Just Benny talking on the beach with his soothing voice and modern look is good enough, but on top of that is his superhuman modern abilities with a great drum sounds.
This guys is awesome. Another drummer friend of mine just turned me on to Benny. I've been into Jazz/Fussion/Progressive Rock for a long time, and this guy really brings alot to the table. He reminds me alot of Thomas Lang meets Dave Weckl. Great talent. He can play many styles and his dynamics are spot on...
I really wasn't sure if I liked this ride from this video.. but I got to play a few different Sand Rides, and each have their own distinct sound. I found my perfect ride. The one I have is a little dryer, darker, and seems cut through sound more than the one in this video. I love it.
They're just perfect for pop/rock. I've been to bennys mastersession and i played his kit. It's kind of funny, but these cymbals seem to be perfect for almost all kinds of styles.
Also, these appear to be more rounder shaped, where the Direct Sound EX29s are more square. And, there appears to be some a thin wire coming out from the headband to each phone, that of which isn't present in the Direct Sound EX29. Hmmm...
I actually played both the 20" and the 22" version and prefer the larger one. It's a slightly lower note. Does anyone have an opinion about the quality control in the manufacture of this cymbal? How consistent is the sound and weight from one to another?
Hummel,Hummel
having sick mics that he does, looks like shure 98ds and a good mixdown, im sure they sound fantastic acoustically too, but the audio is mixed down and mastered
Sounds like the perfect ride... what's the Zildjian equivalent , or what Zildjian can I sand blast and accomplish same? Anyone know the sand rides weight in grams? @ 3:55 cool, tuba players getting work!
Hey, does anyone know what isolation headphones is he using here? I thought they might be Direct Sound's EX29 model, which is gold and black, but I don't know...the gold logo(/writing?) on these here doesn't look like quite like the one on that model.
when he was talking about what he wants from the cymbal i thought it described my slightly old zildjian k 22" dark ride pretty well. but it doesnt sound much like his ride xD
this ride is really suitable for jazz or any music that you play that you just want to hear the notes. because when you play jazz notes on a bright ride, all you hear are just the loud resonance no detail.
These are not Shure, since Benny is endorsed by Beyerdynamic. Looks like an Opus 87 to me, but it is indeed very similar to the Shure 98. Nevertheless, the foundation of a good recorded sound is always a good sound source. I doubt that my uncle's drums, which were tuned ten years ago and never touched again, would sound good with the 98 or the 87... Peace.
ah !!!! 21" k Constantinople medium thin with rivits 21" HHX sabian grove ride Jojo mayer signature ride and i really like this one the sandride Good question for our dreammers

3:45 Benny looks soooo mad there :D Awesome ride, AMAZING drummer!

LOL the guy on the bouy at 4:25 and his reaction. Classic.
Benny this is great
he plays the 18" meinl byzance extra dry crash, pretty cool sound, i love it!
the song at 3:36 is "outtasite" from his new brassband album.
so funky
most musical drummer ever
Da hat sich Benny aber etwas Feines ausgedacht. Dieses Ride vereint so ziemlich alles in einem Becken, wonach ich auch immer suche.
They're just perfect for pop/rock. I've been to bennys mastersession and i played his kit. It's kind of funny, but these cymbals seem to be perfect for almost all kinds of styles.
God damn this is a nice cymbal!
I guess you could say it...
SOUNDS GREAT.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
i really like that cymbal wow!!. i like the sabian groove ride too. that can be crashed also.
Also, these appear to be more rounder shaped, where the Direct Sound EX29s are more square. And, there appears to be some a thin wire coming out from the headband to each phone, that of which isn't present in the Direct Sound EX29. Hmmm...
I love this guy.
That is a fucking sexy sounding Ride cymbal man holy shit, I want it.
I actually played both the 20" and the 22" version and prefer the larger one. It's a slightly lower note. Does anyone have an opinion about the quality control in the manufacture of this cymbal? How consistent is the sound and weight from one to another?
extremely consistent and very durable.
+googlefuckedupyoutube I have the 22'' & absolutely love it along with my band mates, infact, my guitarist said he got chills when he fist heard it.
+donald ferrell Yeah, I got one. Loving it.
wow his ride expectations are just like mine, this man is a genious, they have to be ridable like zildjian k's but crashable like a customs

@ihatecarebears1
the band is called "3ergezimmer" - Benny's fusion trio...
@pearl4166 Benny and I just finished the video shooting for the new "Sand Hat Video". It will be available very shortly....
@ 1:18 Check Benny out, boppin' away! Every piece of gear Benny plays sounds good.
Sounds like the perfect ride... what's the Zildjian equivalent , or what Zildjian can I sand blast and accomplish same?
Anyone know the sand rides weight in grams?
@ 3:55 cool, tuba players getting work!
to all the askers: most of the songs played come from his brass band + his fusion band called "3ergezimmer"
The end just makes me wanna cry.....that aside anyone know what the crash on the left is?
HAHAHA!!! I have no idea what that is so funny... but it is.
Got this cymbal new for 190€... YES!
@pearl4166 Yepp they are a part of his set up already and the are known as Byzance Vintage Sand Hats(14")
@GISSIN Sounds like one of those two, but you can see a tiny bit of it, and it's way too shiny for an extra dry cymbal.
Hey, does anyone know what isolation headphones is he using here? I thought they might be Direct Sound's EX29 model, which is gold and black, but I don't know...the gold logo(/writing?) on these here doesn't look like quite like the one on that model.
Snare ist eine Sonor "Steve Smith" Signature (steel)
@MEINL5674 : It's the bottom side of the "sandride"
good joke at the end bro!!!!!
@drummer77 thats off an amazing album too :-p
@flammaster its really hard to get that sound you know?
are the extract some actual songs or just loops? Cause I fell in love with the last one
Ok. Where could I find that? I can't seem to find it anywhere, unless the CD isn't out yet...
4:26....LOL....the guy standing there.
@littlemanskaterj it isn't a crash! It's a 22 inch extra thin jazz ride which he uses as a crash
I would totally sand blast myself in the morning
i got propa sandblasted last night, got a right hangover
when he was talking about what he wants from the cymbal i thought it described my slightly old zildjian k 22" dark ride pretty well. but it doesnt sound much like his ride xD

@sicjustinmagot It's just french grip, palms facing upward.
Ich könnte ja niemals mit so einem kurzen Kopfhöhrer Kabel spielen. Mich würde das ziehen am Kopf sowas von aufregen ^^
too good to be true....
does anyone know which heads are on the toms in this one?
rico ride!
1:32 damn you boat xD
@HendrixcommaMartin lol, awesome! xD
LOL!!
@Benny's face @2:07

A thought "if it rained cymbals what would you like to have?"
what's the snare drum he is using?
@HendrixcommaMartin
You know pulling the faces make it sound better, right?
sonor drums are pretty wicked
@XxSharkBatexX Cool, thanks.
What's the song he plays at 3:36? Someone help me!
Is that high tom mounted via the cymbal stand?
Which Drum Heads are those?
At 0:30 why does he have his hand upside down? Is that just his thing? Or a technique?
what's the tune called starting at 3:36 ??? :)
