I just got off the Bill yesterday. This was my 4th cruise to Alaska and this itinerary provided the least amount of time in port that I have ever experienced. I think I beat you by $20 however and spent zero in port. I was fortunate to go on the tram in Juneau and took a hike up to the snow from the observation tower. That would have cost me $50 but I used that up with the $50 excursion credit I had. Fortunately, it was the one beautiful day of sunshine for the 7 days as well so I timed that just right.
Again thanks for good info. We may do a whale watching excursion but they’re all so expensive and we’re traveling with our son, DIL & 2 grandkids so it could easily get out of hand!
Which port are you thinking of doing it in? Juneau? It's a risk to wait to book, as they may sell out, but I would almost want to wait to see how many whales you see from the ship. When I did the cruise in July, we saw hundreds of whales throughout the week.
@@journeywiththejaneks it seems like Icy Straight Point is the only port where there’s enough time for an excursion. Since we’re going in July maybe we don’t need to do it & just hope to see whales etc. from the ship 🙏🏼
@@judyklock7597 If you want to do an excursion and see the port, then yes Icy Strait Point is probably the only one. The others I think you would have time for an excursion, but not an excursion plus exploration time. When we went in April, that port was awesome, whale very close to shore, seal, sea lions... lots of wildlife at no cost. Definitely check out the shore when it's low tide. That's an experience you won't forget with all the strange critters... and it's free.

Thank you for your comment. I know I wasn't imagining how little port time we had. Absolutely insane.

@@journeywiththejaneksthanks again for your help!
Thank you very informative information, in Sitka you mentioned a shuttle is that complementary and do you get it right when you get off the ship?
If you are cruising on Norwegian, all of the ports except Icy Strait Point require a shuttle to get from the port to downtown.
@@journeywiththejaneks I’m cruising the first week of October of this year
@@gloriaguerra3942 Awesome! Your trip may be similar to our experience, with limited excursions and a lot of things closed.
@@journeywiththejaneks so there’s a shuttle right there in Port that’s complementary in Sitka?
Yes, it's the only way to get downtown from where NCL docks.
What is adventure lab?
You can Google Geocaching Adventure Lab to learn more. I wanted to go more in depth, but unfortunately it's only available show on mobile devices.
