jingles for Doublemint Gum, Tuna, and a few others. Some influence there =)
I don't think that I have ever heard Kenny Rogers at this high a pitch before. I am used to his deeper, calming voice you can just relax into. This was nice, but at first I had to really think hard to know it was him.
Talking of writing great songs at a young age. Suggest "Return to Pooh Corner". Kenny Loggins wrote the original "House on Pooh Corner" when he was in high school. Years later after having children, he wrote a final verse and renamed his beautiful song "Return to Pooh Corner". This is a magical song & I can't suggest enough "Return to Pooh Corner" written by both a teen age & adult Kenny Loggins. Thanks for today's reactions💜
Hearing any of Kenny's songs brings back memories of my preteen and teenage years. He was the first country artist I knew of and always loved his songs and the stories they told. I especially love his duets with Dolly especially their Once Upon a Christmas which I bought the cd years ago and I still have it.
Love Kenny Rogers. He is my favorite male country singer and Crystal Gayle is my favorite female country singer. Would love to hear reactions to some of her songs.
If you haven't you should play a couple of Kenny's duets/collabs like with Dottie West, What Are We Doing In Love and I Feel Sorry For Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight and Kenny Rogers, Kim Carnes and James Ingram's, What About Me.
Kenny Rogers has songwriting credit for Crazy alongside Richard Marx, though Kenny once mentioned that his contribution was changing just one word of the song. It's amazing how even the smallest tweaks can leave an impact on a classic track!
I've asked you multiple times to get back to KENNY ROGERS but always suggested specific songs. I know you love your kids and Kenny has 2 great songs to listen to if you are a parent. In no particular order.. 1) THE GREATEST 2) BEAUTIFUL, ALL THAT YOU COULD BE *please react to them*
Check out Kenny Rogers and The First Edition What Condition My Condition was in. It is a little different than his other songs. He started out with the Christy Minstrel's then The First Edition before he went solo.
I've listened to a lot of Kenny Rogers back in the 80's but somehow I do not remember this song. Thanks for playing this. Also, if you didn't know, Kenny Rogers has been on the Big screen as well with movies like The Gambler, Coward of the County, and can't forget 6-pack where he is a race car driver.
Knew you'd like this one.Turns out Lady and Islands in the stream are the first and second song to ever hit number 1 on the country charts and billboard popular music charts. Richard Mark's writing talent was discovered by Lionel Richie.
Kenny Rogers (and Johnny Cash) were my moms favorites. I heard his songs all the time growing up. He had such a beautiful voice Lady was her favorite. I love this one and You decorated my life...it always makes me think of my kids ❤️
I've always liked "They Don't Make Them Like They Used To" from the album of the same name, a good mid-80s pop album from Kenny, it's also the theme song from the movie Tough Guys (1986) with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Speaking of Richard Marx, movies and Paul Anka; Marx wrote "Say It" for Anka from the movie No Way Out (1987) with Kevin Costner.
A good Christmas song by Kenny and Dolly is Christmas Without You. The RUclips is done as a skit about an American flyer in England during WWII. I just love it.
A later Kenny song---"vows go unbroken/always true to you" is stunning and sounds exactly like a song John Denver would have written. It is marvelous. See if you agree.
❤🎶❤ Jay, you would love the Kenny tribute where he is honoured by Dolly as host in "Kenny Rodgers All in For the Gambler" (2021) with guest Lady A Little Big Town, Chris Stapleton etc. !! It's an amazing show 😍

"Love Will Turn You Around" another Kenny classic.
Yes, another great one.
You should go waaaaay back and check out Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Just Dropped In, it's from 1967. Totally different!

YES! I was just going to suggest "Just Dropped In". Also a big fan of "Reuben James".

Saw Kenny Rogers with Ronnie Milsap and the Forester Sisters in September 1987 at Hershey Pennsylvania
Recently ran across a song I had forgotten about. A duet with Kenny and Ronnie - “She’s Mine.” Great song and two of the BEST voices ever.
Also, you should be biased about Islands In the Stream because Barry Gibb wrote it.
