At around 19 or 20 years old, Sohyang found her faith. In need of a place to rehearse her singing, she was offered the use of a nearby church by the pastor's wife. She quickly grew close to the family, and even started dating the pastor's son. One day, at a dawn prayer meeting, she received a divine message: "If you don't get married, there will be no reward." Considering this, Sohyang decided to seek the blessing of the pastor and his wife for marriage. They were initially hesitant due to the short duration of the relationship, but Sohyang was steadfast. Trusting her judgment, they gave their consent. Soon after marriage, Sohyang started experiencing stomach pain. Thinking she might be pregnant, she went to a gynecologist. Instead of expected news of pregnancy, the doctor discovered a cancerous tumor (cervical cancer). If she hadn't been married at 20, she wouldn't have had a reason to see a doctor, and the cancer might have gone undiscovered for a longer period.
