It may well be that everything comes together in a combination of an instrument and a perfect composition by J. S. Bach.
I think that is the case here with this Vox Humana 8' from the Hinsz organ in Kampen [NL].
This Vox Humana 8' sound is almost unearthly beautiful because of its extraordinarily lilting and melancholic tone.
BWV 208
BWV 208, also known as the Hunting Cantata, is a secular cantata composed by Johann Sebastian Bach for the 31st birthday of Duke Christian of Saxe-Weissenfels on 23 February 1713.
The aria "Schafe können sicher weiden" ("Sheep May Safely Graze") is the most familiar part of this cantata.
It is Bach's earliest surviving secular cantata, composed while he was employed as a court organist in Weimar. Was this cantata intended as a gift to Bach's employer, William Ernest, Duke of Saxe-Weimar, for his neighboring ruler, Duke Christian, who was an avid hunter?
Bach stayed in Weißenfels in 1713
Bach was appointed royal Kapellmeister in 1729, but this position as court composer did not require residence at court.

Bach verbleef in 1713 in Weißenfels

ORGAN
The oldest pipes in the organ (especially the flutes 4′ and 2′ of the Bovenwerk) probably come from Jan Morlet (1629).
In 1676 Jan Slegel completed a new organ, using materials [from Jan Morlet (1629)] from the old organ.
1694-1712 Johan Duyschot maintenance.
1741-1743 Albertus Anthoni Hinsz performs these activities:
new organ case
renewal of all wind channels, drawers and mechanisms.
Registers were added.
1788/1789 H.H. Freytag and F.C. Schnitger Jr. manufacture:
Free pedal (8 registers)
Borstwerk with 4 voices, playable from the Bovenwerk keyboard.
The Dulcian 8′ Rugwerk moves to Borstwerk.
In Rugwerk on vacant place, Fagot 16′.
19th century Van Gruisen, Scheuer, and Naber work on the organ.
1866 Zwier van Dijk gave the Borstwerk its own keyboard and added registers.
1967-75 restoration by Bakker & Timmenga organ builders, Leeuwarden.
Eight registers from around 1820-1866 remained on a separate windchest.
In 2000 the instrument was “revitalized” by Orgelmakers Gebr. Reil.
The pipework has been checked, the 7 expansion bellows have been connected to the wind machine, the mechanics have been adjusted and repairs have been made.

Thank you for your nice comment
Absolutely beautiful - brought tears to my eyes as so much of Bach's music does! Thank you
Such sensitive playing and a wonderful organ....God bless you and your ministry in bringing joy to the hearts of believers!

maravillosa interpretacion fantastico desde malaga mi mas cordial felicitacion.- Luis Maria
Fantastic! Such colour in those reed pipes
Thanks
What a beatiful registration!
An excellent piece of music brilliantly played
Bijzonder mooi gespeeld.
Dank. Ja dit orgel is geweldig
Brillant! Et votre talent Monsieur..!!!
Wilhelm, the Vox Humana stop is second to none. It is a well crafted organ.
So unbelievably wonderful ! ❤️
Oh the beauty that is Bach. Of course, props to this man playing the organ with hands and feet, that's right! Yes, enabling us to resonate with the transcendent rapture of JSB.
You grasped Bach's serenity in such a lovely, almost playful way!
Thank you
thousand things in every tone. this music is alive! thank you so much!

Love the sound of the organ and how it resonates in its grandiose surroundings. WONDERFUL!
Top..
My professor assigned this as a listening piece for part of the music appreciation curriculum and i have to say I've never really sat and enjoyed classical music like this. Great Stuff !
Thank you
Heel mooi gedaan !
Charming!
So now I have a garden full of sheep 🐑 eating my lovely cabbages , thanks 😉
Yeah, thanks for your comment.
I am totally transfixed by this, a beautiful piece played beautifully on a beautiful sounding organ. I keep coming back to this particular performance and just love it. And I normally listen to rock!
Thank you.
***** Thank you for your comment.
Jez Howell
Jez Howell But all decent prog rock had it's roots in classical music.Just listen to Genesis for example.Rock on Bach, Beethoven et al.
This guy is Remarkable! Well done sir.
Mooi;)
Dank voor je commentaar
Sublimior! Muy buena ejecución, gracias!
I can hear how well Bach improvised from a theme in this piece.
I love this song! Great job!
I love your channel. My mom does, too--she had a stroke 3 years ago, and I often put on your playing to help her relax and clear the cobwebs out of her head. It's a blessing from God. Many thanks to you from the other side of the Atlantic!
Thank you very much for your impressive comment. I do like that my videos can give pleasure to your mother, that is great. Thank you for letting me know. All the best for you and your mother, she has a good taste please tell her that. There are also 3 live concerts videos. Perhaps she like that too.
Prachtig
Perfect gebruik van Vox Humana !!

Thanks Steve.
Beste Willem,
Brilliant!
Thank you
Just amazing!!!
Prachtig Willem!
Groeten, Justin vd Heuvel
what a great interpretation... congrats mister van twillert
Thank you
If it were a rock consert, me be goin ' WOOOOOOO, right now!! ;)
Piękna muzyka:)
Love the sound of that organ.
Thank you. This organ at Bolsward is indeed one of the finest in the Netherlands. Thank you for your comment.
You're a very talented organist Willem. Thanks so much for sharing your version of this wonderful piece of music. It's very moving and uplifting and you can feel the grace of the Holy Spirit throughout it.
Looks heavy action, especially with the couplers. Like your interpretation.
This is actually the perfect speed for this piece (which I am, in fact, aiming for on the piano), and to be able to do this demonstrates much skill in playing the organ. Also, whoever said you played too slow is just jealous of your tremendous talent.
I recently tried to play the organ and the pedals are definitely an adjustment, even for a 10-year pianist. The organ truly is a grand instrument and you are my go-to source of videos for popular Lutheran classical pieces (I attend a Lutheran church and we often hear pieces like Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and Sheep May Safety Graze). Congrats for the amazing job!
Thank you for your nice comment.
Exquisitamente agradable a mis oídos.
I enjoy recordings like this one but as true audio files understand, it's almost impossible to record such a magnificent instrument and transmit through any kind of electronic transducer. The in person experience can't be replicated.
Even though this wasn't originally intended to be a "religious" (or rather Church-based) cantata by Bach, I always hear this played more often around Christmastime. Fleece Navidad!
Amazing,amazing,amazing!
Mr. Twillert is a phenomenal Bach organist. I grew up on E. Power Biggs and have almost every Bach organ he played. I have compared all organists to Biggs. In how the tempo, style and registration is. Mr. Twillert has much the same
I like that particularly in my younger years I was and I still am a fan of E. Power Biggs also a fine name for an organist BTW
Beste Willem,
Just perfect.... thank you Willem.
❤️
Thanks for the upload ,- performed perfectly as all of your uploads have been (at least from my perspective), im here in the US and (with sacred music, specifically organ ) i wish there were more people exposed to the organ- !(beyond this almost ubiquitous assumption that these are antiquated instruments that sit in the church ) and/or take an interest in the music that Bach, Vivaldi, St. Saens, etc wrote for this magnificent instrument. - ☆*sigh * ' - oh well , their loss!!!
Thanks for the links to sheet music in the description , that is an oft 'overlooked' issue as more and more people seek digital , or other means to acquire sheet music. I just read your history today and i could tell by the performance of the Bach "air" , that you , at the very least - were an incredible organist. Ive yet to listen to one i wasnt immediately impressed with. I do play , -28 yrs piano and maybe about half of that - venturing onto the organ (Allen) at my Presbyterian Church in NC, and really just recieving a few pointers from the forner organist. I can only one day wish to play (somewhere near your level )and travel to Europe and where all of these fantastic organs reside. Thanks again for the uploads
Thank you for your detailed comment and thank you that you like it and made a comment. My pleasure.
❤️❤️❤️
A bit faster for my taste, but still I like your performance because it's also beautiful in its own way! Thank you and may God bless you and your loved ones!
Yes the choice of tempo is always also a personal matter. I am very happy with the tempo I have chosen for this composition. Thank you for your comment
@@WillemVanTwillertOrganist Agree with You, Willem. Heard other playing it slowly, no. Your tempo just the perfect one! Respect.
It's only slightly too fast. Lovely tho.
IT SEEMS THAT GOD IS EMBRACING ME E BLOWING ME ON CLOUDS!
I would like to loop this video for 10 hours
Please do. Thank you for your comment
@Improvisata
Prachtig!
Dat is mooi. Dank
@kabouter1983
I generally love your interpretations, but this is one of the greatest performances of all time.
That is a big compliment, thank you
Bach composed this cantata for Sunday service, as he was the Director of Music in Leipzig and and had to compose cantatas every week for Sunday services, as well as teaching.
Bach was a busy man.
Indeed he was. Unfortunately Bachs work was after about 1735 in Leizig less admired.
erg mooi gespeeld.
Thanks Martin.
hier is dat orgel nou voor gemaakt!
This is terrific!!!! I love it!
there used to be a beautiful version of Jesu bleibet meine Freude played by Mr. Van Twillert. The uploader was Bogert100 but he seems to haveclosed his account. Is there ANY way we can get this amazing version back up on you tube? Please.... ? The world is not the same without it.
Bach was a prodigy in pursuit of mathematical perfection of music without any compromise for flattering the powerful and wealthy (unlike Mozart), yet having managed to create such sweet tunes quite like this.
But Mozart composed music that is even good anove for heaven itself .
@@jeanpierredevos3137 In my humble opinion, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, Symphony No.39, 40 are exceptionally natural. While others are.....
Thank you Odd Point Of View Productions for your comment.
I agree with +soundnicetome that this is slightly on the fast side. Of course this is a personal opinion, there is no right and wrong. In any case, a beautiful transcription, beautifully played on a great organ.
I searched long for a perfect tempo and I am glad in my way that I found te right tempo for me. In my opinion you can better play a little too fast as too slow.
It's all down to personal preference, I quite like the tempo it is being played at.
Yes it is, as I also stated. The piece is none the worse for being a little faster than you usually hear.
Fascinating how with two hands three rows of keys are activated. Whoever developed this mechanism must have been truly genius. All mechanical?
Yes to developed an organ in this way and to developed all instruments where we mankind can play on, is a real wonder. Thank for the comment
Obviously tracker action, using a coupler
That was purely awesome! Awesome!! Whoever is the one person who disliked this piece is just an idiot.
Thank you for your comment and taste are different for people, no problem you
can not satisfie them all.
Bach's Whist Sheep May Safely Graze, using the Vox Humana to replicate what the choir or soloist would sing
That is so beutifull!
Where can I find the song music notes?
I saw some quite interesting looking pipes. What are they actually?
Vox Humana pipes. These are short resonator pipes that imitate people singing or the human voice.
Just love it. Gotta ask what arrangement this is?
The arrangement is from André Isoir, unfortunately sold out. [Ed. Fuzeau, France. Réf. 5520]
