As someone who was in a foster home environment that seemed like they were only there for the money, I want to thank you for being such a positive impact for kids going through really traumatic things.

Feels like there should have been a positive to balance that negative. Just “sorry” on behalf of a system YOU are part of seems a bit too negative and self defeating. It’s one thing to be trauma informed and another to rub it in?

Amazing example of hearing the child “go off” and then offering to take them for ice cream. That is so accepting and loving.

this is reassuring as an aromantic/asexual (meaning: i do not feel romantic or physical attraction to anyone of any gender, but am just as capable of platonic love/friendship as anyone else) who would like to become a foster parent in the future but was afraid that that wasn't possible because of the fact that i will never get married or be in any kind of romantic partnership

I’m not a foster parent. I’m not at the age where I could be a foster parent. And I’m definitely not in a place to be a foster parent rn.
But I love this content. It’s incredibly interesting. Thank you for all that you do.

I'm not a Foster parent, but I have always wanted to be one. I am working through my own trauma and not at the right place in my life to foster. I also wasn't sure they would expect single people. This is one of the few things I always wanted to do, even as a kid. This is such great content. Thanks to you and Peter both.

Keep holding on that wish to become a foster parent. For me personally that wish helped me to become better. Mentally and physically, I started therapy, I started cooking healthier to train for parenting. I read a ton of books and watched many videos on child raising and psychology. Learned more about trauma and helping people with it, and it helped me too.
I think in only a few years I will be in a place to become a foster parent and I look forward to it so much.

I have a question. I thought that any and all adults that interact with children in the foster care system have to be vetted somehow. So I'm wondering how this might play out in getting short-term babysitting help, or the neighbor having the kids over to play, etc? Do all the neighbors have to be checked out also by the social worker or someone?
