Scrap Metal Storage Under Workbench | Easy DIY

  • My solution to the pile of scrap metal I had under my workbench. It's a lattice structure made of 1/4" round bar welded together. The lattice panels are spaced 12" apart. If I made cubbies with walls then short pieces of material could get pushed to the back and never seen again. This way I can see what material I have and how long it is from the side.

    It is such a good idea to make this an open lattice structure so you can easily see what you have and how long it is. So good!

    This is really smart. I always have a problem cutting off what’s too short to keep. I usually give it to the old guy who comes around the neighborhood scrapping cans and such.

    Hey Tyler, I've just binge watched all your video's and wanted to say thanks for the entertainment. We all 'think' we'd like to go do something like a hobby or new venture but never end up doing anything. Watching young adults like you, Alec Steele and Will Stelter makes me wish Indie more as a youngster, but then the older RUclipsrs like Jimmy Direster, This Old Tony and Jason from Fireball tools makes life a little happier when there is so much S..T going on in the world. Pleeeeeeeeease keep up the good work and I look forward to your next video. Also am wondering what you do for a living as you mentioned becoming a machinist at work!!!!. Best wishes to you.

    i mean... if we are talking about 1" and above solid round stock, i hardly have anything above 12" just because it tends to be rather expensive and the offcuts i can score for cheap are usually shorter wich doesnt really bother me (most of the time you just need a short piece of that anyways). also its good to keep offcuts in a bin. for me i only throw away stuff thats really not usable any further, usually anything smaller than 1". i often end up using those "scraps" for stuff people need, need that lawn mower patched? got you! machine needs a gusset to make a weakpoint stronger - small parts bin will get you there. it can get out of hand a little bit, but so far in like 5 years of dedicated making, i only collected 3-4 bins of metal scraps wich is acceptable.

    Next time use cattle panels Tyler. Like $20 each, similar to what u built, much cheaper and faster. Then just cut to size w/ bolt cutters or grinder etc. We use them when runs of fence are too short to justify stretching wire but dont get enough pressure to justify a gate

    • @jackbarry9469
      @jackbarry9469 3 года назад

      Might be thinner rod than what u used tho, and may have needed to use some metal straps instead of screwing thru the flatbar for mountimg
