Boston without Porzingis, relying on rim protection from Tillman (barely bigger than Luka), and Ole man Horford (not much verticality left) …. …. the paint looks incredibly inviting to Dallas. I expect Boston to switch up some defensive schemes in game 5, and to see plenty of gortat screens from Tillman and Horford on Boston drives. Should be a great game ! Taking Dallas in a much closer game.
And one thing not talked about here is the foul discrepancy between the Celtics and Mavs this game. Mavs literally got twice as many calls than the Celtics.
Rich for any Boston fan to complain at this point when history shows that they're damn near guaranteed a win at this point whether you want to bring up 3-1 comeback stats or 3-0 comeback stats. I wasn't able to watch this game but I suspect that this is not as true as you claim. Just because a team gets more calls than the other doesn't mean anything other than they committed more fouls than the other team. I'm not a fan of either team and I don't care which team wins but I have been turned off of the series from the inconsistent nature of the foul calls in general. The refs can't seem to decide on letting the game be physical or call it by the book. I don't think the calls have been egregious enough to claim rigging (some obviously will) but they have 100% favored Boston over the series as a whole. Mostly because of the nature of the games though. The Mavs have been down big at multiple times in this series so inconsistent calls (assuming the calls are not targeted) will obviously hurt them more. The onus is on them to not be down big if they don't want that to happen.
This was amazing. Also love pointing out that Gortat screen because ever since JJ and LeBron talked about it I have loved the concept. Currently attending a 2 week basketball camp with my younger brother and I hope that more than fun videos that teach me how to read a professional game, I can actually try to apply some of these.
Simply put if you think this Celtics team will get outrebounded by 15 and shoot 30% three more times in a row after the historic season they have had you are delusional. They didn't go up 3-0 because they got lucky, or 10 wins in a row bc of luck. Yes, Dallas played better and with desperation, but they weren't suddenly 36 points better than the team that went up 3-0 on them. It was their desperation combined with the let-up of a team that relaxed because they are up huge. They shouldn't have been so casual but it's a wake-up call and they will not ignore it. They've been too good all year at a historic rate to slip up three times in a row. The numbers simply don't lie.
Ben, your next video should be a one-game deep dive showing every single time a player visibly complained to a ref. And also baited/flopped. It would be interesting to see all the complaints and flops in a row to get a sense of just how far they’ve both gotten. The average complaints per play might be like 2 or higher. And it’s insufferable to watch.
It would literally be Luka clips the majority of the time. It sucks because Luka is so talented but complains way way too much like some other superstars do
Ben creates content people actually want to see. Not a video dedicated to whining about officiating, or to players whining about officiating. Get better suggestions.
To be honest I don't see how conceding stuff like this is gonna lead to 4 straight wins. Next game Boston is going to make the quick pass on the help and eventually they'll hit their open 3's.
@@alexstrom3099this is a good point. I think folks assume Boston only loses games when the 3 is off. Even in the modern NBA, you have to be able to score in the paint. You can’t just assume you’re gonna always hit 20+ 3s a game and win solely off of that.
The entire NBA makes an additional $40,000,000+ PER NBA finals game. That’s advertising, tickets, merch, etc. The incentive to have a finals go four games is basically non-existent. There is likely pressure to increase the number of games each playoff round.

Mavs defense has been good. And here, their adjustments are even better. Jrue finally didn't play like Shaq down there because there was always a big. Celtics might need time to adjust, so I won't be surprised if they lose game 5.

Would love to hear on these what you think potential counters are and maybe draw the differences on the screen. Interesting to see how the chess match plays out in playoff series
8:25 it actually wasn't Horford's screen that collapsed Josh Green. It played a big role, but only incidentally. The real damage was done by Tatum's left hip bone. I can't be certain where exactly the damage was done, but i do know it was either: - Green's upper inner thigh (a painful place to take blunt force trauma) - Green's left groin (even more painful) - Green's frank and or beans (yet even mor painful) Wherever it landed, there was no give at the point of impact because Green was mashed up against an immovable brick wall. He absorbed every ounce of that force. Im inclined to think it struck his member because immediately after the collision, Green does what every guy does when they take a nutshot: his hands reflexively move to shield it as he howls out in pain, his knees quickly buckle inward (again, a reflexive action to shield) as he collapses straight down Or maybe im wrong about all that and Green's actually just an elite flopper
Good job by Mavs to catch the Celtics sleeping and play a great game. This crazy talk about The Mavs coming back because they won a game is total nonsense though The Celtics did exactly what they should have done got 2 at home and got 1 of 2 on the road. Boston is sitting pretty no way they play like that again. I expect them to play a great game and end this thing Monday.

Great view on the way Dallas improved their defense but the weirdest issue in this finals was on the other side; the way Boston was able to stop Dallas from scoring and under 100 points. This match both issues were solved but a view on what Dallas did to overcome their offensive issues would also be appreciated.
Mavs blew them out by 50 and still didnt shoot well. They can sbsolutely win in Boston. If the 3s finaly start falling they can absolutely push it to 7 and see what happens.
The first quarter had some interesting officiating. But the simple truth is the Mavs came out like their season was on the line and the Celtics did not match that energy after the start of the game didn’t go their way. The Cs looked like players forced to be out there. No boxing out on rebounds. No rotations on defense. No ball movement on offense. A lot of home run 3s put up. Didn’t even look like the Celtics we have seen in this post season at all. But whatever the reason the Mavs came out and beat em down. Credit is due
The Celtics could see in the first quarter they weren't going to get calls. They tried but after they saw it continue into the third they packed it in and decided to rest for game 5.
Not true at all. Boston was doing terrible at finding the right read off a double or help in the paint. Poor shot selection and even worse passing decisions.
the change in how they play..lukas fighting hard to stay in front..so the help d is very helpful..after the last 3 games i didnt think he could adjust..but the mindset..of contesting..came alive in game 4..with this attitude in the finals..its a competition..
They're not in trouble because Bostons home court will be ready to erupt and they will be roaring the whole game, Boston wasn't locked in at all they gave up in the 1st half, they're gonna be completely locked in defensively as their record all season and postseason would indicate. Mavs didn't unlock anything they couldn't already do.

if you can close a team out in 4, you close a team out in 4. you don't wait to do it at home. you do it when you can because what's not to say Tatum's ACL explodes in game 5? Brown gets a 1 game suspension for a Flagrant 2? Horford can't go because he gets sick and has to isolate? Point is, you never leave stuff like this to chance. If you can finish a team off at the earliest opportunity, you do it! The Celtics were able to do that vs Indiana on the road last series. Why not in Dallas with momentum and history (156-0 after a 3-0 series lead in the Finals) on your side?
Celtics lose because they played at a much slower pace than before and on top of that Mavs made a lot of 3 points, it's clear they want to extend the series for business reasons or to just win at home.
If the mavs win game 5, I’m a believer. Celtics have not overcome any adversity this playoffs and a 2-3 lead going to Dallas is a lot of pressure. Also, a game 7 on your homecourt while giving up a 0-3 lead is a lot of pressure too.

its a good breakdown on what the mavs did but it wouldve been nice if you called out all those non-foul calls on the mavs. Its easier to play interior defense if you can trip, kick and hack on drives. The celtics were pretty much reduced to having only 1 way to win: make jumpers and they didnt make them.
I really think monday is the series. If the mavs somehow win it then i truly think they can demoralize the celtics enough to win game 7. Id still heavily favor boston in game 5
Dallas has won 9 of the last 12 quarters and 5 of them by more than 10 points. That included one game where KP played. The celtics are going to blow it. Bet on it.
Porzingis would tear apart this "roaming big" type of zonal defense. The thing is, I doubt we will see him play any mins for the rest of the Finals... but if he can, that should be Game 5, Boston desperately needs him
He was available for Game 4, so I am confident he will play in game 5 with a few more days to heal. But he definitely is the key to beating this type of defense.
Mazzulla and the celtics know this, so they will make porzingis play in game 5, even with pain killer. Because if they lose game 5 situation will be complicated
Seeing every significant play being broken down still shows you how dynamic and deadly the celtics offense is and how they generate so much easy looks, mavs will have to play perfect defense again
The refs allowed the Mavs to get away with a lot of fouls this game. They let them be super physical against Boston. Everytime someone drove on Luka, Luka used his hands or knees to keep them from getting around him clean. The refs allowed him to get away with a lot of fouls in this game
Like they did on the other games to the Celtics? They pushed around a lot, in fact in the 3rd game when Mavs where recovering there was a pretty blatant foull with a push in the back. It happens because it happens, as soon as boston looses one game there comes people whining.

Not going to take the merit out of Boston, they are the best team, but stop bitching about refs when they are one of the teams with more leway with refs, especially on defense.
@@Ooze27 lol. Luka cries everytime he misses a shot or gets ripped. He flops a lot and falls to sell calls constantly. Luka also pushes off on every drive to the basket. Tatum don't flop, he probably should but he plays straight up for the most part. He only cries on blatant fouls, and he gets fouled a lot. If you look at the film you'll see Luka fouls on most of not all the plays when the Celtics drove on him but the refs let him get away with it. The refs should be better the next game in Boston
I was thinking of a fantasy scenario where a sports reporter says "hey Jason: you're at the top of your game and on the biggest stage. You've worked your whole life to be here. You bring your son to all your games so he can watch you compete at the highest level. You wear the same uniform as sports and civil rights legends like Bill Russell and Sam Jones and intense competitors like Kevin Garnett and Larry Bird. Can you look into the camera and tell the world how it feels to throw a game so that Adam Silver can collect more TV revenues?"
Before game 4 I heard that Porzingis will most likely be coming back, and if that is true then I don't see the the Mavs winning any games. Porzingis just unlocks everything for Boston, and there's a reason the Mavs only started their one-man zone in game 3, it will never work with Porzingis because you can have a wing guard his 3 all you want, his shot is still very much money with a 6'7 player right in his face.
Boston is definitely still favored in the series, but damn that performance was disappointing. The Celtics could potentially end the series in 5 games and still end up with a negative point differential.
What I'm seeing is that the Mavs Defense played with more tenacity and were the far better team in this game. However, from what I also see the Celtics missed a lot of open shots, had bad spacing at times, missed open shooters several times, and missed a lot of layups that they should have. Not saying that it would've changed the outcome, but in almost every review you can see either an open shooter, a brick shot on an open shot, or an in and out layup. I would say they'll fix some of this in the next game.
I think you’re referring to the lingering smoke from the pregame pyrotechnics. Took me a while to figure it out too. If that’s not what you meant then I have no idea.

And one thing not talked about here is the foul discrepancy between the Celtics and Mavs this game. Mavs literally got twice as many calls than the Celtics.
@jonjones9917 yea it was ridiculous honestly. I’d be happy if they just didn’t call any fouls but they literally called for only one team

They hit as much 3s in 4 game as in every other game they won in series. But without points in a paint even Boston can't win. As simple as that
exactly what I thought
@@alexstrom3099this is a good point. I think folks assume Boston only loses games when the 3 is off. Even in the modern NBA, you have to be able to score in the paint. You can’t just assume you’re gonna always hit 20+ 3s a game and win solely off of that.
Scott Foster won't be officiating game 5

Ya,This game was honestly a "burn the tape" game for both teams. Nothing to be learned when only one team got off the bus
If Celtics played well, this would've been a 10-20pt win for Mavs. Mavs were playing a good defense even when they were up 20+
8:25 it actually wasn't Horford's screen that collapsed Josh Green. It played a big role, but only incidentally. The real damage was done by Tatum's left hip bone. I can't be certain where exactly the damage was done, but i do know it was either:
- Green's upper inner thigh (a painful place to take blunt force trauma)
- Green's left groin (even more painful)
- Green's frank and or beans (yet even mor painful)
Wherever it landed, there was no give at the point of impact because Green was mashed up against an immovable brick wall. He absorbed every ounce of that force.
Im inclined to think it struck his member because immediately after the collision, Green does what every guy does when they take a nutshot: his hands reflexively move to shield it as he howls out in pain, his knees quickly buckle inward (again, a reflexive action to shield) as he collapses straight down
Or maybe im wrong about all that and Green's actually just an elite flopper
Good job by Mavs to catch the Celtics sleeping and play a great game. This crazy talk about The Mavs coming back because they won a game is total nonsense though The Celtics did exactly what they should have done got 2 at home and got 1 of 2 on the road. Great view on the way Dallas improved their defense but the weirdest issue in this finals was on the other side; the way Boston was able to stop Dallas from scoring and under 100 points. This match both issues were solved but a view on what Dallas did to overcome their offensive issues would also be appreciated.
Come on. The Mavs managed to win one at home. That's it. It prevented a sweep and I'm glad it did. But they can't win in Boston.
We'll see they have to play that same intensity of defense in game 4 and hit all open shots

If Boston hit their shots this would be considered bad defense. They are pretty open looks that Boston wasn’t connecting
Not really. Most were partially contested shots. It looked like they missed a lot of layups but none of them were super easy ones

@@Ooze27 the Celtics were getting fouled on mostly every drive. It took them out their game and they didn't cry like Luka during the game or after.

How much of the Maverick's success in Game 3 is due to a change in strategy, and how much is simply due to extra effort born of desperation?
This shit aged like milk LMAO
Before game 4 I heard that Porzingis will most likely be coming back, and if that is true then I don't see the the Mavs winning any games. Porzingis just unlocks everything for Boston, and there's a reason the Mavs only started their one-man zone in game 3, it will never work with Porzingis because you can have a wing guard his 3 all you want, his shot is still very much money with a 6'7 player right in his face.
Boston is definitely still favored in the series, but damn that performance was disappointing. The Celtics could potentially end the series in 5 games and still end up with a negative point differential.
The only adjustment that happened was Silver begging the celtics to let this go to at least 5 games
