    The Life of a Hero
A Pirates of the Burning Sea Film
    Peter Wessel Tordenskiold (Thundershield) October 20th, 1690 -- November 20th, 1720.
Peter Wessel was born in Trondheim in Norway on October 20th, 1690. He was the tenth child of Alderman Jan Wessel. Peter Wessel was a wild, unruly lad who gave his pious parents much trouble, eventually stowing away in a ship bound for Copenhagen. Here, the king's (Frederik the fourth´s) chaplain Dr Peder Jespersen befriended the boy and sent him on a voyage to the Danish colonies at the West Indies (St. Thomas), and to the East Indies (Trankebar). While Peter Wessel was away on the slave ship "Christian Quintus" headed for St. Thomas, the Great Northern War broke out (Denmark, Norway, Russia and Poland assaulted Sweden as a "counter attack" of Sweden invading Denmark a few years back.) In early 1711, Peter Wessel was finally granted a vacant cadetship. Peter Wessel was, on July 7th, 1711, appointed 2nd lieutenant in the Navy and shortly afterwards became the captain of a 4-gun sloop "Ormen" (The Serpent), in which he cruised about the Swedish coast picking up useful information about the enemy. He also commanded the 6-gun vessel "Lindorm", and earlier, was 2nd on the 26-gun frigate "Postillion".
