It's interesting that when asked by Nixon why he took to the Bush Ned said that it was the Police persecution of his mother and a policeman dishonoured his sister. Well worth a listen, it is a great insight. It shows that apart from the speech, people just went about their business like we do today!

Great recording. Pity there is not many more of these eyewitness accounts recorded, to verify what actually took place.

i find that mentioning of the policeman's pocket watch to be very interesting i understand ned's family returned it to his family some years after he was hanged

This old guy must be a good example of the original Australian accent, a lot of people think they know how Aussies should sound but we have had so much migration in the last 100 years that has influenced the Aussie accent, I know the guy is 92 so it is not the voice of an average aged person but it's a great insight into how Aussies were in those days. I had a person once who could not understand the word TAP when I said it. I had to repeat it ten times and do that action of turning a tap before the person understood what I was saying, She looked like an Aussie but couldn't understand the word TAP spoken in an Aussie accent.
