- Western Union Band, a 70's famous band from Singapore. This is their hit song Sausalito. This is in memory of Chris Vadham, lead singer of WUB who passed away in Feb 2007.
Send me your e-mail add., if you are interested in the MP3 format. Guitar tabs & chords now available. Thanks to Mr. Wang for the suggestion, otherwise I'd never have written it down.
i am 63 years and still remember these Band
A long time ago when I was still young I was in a lift going up to a place called SPARKS which was a popular entertainment venue and Mr . Chris Vadham enter the lift on the way up to same location. Having known who he was I was just so happy to have had to privilege to see him and ride in the same lift with the man. Then when i started my music career I was again bless not only to meet him again but to share the stage with this wonderful man. I will never forget you Mr. Chris Vadham and every time Sausalito is played by anyone it brings tears to my eyes and smile to my face both at the same time. No one has ever been able to cause such a sensation and I don't think anyone ever will. Thank you for letting me into your presence while you were still around and share time with you. Always with love and respect for you till we jam again in the great stage in the sky. Cheers
a local favourite! to me at least!
Chris Vadham used to record Malay songs too. His most popular Malay hit is Hanya Nyanyian Dalam Sepi. You can check this title on RUclips. If I'm not mistaken, his brother Moses Vadham is a singer too, also recorded Malay songs.
💞💞💞😢😭😭😭🙏 I miss this Super band 🥰
Thanx for the information.
I heard this song for the first time in 1978.I was 16.
I was misguided n told that Western Union Band was a native American band.

And for those who could not afford the ticket for a rock concert at NT those days there was the hill top at FC where you could just stand around or sit to take a peek at what's going on inside and btw the music was loud enough to hear as well to enjoy for free.
It's umpteen years since I first heard it.
Nostalgic and I feel old now.
Me too! I'm 70 now. It was one of my favourites.

I absolutely love the 70s too. The 60s as well but the 70s has a special place in my heart.
I started Listening since 1995 and till date 01/04/2020 - During Covid-19 Lockdown :)(New Delhi)- Another fine clear and sunshiny day
The late Chris Vadham recorded Malay song in his solo album too. His greatest Malay hit in Malaysia is Hanya Nyanyian Dalam Sepi (It's Only A Singing in Loneliness), recorded in the early 1980s.
I never ever grow tired of listening to WUB and the late Chris Vadham's songs.
Love this song so much! So much nostalgia. The one and only WUB! The best of the best in Singapore pop history.
Can't believe it. I finally found and heard this song again. Almost 40 years ago while I was studying at SJI!!!
My favourite band in the 70s.......my childhood friends used to sing along during big jamming

Loved this song when it was popular in the early 70"s. Was amazed by the strong, clear vocals and the beautiful melody. And in 2008, I finally visited Sausalito - a nice place in San Francisco near to the Golden Gate bridge.. bring bad memories of my secondary school days and my friends then....
thx mr.keithyoong, dis my fav song wen m 13yrs, waiting 4 dis song tru xsistor radio...those were d days.....
This song was part of the soundtrack of my youth in the 70s, frequently heard on the radio (Radio Ceylon in those days). I've searched for it for years without success until today. Thanks keithyoong. Much appreciated for helping revive the memory. I had no idea, too, that WUB were Singaporean. Those days it was, expectedly, mostly American and British songs with a few Dutch bands too. What a breath of fresh air to know Asia was represented, too, so impressively & melodiously.
One of ,my favorite all time band

Totally agree
My classic rock cover band The Fast Colors love doing this amazing song!
I am so pleasantly surprised to find interests in old local music talents in 2020, so here's a little trivia. Looking back there was a time when trying to earn a decent living as a "local thorough bred band" aka "cari makan" those days, was like swimming upstream against the strong tide. It was a time when rock music and long hair were frowned upon, discouraged and banned officially in Singapore because of its connection with drugs and so on. In fact, if you were spotted with long hair you would have been served last at government departments and stopped at the airport. Despite the odds, some still made it and this band would be one of them. The best gig a local band could wish for was a contract with a local hotel in Orchard Road to play at their lounge bar or night club. Then may be, they may get a chance to cut a record, yes a 12 inch vinyl with EMI (Reggie V's studio))and to have it promoted by Radio Television Singapore (RTS) at Caldecott Hill or by Redfussion was like a dream come true like striking 4D. Enough trivia, there. Good luck.
Brings me back to the carefree days....no money no problem.... happy go lucky
You're welcome Dr. Yea, sad to know Chris is not here anymore. He's playing his guitar and singing in heaven. Will look it up someday soon. Thanks.

greetings from Singapore! thank you for this marvelous song and its lyrics.
in 2006, i'd sold my Western Union Band's 12-inch vinyl LP record, We've Got Love (EMI Hong Kong Ltd, 1978) to someone who'd been looking for this LP for 12 years.
he was very happy when he came to my place to pick up the LP, and he told me he'd even gone to Hong Kong to search for the LP but couldn't find any.
Welcome Gina, sure brings back memories, doesn't it ? It's a nice song. Now you know where to go to whenever you want to listen to Sausolito.

Thanks a bunch again Keith. Appreciate the trouble. Cheerio!
Favourite WUB song of all time!
I still have the vinyls record with me
Western Union Band, October Cherries, The Strollers....all great bands, wonder if they are still around. Maybe can get them to group together and do a concert.
One of my favorite songs. I thought the band from US or Australia. Great.
keith - Many thanks for this. Fantastic band and sad to hear that Chris has passed. I knew his brother, Moses quite well and all the old bands in Spore. I left Spore 20 years ago. Doubt there are any bands as good as these in the 70s and 80s. Yes, knew Adam and Ben really well. Gingerbread, Jat Ali when they used to perform in Changi. Is Anywhere still there Zul and Alban? Cheers for the memory.
Thanks for the intreresting info, Katong Boy. We as fans of WUB, October Cherries, The Strollers, etc., have to do something to show our appreciation one way or another. RUclips is definitely one. Keep in touch.
Keith
Hello Keith May i have the MP3 version. Thanks
Thank you Keith I was an Oct Cherry (& Surfers) I like WUB & the Strollers btw Chris was a very good friend do you know he played with the Cherries in our final tour in India when Peter left band
Loved this song and still do. Reminds me of the early 70s when me and my younger brother were crazy over pop music. Thanks for uploading.
Last night I watched Moses & Gabriel & a friend play this tune, They did Roses as well. Nice. very nice. They're at Filling Station until end August.
Chris Vadham's brother, Moses Vadham is now jamming at Bar None (Marriot Hotel, Singapore). I've been there for so many times and never realised that this song was once from WUB. Moses is a very charismatic & talented artist ..... do catch the band 5 Series @ Bar None if you drop by Singapore..... cheers!
Cool wow I miss Chris (RIP) I met him when he joined the October Cherries as I was the drummer then and now after all these years I'm with his bros Mo & Gabe

大好きです
Hello dear, how are you doing?
It is a lucky day to meet you here
We were in Junior High in Penang... smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. Got really drunk and puked our guts out. Hungover and went to morning class at school pretending that we were sick. It was a mess, but it was fun. Singapore and Penang were still an under developed islands... Fanfare used to be my favourite weekly magazines to check on Msia/Spore top 40 music... Those were the days. Every Teenager who could speak English was humming this song and it was playing on the radio every few minutes for a few months... Truly nostalgic
And thank you for watching. Yes it's true. There are still many die-hard fans of WUB out there. Glad we are not alone.
Will look up the song "Paper Roses" and shall inform you when it's up.
Cheers mate.
Fyi, the man behind all the sound mixing of WUB was Sg famous sound engineer, Mr Vincent Lim who was the beloved father of Prof Jamus Lim. The Workers Party MP.
Thanks keith. This gonna be nostalgic not just for me but all WUB fans as well. Wonderful memories for sure.
@waffamd It's a pleasure. It works hand in hand. A great song plus your wonderful memories from back then. Thats what makes life. Cheers.
