- After months of controversy and five Grammy wins for “Not Like Us” last week, Kendrick Lamar graced the stage at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans for the Apple Music Super Bowl 2025 halftime show. Kendrick’s halftime performance started with an introduction by actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam. The stage was built to look like it had PlayStation controller buttons. The tone for the show was set early. He performed 11 songs including "Not Like Us."

What did you think of Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime performance?⬇
"Kendrick just opened his mouth, someone hand him a Grammy right now" 🗣️🔥
meh
It was crazy
@@XXLMagazine ts was art idgaf what anyone else says kendrick’s unique. this industry is a business, he’s just proving his knowledge and understanding of the whole market.
Made my Black History Month a great one 🥳🥰Some times you gotta pop out and show niccas ❤️🔥
"They love to sue."
Kendrick Lamar
I'm not going to lie. I was pissed Lil Wayne didn't perform, but Kendick did not disappoint. He killed it. I loved it. I'm a huge Weezy fan, but my son loves Kendrick, so sometimes we bump heads lol 😆
@cjones093009 as a Wayne fan we got to be realistic. Can you name 1 performance Wayne has ever done that shows he could hold down a whole superbiwl performance? That man always looks leaned out, slurred, and just stands on stage yelling. Carter 5 is one of my favorite albums of all time but it seems delusional to think anyone would enjoy Wayne standing on stage jumping and yelling. And what songs would even be appropriate? The average Wayne song has the N word so many times you would half to sleep half the song...
@@DH-zk6hq too many to name
@@kingdavidischosen he used to be “it” lil Wayne has no real message. Kendrick had many messages in this.

Wayne thought he was entitled to the Superbowl? Wayne is a legend but he is nowhere near as hot as kdot.

My friend and I were losing it. Epic
Choosing Kendrick over Wayne for this moment was the best decision
Running around all over performing without back track! Amazing ❤
He definitely had a back track
@@adrianpale2342 are you sure you know what a backing track is?
@@onesolopolo4194
Why don’t you enlighten us? What qualifies as a backing track?
@ backing tracks are pre recorded songs that play behind an artist, both to enhance vocals and supplement the heavy breath-work involved in a live show.
Rappers use backing tracks so they can leave out words to take a breath and the word still plays over head, this also helps to keep the rapper in sync with the song.
Kendrick leaves words out to take breaths and there is no backing track behind him, the word is just left out - not just with this performance, but notoriously all his performances.
The only time he uses a backing track is on parts of the song that he cant perform - due to the limitations of only having one mouth.
@@onesolopolo4194
Wouldn’t you agree that a backing track can be “without” vocals. Where do you think the music is coming from? Do you think there’s a band backstage playing that? This, my friend, is a rapper performing to a backing track. It may not have vocals but that’s what it is. Some words were left out because of profanity and some words are left out for crowd participation. Let’s not pretend he couldn’t perform to a backing track that is different than the album recording. Either way, the performance still sucked. lol 🤷🏻♂️
Winning multiple Grammys and doing the Super Bowl in the same week is actually insane bro
It was no surprise. We all knew he was gonna perform not like us
terrible choice
Why is my man standing on the hood of a grand national? Lord. GNX?
A lot of folks seem to be missing just how political charged and targeted this whole performance was. Drake was a footnote in it.
@@Americanbadashh THANK YOUUUUU! It’s driving me insane that it seems like everyone is missing it
Ever since Trump won, this kind of "messages" don't matter to people. Democracy is the only "politically charged" action that matters.
Yeah, Kendrick's overt racism was loud and clear.
Couldn't miss it.

I understand most of y’all Drake fans don’t know hip-hop, but these things happen (rap beef). He lost, just move on lol

It’s being called the worst performance in history of the superbowl 😂

Some rappers have substance often, and others dont
He'll probably get an Emmy for this performance

@455zzz who is calling it the worst? The art critics? Or just.... you know - the casual middle America listener?

I think KL was the correct choice. With that said I would have loved to see Weezy pop out and show ...
The Wayne situation never made sense. Since when has the Super Bowl only had performs from the coty they were at? Wtf? I don't even follow sports and don't live in the US and even I knew that. Maybe a coincidence sometimes in the entire history of it but never a rule.
👑WESTCOAST👑 Back on top. Thank you TDE thank you KDot. 😤🫡😎
Little Wayne is not the hottest rapper right now so no, he should not perform
people are just gonna hop on the bandwagon and say that just because everyone is saying so lmao
How was this a surprise? Not like us is the whole reason he was asked to perform at half time.
Nicki got no right to be saying, "Denying a young Black man" because it was a Black man chosen over another Black man.
I think Kendrick did a great job @Supebowl half time. Great choreography
Lil Wayne does not say anything. Kendrick is the voice for the moment we are in right now. Lil Wayne can’t come close to voice of the prophet Kendrick.
Wayne I love you but ya mom don’t even watch the Super Bowl .
Kdot killed it
I honestly couldn't understand anything he was mumbling
If you’re truly a fan of hip hop idk how you didn’t like this performance

-Kendrick Lamar
A compilation of things folks have already written about the performance:
“Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance was a powerful and intentional showcase that blended music, political commentary, and cultural symbolism. The performance began with actor Samuel L. Jackson portraying Uncle Sam, introducing Lamar with the exclamation, “Salutations!” This choice set the stage for a performance that delved into themes of American identity and societal expectations.
Throughout the 13-minute set, Lamar performed tracks such as “GNX,” “Squabble Up,” “Humble,” “DNA,” “Euphoria,” and “Man at the Garden.” Dancers dressed in red, white, and blue accompanied him, symbolizing patriotism while also highlighting the tension between national pride and criticism. Jackson’s Uncle Sam character intermittently interrupted the performance, labeling the dancers as “too loud, too reckless, too ghetto,” and reminding Lamar to “play the game,” underscoring the societal pressures to conform.
A significant moment was the performance of “Not Like Us,” a track known for its critique of cultural appropriation and its role in Lamar’s public feud with Drake. Notably, certain words were omitted from the lyrics during the performance, possibly to navigate ongoing legal disputes. The song’s inclusion, especially after winning Song and Record of the Year at the Grammys, reinforced its cultural impact.
Guest appearances by SZA, who performed “Luther” and “All the Stars,” and producer Mustard added depth to the show. Tennis star Serena Williams was also seen participating on stage, further highlighting the performance’s cultural resonance. Both of them used to date Drake
Lamar’s attire was deliberate and symbolic. He wore a leather bomber jacket by Martine Rose, light denim jeans, a backward baseball cap, and a glimmering chain. His dancers’ red, white, and blue sweatsuits served as a subtle political statement, reflecting the performance’s exploration of American identity.
In summary, Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show was a thought-provoking performance that used music, fashion, and staging to comment on themes of identity, societal expectations, and cultural critique, solidifying his role as a storyteller on one of the nation’s biggest stages.”
Like it or not, we’re talking about it and trying to figure it out. 🤷🏽♀️

I grew up going to concerts watching rappers wave towels around on stage while rapping with their background vocals . Kendrick did phenomenal 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I’m disappointed in Wayne for h8ting on a younger man that was one of his biggest fans. To be envious of someone who admired you is so pathetic to me.

everyone saying it was legendary is right its goning to be a long time till we see energy like this again in rap or hip hop
Naaaa Lil W. it doesn’t work like that. Just because we want it doesn’t mean we get it. I remember your relationship with Trump and the comments you made about your experience as a Black man. That alone makes me disqualify you. KL earned this.
No one is peeping the a minor chain come on man Kendrick is the king of symbolism

Leave Kendrick alone; the man single-handedly crushed a Super Bowl performance, so only a hater, probably a Drake fan or someone who still thinks vanilla is the best ice cream flavor, wouldn't love his shows. This gossip is so hot and juicy, but Drake's lawyers are probably already drafting lawsuits as we speak.

What’s funniest is Trump is too dumb to understand any of the symbolism Kendrick was using
PSN down Kendrick hacking the people
I would have had more than one performer, woulda put Wayne in the lineup for the his hometown, but the problem is the percentage of natives at the Super Bowl is little to none and the % of total viewers being from New Orleans is also little to none, and Wayne isn’t hot right now and has no new music that I know of, I don’t see how it was ripped away from him, I didn’t think it was his to start with or loose. He seems to have a new fire so people are probably getting some new music.
Good lmao thats what he gets
lol I wanted to watch the Actual performance and instead I got a over loud narration of what happened. What’s the point of this video?
